Writeup Graveyard / Quina (vs. Worker 8)
« on: April 15, 2009, 08:29:07 PM »
Quina come back to take title! Over 20 seasons? Too long without fight for great mage like Quina, although time well spent finding yummies. Unfortunately for Quina, his Blue Magic no useful in this fight, as opponent immune to any and all magic. Of course, Quina still use magic on himself, giving extra support, and can also heal same amount as health with White Wind, which useful against enemy unable to heal at all! If s/he uses those skills to support physical attacks, above-average evasion and average defence and HP, s/he is started on long road to victory in championship, upgrade to Godlike and lifetime supply of frogs.

MAIN TOURNAMENT
Battlefield - The First Campaign (Etrian Odyssey 2) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos) - Battlefield's good, especially for EO music (which is generally meh), but it's against the most memorable song from a good soundtrack.
Water Prison (Ys Origin) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core) - With the others on this - it's a good match, won't mind either way. Leaning Price of Freedom, though.
True (Silent Hill 2) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3) - Don't like Letter at all. =/
Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia) - Yeah, it wasn't gonna happen. Stigmata's winning this pool for me, methinks.

The Bird Chirps, I Sing (Tales of Legendia) vs. Over the Wind (Wild ARMs 4) - Tch, nothing special in either, Bird Chirps is marginally better.
Godsibb (Xenosaga 3) vs. Idola the Strange Fruits (Phantasy Star Online Episode 3) - See, I think I prefer the Fanatic Viper. Still, Idola wins this match regardless.
Kimi no Kioku (Persona 3) vs. Battle Hymn of the Soul/Battle for Everyone's Souls (Persona 3) - Hmm, both are good, Kimi no Kioku is better.
Radical Dreamers - Without Taking the Jewel (Chrono Cross) vs. Twilight of the Anti-Hero (Wild ARMs XF) - Meh. Going with the one that's more my style, neither's particularly good.

FAILURE BRACKET
Hurry, Hurry! (Final Fantasy V) vs. Slam Shuffle (Final Fantasy VI) - Hurry's not bad, but I can see how it can be seen as such. Slam Shuffle... I still like. So yeah, like most of the failure bracket matches so far, I guess...

ANIME
Ana (Clannad) vs. Mezame (Mai Hime) - Mezame is more my style, but this is still an easy decision. Ana is a beautiful song, whereas Mezame is on par with and similar to average-DDS-music.
Rinne no Hate Ni (Tsukihime) vs. Jounetsu (Tokyo Underground) - Tough match. Both are brilliant, going with the one that's more my style.

Isn't that just one of the scenes from the manga? Unless I'm missing something by not seeing the full pic, it looks like something that happened a few chapters ago...

Discussion / Re: How happy are you?
« on: April 15, 2009, 12:53:27 AM »
When I try to look at my life objectively, I tend to get depressed. When I just let it be, I end up keeping an oddly positive outlook.

This works for me, too. I've been thinking a lot more lately, and hence have been more annoyed lately. Generally speaking, I'm pretty cynical but optimistic - I always think the worst of things, but I always think things are gonna get better.
I voted "Slightly unhappy" on the basis that, while I tend to ignore problems sometimes and not others (which, to me, would be neutral), my life has become a lot worse from how it used to be in a number of ways - relationship, education, friendships, looks, etc. - and so I'm looking at things as they are as negative solely through comparison.

Yeah, I did get pissed off by that, but then after the first death (Dark Bahamut, so the Caladbolg thing, yeah), I figured it was best to just save at every freaking opportunity. Eventually, I'd found most of them - hadn't found Yojimbo or Shiva, but I could guess where they were pretty easily, so all was fine after that.

Beating them, on the other hand, is still a bitch.

FFX - Yay for being in Europe and thus having the Dark Aeons and Penance to fight. Means I can get the shit kicked out of me in seconds despite having almost all stats maxed.
Dark Yojimbo Ambushed with Wazikashi. Thankfully, Auron had First Strike, and Auto-Life-d Yuna, who then Auto-Lifed herself again. She then got hit by Daigoro - instant petrification and shatter in one. Game Over in two enemy turns! Great! Time to go back to maxing stats completely...

Daft Punk - Vietnam

Ehh, not one of their best, but it'll do.

Ah, point - I can only take care of Edgar's if he's in Heavy. Forgot to mention that. ^^'

Edgar, Quina.

Also, Slash in Middle -should- be changed to Slash/Blaziken, although doubt it's necessary.
And the Light "who nommed who" is missing.

Oh, haha, awesome. <3

MAIN TOURNAMENT
Stickerbrush Symphony (Donkey Kong Country) vs. The Merciless Savior (Legend of Heroes VI) - Yeah, this was close for the first minute or so of Merciless Savior. And then it picks up.
Enemy Attack (Tales of Legendia) vs. One Final Effort (Halo 3) - Both were good, but Enemy Attack kept my attention for longer.
Alice (Shadow Hearts) vs. Nefertiti (Mana Khemia) - Slaughter much? Alice takes too long to get to being average, whereas Nefertiti takes about 10 seconds to get to being pure awesome.
Feel a Fear (Guilty Gear XX) vs. The Road to Tomorrow Follows Behind You (Wild ARMs 5) - Ooh, ouch. This is a close match. Feel a Fear is more my style, but is too synthy at times. So synth, in fact, that it's losing this match.

