Fire Emblem 8 (AS Scaled Against In Game Enemies)
« on: January 10, 2011, 06:26:27 AM »
Notes
1. AS Scaled against In-Game Enemies: Characters will be listed with percentage-based Double Rates. These will be based on endgame enemies, looking back a few chapters (To around Chapter 16)

2. Effective Crit and Skill Rates: I'm throwing in a new potential argument! A lot of times crits are completely useless due to the horror that is the average FE enemies that you face (Worthless generally on the backend of a double, on a counter, on an enemy who has already taken a hit...etc). So as not to make Killer Weapons get a big boost that isn't reflected in game, I've halved effective Crit/Skill rates.

3. Enemy Stats and PC Level: If you don't do any of the sidequests, you'll finish at 20/8 or 9! This where I ended up, and I could the exp differences from NEB, who ended up at the same level. In order to save time, I'm assuming 20/12, meaning PC stats are juiced a little. The PCs not at L12 are Seth (14), Duessel (16), Colm (17, Assassin level only), Joshua (16, Assasin level only), Rennac (16), Marisa (15, Assassin Level Only), L'Arachel (15/12) and Ewan (11).

Flip is that I juiced enemy stats a little, partially because I added a few levels, but more because I was mostly looking at human enemies, who are most of the enemies of the game, and also, tend to suck far less on average due to monsters having some horrible fodder. In terms of enemies, I mostly looked at enemies in the last few humans maps, and scaled them up a little. You're approximately 20/5 in the middle of the last human map.

Enemy Def: 13 (9 in C20, 8.3 Avg in Last Human Map; 7 in Average of that map and 5 before it. This again is juiced a little, but isn't so far off from how damage looks the last time you see human enemies).
Enemy Res: 10 (5 in C20, 4.4 Avg in Last Human Map; 4.2 Average of that map and 5 previous. Same as above, minus that Res definitely averages notably below Def on average.)
Enemy Eva: ~35 (23 Avg in Last Human Map. Better than FE 7!; I assumed that Luck rose 2, and Speed rose 3-4. This is weighted a little more to reflect that you'll have a few enemies that can actually evade. Assuming lower has an effect on the average damage, but it's pretty minimal).
Enemy Hit: ~105 (94 Avg in Last Human Map; Very little variation). Bosses are the 130 range.
Luck: 5 (Not juiced, but crit halving takes care of that!)

4. Extra Inclusions: I tried to throw in relevant triangle evasion (and accuracies when semi relevant). Also, there's an argument for averaging Resistance and Evade for magic status, which I included (I'm of two minds. Making evade, especially on the bad side, matter is good. Making Res matter less is good. But the Res hitting status in game is the stuff that you really don't want to be hit with, and the Evade status is a joke).

5. Averages up Top

Should be noted that Excalibur, the only wind magic spell in the game (animation-wise) doesn't hit weakness on fliers. I'd be a bit skeptical about them being to DL wind magic, as such, then, given that their only weakness that suggests this in-game is a sword.

Maybe.

Could you possibly add the Audulma damage/durability to Joshua?

Regarding Wind, I believe that the Wind Sword is the only wind attack (and technically wind magic!) that the PC fliers can face in game? I can see making the call either way, but there is some justification for the little they face in game, I think?

Does Joshua have a better claim on Eirika's path? Just wondering since on Ephraim's, Tana's claim blows his out of the water, to say nothing of Innes or even Artur.

Most of the Joshua plot occurs on Eirika's path, since she actually goes to Jehenna.

Excalibur is clearly a wind spell! And clearly doesn't hit weakness on fliers. I suppose to -prove- it doesn't hit weakness on PC fliers you'd need to get a mage carrying it to be hit by Berserk. Or see it occur in the link arena. Regardless, since PCs are so clearly mechanically equivalent to enemies in FE I'd certainly take its effect on enemy fliers literally, and I'm far more inclined to regard the Wind Blade as a special property. IIRC you only face one enemy with the Wind Blade in the game anyway... and zero on Eph's route.

FE6/9/10 is another matter, of course, since all those games have wind spells that do hit weakness on fliers which they actually have to watch out for in-game (although in FE9-10 the weakness is pretty laughable due to wind spells sucking and all fliers weak to wind having high res, respectively).

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

Right, does look like there might only be one. You could limit it to Wind Physical (Rare) or Wind Psuedomagic (1 person in the DL who may have that!). The enemy comparison doesn't feel right to be as establishing a basis for how things work on PCs the same way it didn't feel right to me to determine AS effectiveness not basing it on enemies. If so, mechanically FE PCs generally feel the same and they dummied out the air magic that fit fliers for more! Certainly enough proof to make it arguable, and certainly not enough to make it certain.

On Eirika's path Joshua's mom explicitly talks about giving him Audhulma in the dialogue, then it and Excalibur are placed in his inventory by default, rather than the lord's like with all the other legendary weapons. This makes his claim somewhat stronger than other peoples' plot claims to Sacred Twins, depending on what factors you consider for plot claims.

Similar to the FE 7 topic, I updated this topic to put more weight on boss AS and hit. This mattered for hit a bit, but was less relevant for AS since at least FE 7 has at 3.5ish high AS bosses.
