Initial load!

75 GB External HD.
Raising Arizona. A movie I never heard of before! But it has Nicolas Cage so it must be hilariously bad.
Persona 4 + Artbook. I already own this so I'll probably give it to a friend who I've been hyping it to.
The Graveyard Book. Neil Gaiman's new novel<3.
The Neil Gaiman Audio Collection.
Prince of Stories - The Many Worlds of Neil Gaiman.
Four books about applying to university. Or college as you crazy people call it.
Three books about taking a year off to travel.
The Really Useful Ultimate Student Cook Book.
$100 Gift Card for BlueNotes. It's a clothing store.
$100 Gift Card to Indigo/Chapters/Coles. (Book stores)
$50
Various snacks.

And apparently one of my many lost GBA games finally turned up. Mario Kart Super Circuit, woo.

From the aunt, uncles, and grandparents.

$150 of Gift Cards for Best Buy.
$50 Gift Card for BlueNotes.
$25 Gift Card for The Bay.
A pair of quartz book ends.

Some stuff is still in the States, and this isn't counting anything I might receive from my father's side (though I might not get anything from them at all).

Not Ranked Discussion / Jessica (vs. Terada)
« on: December 16, 2008, 05:24:24 PM »
It's Jessica's premiere appearance in NR, and she is set to win it in style. Terada isn't in his mech, so Jessica can pound away at him with her oddly powerful basic physicals. This leaves her with a ton of SP to use on her timed healing cards. Terada may have damage, but it will do him little good with his inability to heal-lock Jess. Even ignoring all of these, Jessica has the ability to synthesize items in the middle of battle. These items have more than double the damage of her other skills, and will make quick work of even a fairly durable fighter like Terada. It's going to be a quick and simple match, and Jess will come out of it with an extra test subject for her latest potions.

That second video is what got me into the MMBN series (and Mega Man as a whole, really)

Writeup Graveyard / Healie vs. Goofy (Both)
« on: November 30, 2008, 03:55:21 PM »
Healie's opponent this week is a physical fighter without much else. This is fortunate, as Healie has had a lot of practice sparring with Ragnar while on their quest. He knows what to expect from this battle, and how to deal with it. By healing, and healing often. All Healie needs to do to win this fight is avoid being heal-locked or running out of MP. A tough feat to be sure, but one made easier by his incredible agility. This battle between titans will be hard, but he's sure to pull it off in the end.

Goofy may not be the brightest of chaps, but he doesn't need to be to see how this one is going to turn out. Healie may have healing, but with his below average durability he won't be getting any chances to attack between heals. If he somehow does? Having damage below 1/15th of average means that whatever he does get off will be insignificant. Then when you add on how Goofy's damage increases when he is in critical health, it becomes clear just how one sided this duel is. One would expect nothing less from an Olympus Coliseum veteran.

www.nanowrimo.org/

Anyone planning on doing this?

I have actually had an idea in my head for well over half a year now, but I am not sure if I should do it. The pro to doing it is not having time to pull my usual perfectionist crap that stops my writing projects from ever getting off the ground. The thing that is giving me pause is my complete lack of talent.

I figure that most people here generally have more talent than the average person, so it could not hurt to ask. Is anyone here thinking of writing something? Have you already done so in the past? If so I would love to hear about it and I am sure others would as well.

(If this has already been discussed before on the old forums, I apologize. There is no way for me to check, so.)

AP is used on the Grow Book. You gain access to it after... the first job? Early on, though it probably would have made sense for them to give it to you from the start.

Also, no storebought equips. You wouldn't really want them anyway, with how the Grow Book works. The game explains it well enough. Just again, later than is logical.

RPGDL Discussion / Re: Season 47 Nomination pools
« on: October 18, 2008, 08:05:02 PM »
csh, you're going to need to make Middle and Light pools(and have the same number of characters in all four pools) if you want your noms to count. It would be a mighty shame if Cloud or Sephiroth missed out because you forgot the nomination rules!

They seem happy to allow perfect skill inheritance, so I don't see why not.

P3 Aigis - High middle.
P3 Akihiko Sanada - High middle.
P3 Chidori Yoshino - Light.
P3 Jin Shirato - Heavy.
P3 Junpei Iori - Low middle.
P3 Ken Amada - High middle.
P3 Koromaru - Middle.
P3 Mitsuru Kirijo - High middle.
P3 Shinjiro Aragaki - Low heavy.
P3 Takaya Sakaki - Heavy.
P3 Yukari Takeba - High light.

