Eminem, Royce da 5'9", Big Sean, Danny Brown, Dej Loaf, Trick Trick - wowwwwwww there is so much good in this track. I think I really dig everyone's burt by Big Sean's? His is good, but the others really kill it. Probably the best Eminem collaboration I have heard in years? Gooood stuff.
Christina Perri - This is very very clean. I am in no way opposed to it, this is honestly the kind of track that I don't mind in the middle of an album. I don't know if it is what I would pick as a single on an album I like (And I would certainly not really be interested in an album full of it), but as a an individual track? I have nothing wrong with this kind of thing in your repertoire. She is pretty good, I was worried she would kill it with over singing after the 1 minute mark, but she mostly exercises self restraint (it is a very simple and basic instrumental component to the track, not the time to practice your scales mid note). So plenty of respect for the track. I don't think it stands out as best track of the week (so far), but I also think it is likely a contender just on the back of being overall pretty solid.
Dev - I think I should like this more than I do. I theoretically like most of the components that make this up and something just isn't clicking. I honestly suspect it is just that I haven't been sleeping well this week and am worn out with a headache so the fast cuts and stuff in the film clip is making me kind of queasy. This is probably a good choice if you have a lot to say about it?
Flyleaf - Alright so this is my favourite this week. It isn't good honestly, it just pushes my buttons a lot in the right ways. Like the opposite buttons to what I expect Dev to do as well. Where Dev is aggressively trying to grate a bit with choices of instrumentation and keeping it as minimal as possible to push a strong female vocalist voice with a music video that is big attention drawing. This is the opposite. It is pretty much a straight port of 90s pop-rock. All guitar riffs and simple chord progressions repeated infinitely to sing a simple pop song. A REALLY good lyric video doesn't hurt. I dig the style and its simplicity both as a song and as a clip. There isn't an awful lot to recommend it other than it plays to pretty solid nostalgic bases to me though. It is a GOOD piece in that style, but it isn't particularly interesting for it.
Halestorm - Do a pretty good rock song as well. This is probably more technically proficient (for what that counts for in stock rock music?), but plays less to my personal tastes. It is good, but it should be no secret by now that I prefer tracks that have a narrative of broken people, desperation and melodrama, so yeah I kind of prefer Flyleaf's track to this.
Ooookay, so my personal favourite is Fly Leaf, the best track I think is the rap collaboration (First run through I was going to say I really dug it on the strength of Roye and Danny Brown's parts, but Eminem just fucking tears shit up so much as well. Completely out of left field to me.) That said I could also totally see picking Dev, Halestorm and Christina Perri so.... I am not sure how much help I am this time.