The Stage is Set (Final Fantasy VIII) vs. Primal Eyes (Parasite Eve) - Ehh, a tough one for me. Primal Eyes bothers me for some reason. It sounds like some hybrid of KH2 & FFXII, and neither of those have memorable music for a good reason. Stage is Set is less my style, but does it better, so I'm going with that.
Time of the Dreamwatch (Chrono Cross) vs. Sunlight Filtering through the Trees (Tales of Legendia) - Hmm. Both of these are decent, neither is great. I'm gonna go with Dreamwatch for being somewhat more active.
Howl of the Departed (Lost Odyssey) vs. At the Frozen Depths of the Heart (Wild ARMs 5) - UGH. THAT INTRO. What was Uematsu thinking? Part of this seems familiar - oh, it's part of Dancing Mad, but with added singing. That said, I like Dancing Mad. But the played-backwards chanting at the end? Pfft. Frozen Depths does nothing for ages, but it's still won this one.
Battle on the Big Bridge (Final Fantasy V) vs. Under the Stars (Final Fantasy Tactics) - Stars is a little plain, but nice. BotBB is definitely good, but... I just prefer Stars.

FAILURE BRACKET
Hydlide (Hydlide) vs. Honeybee Manor (Final Fantasy VII) - I sorta like Hydlide... Honeybee Manor does get tolerable, but that damn noise runs throughout the whole damn song and gets REALLY ANNOYING.

ANIME
Canta Per Me (Noir) vs. Rise (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig) - Uhh, I think. Might re-listen, but probably going with this.
Bring all the Wisdom to Britain! (Read or Die OVA) vs. Hanabi (Bleach) - Took a few listens to decide, but definitely this one.

1911
Any chance of having it downloadable still? At least for the pools where there were no downloads in Round 1.

Maximum the Hormone - Kyoukatsu

(Changed while I was typing to...)

The Black Mages - Hunter's Chance

Ah. A perfect example of a song that was completely ignored on the original playthrough, yet TBM did brilliantly. <3

Chaotic Dance (Baten Kaitos)

Not voting but just had to ask - anyone know what the lyrics are actually saying? All I can tell is that the first part sounds like "Why won't you win?" and then, near the end, I swear it starts saying "Feeling ga~ay" over and over...

FFVII HDINS - Gi Nattak down! Practically owned Jenova, owned Dyne (Right Arm lolz!), nearly got owned by Stinger #1, owned Stinger #2, Phoenix Down-ed Gi Nattak. On to Nibelheim!
(I've gone into more detail on my blog, so I'll spare the needless rambling for people who don't care.)

See, when I did that, Alicia had about 5k and Gungnir did about 1-2k. By the end of the fight, Alicia & Phyress were the only ones alive, and Phyress had been revived a couple of times. =/

Ah, well. Good to know for future reference, I guess.

topic: FFVII HDINS - I should really stop pausing. I've been at the end of the Bottomswell fight for the last 3 hours. (But I'm 10 minutes ahead of my previous run!)

...Are you kidding me? I went through that whole fight without attacking Lezard once. I just dodged the entire time and attacked the crystal when I could.

Ehh, I personally quite like the Bleach manga. It tends to just be one or two chapters on an individual character & their developments (two only for the most important ones - such as Urahara, when he's introduced) and then switch to someone else. The anime... I'd probably hate the fillers. And Bleach's obsessive fans still annoy the living crap out of me. >_>

FFVII - Half Day/No Saves - Still. The same one I started around this time yesterday - I've left it on pause most of the time, so my in-game clock is actually barely over 2 hours. I should play more and pause less.
Still, 2 hours 3 minutes and I'm starting the Hundred Gunner fight. That's pretty damn good by my reckoning.

1921
Alright then, I'll go for this:

 - Cloud (4)
 - Edgar (3)
 - Yuna (3.5)
 - Ditto (w/o Speed Powder) (Speed?) (0.5)

FFVII - HDINS challenge again. Except I got distracted trying to create a team for Nyar's Dungeon and left it on pause for about 7 hours. 7 hours since I started, I've probably got about 20-30 minutes play-time, and I'm approaching Airbuster. After 7 hours. >_>

Yeah, they do. They're still good due to awesome level, but... nowhere near as good as they should be.

Alright, I'm considering making a team for this... It'd probably be bloody awful, but that's what you get with a first try.
Before that, though...

Firstly, any chance of the Wiki/first post being edited? I'm guessing the Wiki's right, in which case, could the character list from the first post go? Not a big deal, but a little confusing.
Secondly, Sealstones being added to the Wiki?
And lastly, a couple of questions on the Speed? sealstone... Just to clarify, that description means that, if a character would normally move last, they now move first and vice-versa, right?
Also, is that every fight or floor? (Assuming fight, but best to make sure.)

Edit: Another question... Love Love Sealstone - how does that work on Pokemon? Does the player choose a gender for the Pokemon that have genders? What about ones that don't?

Edits again: Okay, I'll just give away what I was thinking and ask - is it possible to have Ditto without the Speed Powder?

Edit: (I'll stop this eventually, honest.) Just to make sure I understand Cloud right... Is it each floor, you master the previous Materia AND get a new one? Or is it OR get a new one?