Godlike: Sephiroth(FF7), Ultimecia(FF8), Tidus(FFX), Ted(S4), Johnny Garland(SH3), Lambda Zellweger(WA4)
Heavy: Joshua(FE8), Reno(FF7), Wakka(FFX), Nicholai Conrad(SH2), Clive Winslett(WA3), Jr.(XS)
Middle: Axel(Disgaea2), Mitsuru Kirijo(P3), Eliwood(FE7), Shion Uzuki(XS), Anastasia Romanov(SH2), Jeane(Suikos)
Light: Rozalin(Disgaea2), Edward Damcyan(FF4), Yukari Takeba(P3), Arietta(TotA), Melody Vilente(WA3), Jin Uzuki(XS2)

If either of Mitsuru and Yukari didn't end up in the division I put them in(Pretty sure they both did) then replace them with Akihiko and Chidori respectively.

I would like to second that sentiment. Lot of stuff there I'm interested in looking at.

Speed Demos Archive pretty regularly includes Tool-assisted Speedruns of many sidescrollers/platformers

Wait, what? Do you have a link of a specific example? I'm pretty sure everything has to be played normally on whatever console the game is for. No emulators or anything are allowed.

Writeup Graveyard / Leblanc (vs. Chansey)
« on: October 13, 2008, 04:01:52 AM »
They say that the third time is the charm. Unfortunately, this wasn't exactly true in Leblanc's case, but losing three times in a row has to have made it that much more likely that she will win the fourth one, right? Well, that's certainly what she would have you believe. Looking at her opponent, it seems it isn't too far from the truth either. Leblanc's Regen can easily deal with the pitiful offense her opponent has to offer, while her ITD damage and negative status should be more than enough to break through Chansey's defensive game. Even if it isn't, Leblanc can always just run her foe out of PP and then pound the now-crippled Pokemon into the ground for her first NR win. It's a shame this fight is going to be so easy, really; Noojie-Woojie won't be giving away any massages for wins as trivial as this.

RPGDL Discussion / Re: Season 46 rankings: Making the final cut.

I thought that almost nobody had actually played The Answer. At least, that is the impression I was given in chat a while back. (Something about "P3 with all of the good parts taken out") As such, if there is votesplit, it should only be with a very few people, and some of them will probably vote based on her ranked form anyway. Probably less of one than CoD, really.

Persona 3

Yes
Yes
No to Minato and Metis. Minato because of Bluelike(He is only high Godlike for me, but apparently others give him access to both skill inheritance and personas above endgame levels, so). Metis because of lower playership. Maybe a FW depending on how P3 ends up doing. Yes to other PCs, Strega, Nyx.

Cloud of Darkness

No
Yes

Finished Mana Khemia. Not seeing where all of the hype comes from. Yes, it is good fun but that is typical of Gust games(Haven't played At, which seems to get some hate). The gameplay is good, but the pacing and other aspects of the story bring the game below AI2. Probably a 7/10 for me.

Speaking of Gust games! Putting AI1 in the PS2 immediately after I post this. Hooray.

Also, *Spoilers for WA3/TotA/MK*

This is the third game in a row where one of the PCs was artificially created. Just found that interesting since I can't remember any other RPGs I've played where it happened. <<

Eh, I didn't really consider that. I suppose Dist not being ranked makes more sense then, even though the mechs are very uniquely Dist and he designed them himself. (Unlike Reno) But yeah, guess I can see it even though I don't particularly mind it myself. Still disagree on Mohs though.

Beat TotA and WA3.

TotA was pretty enjoyable, though the World Map was pretty lame and skits really needed voice acting. Mohs and Dist not being ranked confuses me because they both have precedent in the form of Augst and Tony in WA4. Their circumstances are pretty much identical in both cases, so I can't really see any justification for it at all.

WA3 was also fun, though the lack of direction starting when Maya was kidnapped brings it down. The final boss was really lame as well. If I'm fighting a boss with 10+ form chains, I want it to be a badass incarnation of death with metal and a choir playing in the background, not a bunch of tadpoles and alligators. The first form having no offense made it ridiculously easy thanks to Permanence, and it was just a generally boring fight all around. Also on the note of WA3 difficulty - I probably fought less than ten random encounters overall after Virginia got her second crest, and none at all after she got her third. The game is amazing about how easy it is to avoid combat. I also only found myself using about ten of the tier two berries throughout the game. Never used a Mega Berry or either of the Carrots. It's possible that I've just become used to always being underleveled and underprepared so I'm better able to compensate for it. <<

Also bought a ton of games today! Only one of which is ranked, and that one just had a DS version(Which I'm in the middle of playing) come out anyway. Lots of super fanservice here though.

Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra (PS2)
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana (PS2)
Metal Saga (PS2)
Front Mission 4 (PS2)
Odin Sphere (PS2)
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (PS2)
