RPGDL 2012 Season 2 Noms!

2. Any character from those games is a valid nom.  If folks object to a particular nom due to memorability/unstable interpretation, please mention it in thread.
3. Please nom up to 5 characters per division (Godlike, Heavy, Middle, Light).
4. Please nom the same number of characters in each division.
5. If you are uncertain where to nom a particular character, please ask in thread/in chat.

* Random: Pretty sure Mia should be in Heavy now.  I tried to nominate her for Middle for one of CK's tournies awhile back before I played FE10 and was told she was a Heavy there, and I'm definitely inclined to agree having played through FE10.

* CK: Yangus is awesome and I approve of the pick, but Yangus champed NR Light pretty easily IIRC and was ranked as a Middle in the DL.  He's not a good Middle, but two 50% match-deciding status options that simultaneously deal damage + okay durability -> Light is in trouble, since Light pretty well lacks characters that can just 2HKO him first and generally isn't as good on status immunity either.  He's not winning any slugfests in Middle, but that's not his game anyway.

I'm not sure Mia is a Heavy with FE10, given that she has typical FE SM durability with less awesome evasion than the GBA SMs, and like typical FE SMs, she doesn't 2HKO average.  Furthermore, looking at the FE9 stat topic there's not a whole lot that indicates that her FE10 form is better enough to kick her up a division upwards, the main difference being that she's more durable which probably isn't enough by itself to be worth that shift.

I tend to think that, knowing Astra is Skill/2 rather than Skill, Mia lacks the offensive punch to tackle heavy.  What put SMs over the top in most FE games is the crit rate and in particular Killing Edges, but those tank your damage in FE10 much harder.  It didn't matter when she had a 40% occult proc, but at 20%... a great Middle, but not really a Heavy, is my gut.

Or I could be wrong and she'll maul this pool!  I can live with that.

We always knew this, actually. (i.e. It was always tagged correctly on Serenes Forest, it was Stun/Colossus/a few others that weren't.) It's mostly that she has ~15 crit post-enemy-luck to go with her Astra rate which pushes it to decent levels.

Anyway I'd have to think about it, but unlike in FE9, Mia has some pretty beastly stats in FE10; a swordmaster with above average damage before crits/skills are even considered is pretty cool. Heavy is definitely my kneejerk offhand.

And as someone who calculated how those "beastly stats" look in comparison to others under a reasonable set of interpretations I can say that they don't make a whole lot of difference in comparison, at least not under that set.  The damage improvement is marginal, evasion and relative accuracy are roughly the same, mdef is still 2HKO'd by average, she possible crits *less* often than her FE9 form due to facing a much relatively higher luck average... the biggest improvement is to her physical durability and it's still below average and changes... not a whole lot that I can think of, since the accuracy was never crash hot enough that she could be considered notably accurate and that given the activation rate, I doubt Astra is that notable.  Not really feeling the Heavy hype, sorry.

More to the point, that the issue is apparently contentious certainly inclines me more to nominate her for the lower of the two divisions rather than the higher one.  As CK said the worst case is whoops she champs Middle and we get to find out how well she does in Heavy next time or something.

If she doubles average with decent leeway to double some above average speed people and each swing is above average damage all by itself, that's Heavy. Pretty much a Raven clause of sorts.

Except both recollection and evidence that I can actually find place Raven in Middle, which rather seems to fit given that despite the impressive damage there he has something like half average RES and is average turn speed and generally losing tiebreaks thanks to being a foot unit.  If having average damage and doubling were all it took to make Heavy I'd likely suspect there would be a good deal more FE people there and I have seen nothing to suggest that it *is* all it takes.  Because evadeable physicals with only modest evasion going for you is such a great way to endear me to Heavy hype.

Raven was -sorely underranked in Middle- and either got massively spoiled (Balk, whom he fails to double -and- has to deal with Def Up while being 2HKOed with ITE magical damage!) or beaten by other Heavies-ranked-in-Middle when he got in. The type makes a subpar Heavy? Sure, can agree to that. But 80% PC HP against 110% average speed and below -that also triggers as melee counters- is kind of a ruthless strategy against a lot of people (for starters, spoils a lot of frailish dude/ttes who are otherwise vicious, like, say, Rydia, Rosa and Hect. Ask VP2 Alicia, who was a Heavy -champion- before, how she feels about him as well - or Freyjadour, who, unlike the former people, is actually -durable- and even hits Raven's horrible mdef and yet likely loses anyway. Not to mention other melee fighters in Heavy need to be -really- bulky to handle him as well). Raven -did- get Heavy hype later in the DL life to boot, and I remember that due to -actually jumping into that hype- myself. Spammable high 2HKO against a lot of people that also works to spoil melee types isn't winning Heavy championships, but is dangerously close to auto-winning in Middle. EDIT: I mean, I guess the typical FE physical slugger powerhouse collective gets soloed by Kimahri, but what can ya do. >_> Eirika weeps bitter tears.

Also, people sporting a -worse- combo than Raven managed to upgrade to Heavy -or- be ranked Heavy. >_> Hector is certainly a worse dueller than Raven and yet, there he is. Guy risks being worse than Raven as well, and yet see his division. And remember, Guy upgraded from Middle!

Raven doesn't double average with much room to spare, which is the main thing which keeps him from Heavy to me. Mia is basically Raven trading HP for a bit of evade and the guarantee to double pretty much everything. I think that's a winning trade and probably lands her in Heavy (where Guy and Joshua are, who are similar to her overall; less damage but more evade and crit if they go for that). But all three are pretty bad in the division and can probably be played as Middles if people really want.
