I like him better in the closet.  It... it makes getting into bed with him less creepy.

So, it's a week until school resumes so people are moving back into the dorms.  Including my friend who owns Super Paper Mario.

Beaten.  The epitome of a game that started out promising and then just ended up pissing me off.  It was soooooooooo obvious that they were trying to extend the amount of time you were playing the game.  Here's a list of things the game made you do:

Chapter 2-3: You spend about five minutes jumping in place.  Bribe a guy, get a code, spend 15-20 minutes running in place.  Get a code, find a Pixl, end level.  Yeah, that's all the level is.

This wasn't too bad; the next two worlds were awesome (particularly World 3, the Geek dimension), funny, and *GASP* had well designed levels.

Then we get to 5-1.  Here's all it is:  You land in a world populated by Bro cavemen ("Hook us up, brah!").  After agreeing them to help fight some flowers, you follow this band of flowers to a dead end.  You go back to the first spot, get the code, and then return until you hit another dead end.  Here's where it gets lame.  You go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way back to the beginning of the level (which is a long, uneventful journey), and talk to one of the Bromagnon men.  He tells you the code, but only after you type "please" into the name entry screen 5 times.  Ugh.  If you accidentally type "Please," it won't accept it.  Ugh.  Then, the code that you get is 20 entries long. "Hit the right block, then the middle, then the left... then left right middle right middle left left right left left left..." etc.  That's the end of the level.  So pissed off at this point...

But not enough to give up and quit playing, because they made up for it by the rest of World 5 being good.

Then we get to Chapter 7-2.  Here, you climb up a decently long level in the dark.  After you get to a certain point, you need a key.  You talk to an NPC who has the key, and... get transported back to the beginning of the level!  You have to do it again!  Fuck off!

7-3: Another climbing level.  About halfway through, you need to find one of 5 different apples and give it to someone.  The game doesn't tell you which one you need, though, so you could either go all the way back to the beginning, get every single one and try them all out, OR you could not be a thicky and check a FAQ.  Fortunately, the apple you need is a little bit ahead but not too far.  Anyway, once you get to the end of the level, you meet someone else who needs an apple, and once again the game does not tell you which one.  Now, fortunately for me I had checked the FAQ and discovered this before I had to go back and hunt for that fucking red apple, but potentially this already decently long stage could have needed to be repeated twice if you didn't have outside help.  This is just bad game design.

Then you're at the end, which luckily doesn't have any of this bullshit, but on the flipside has the Tower of Salvation / FF4 syndrome.  Ugh.  The final boss was amazing (because of who it was), but the ending was generic RPG tripe "yay power of luv" and not particularly funny tripe at that.

Huh, but something feels missing.  It's like I'm forgetting something...

Oh!  Yes! Sidequests.  See, there are two Pits of 100 Trials in this Paper Mario.  One of them is awesome in how early you can do it and what the reward is, and the other is the worst offender of the game trying to extend how long you play it.  See, once you get to the end of THIS one, you come to the boss room... and he tells you to do it again!  No reward!  So this hour-and-a-half long endeavor... you have to do twice.  After the second time, you fight a stupidly easy boss and earn your reward... CARDS.  CARDS.  MOTHERFUCKING CARDS.  WHAT THE HELL.  I SPEND 3 FUCKING HOURS DOING THIS WASTE OF TIME AND YOU DON'T REWARD ME WITH A PIXL OR SOMETHING USEFUL, BUT WITH WORTHLESS CARDS.  UP YOURS.

Now, in fairness, you do get one more reward for doing that, but it's stupid.  Your gauge that drains when you go into 3D no longer drains.  Sounds useful, right, since you'll basically never take damage again, but keep in mind that when that bar drained, you would lose one HP and the bar would refill again.  By the end of the game I had 75 HP, so this hardly mattered.

All in all, this entry into the Paper Mario universe is probably the worst of them, easily, and I haven't played PM1.  It started out funny, but then just kinda gave up on the pretense of being a good platformer/RPG.  It had moments of sheer brilliance (3-4), but for the most part sucked.  It doesn't help that it was pretty clear that the developers weren't trying with the game; not that one should judge things based on game art, but come on, most of it could have been done in MS Paint.  The concepts for the power ups were lame (one was simply taken directly from NSMB, the rest were beyond useless), the Pixls were cool at first, but then it became a pain to switch between them (take note, L/R buttons for power switching is a great idea. Too bad the way SPM makes you play means that there are no shoulder buttons)...

All and all, if you liked Paper Mario or Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, skip SPM.  Or Rent it, get to chapter 3, then give up.  If you're a thickheaded numbskull who loves repetitiveness in their games, you're probably too busy playing Fire Emblem to have noticed the game anyway.

That quiz is fun.  I got through it a while back.  110 isn't a big fuck you.  108 is.  109's hardly better.

Engineer's only really bored me in 2Fort.  But a lot of things about 2Fort bore me.  He's pretty fun to play in Well and... fuck, I forget which map it is; the Territory control map with the huge chokepoint at the end.  Maybe Well.  Fuck, I don't know.  Anyway, the point is, I've gotten action with him but I still hate playing him.

TF2:  God I've done nothing but play this game.  I think I may have a problem.

Sigh.  Anyway, classes.

Scout:  Getting better.  I'm not twitchy enough to do well, but I've gotten a lot better at capturing intelligence with him.

Soldier:  Hate this class.  I blow myself up too often because I forget he has the shotgun.  Rocket Jumping is cool, but I can't really ever make use of it because I have to think about it for too long and then I die.

Pyro:  Now this is a fun class.  Hide behind corners, light people on fire?  Simplistic, yeah, but fuck you.  Now I just need to learn how to not die so easily (goes for all classes, but Pyro in particular) and I might be able to get my stats up there.

Demoman:  Probably the class I'm best with.  Stickybombs have way more range than I thought, and I've finally figured out how much.  Really good at defending with him.  Only issue is that his default attack is incredibly hard to aim.  Getting the hang of it, but for fucks sakes sometimes I just wish the Black Scottish Cyclops had a shotgun or something.  Beating things with a booze bottle>rest of the melee attacks for concept.  Except maybe the shovel.

Heavy:  Boring.  Also doesn't help that I can't gauge when to run out and tank and when I should stop firing and fall back.

Engineer:  Uh.  Despite conceptually being the class I was orgasming over when I was watching the previews, I really hate playing this class.  Probably because everybody else always plays him and 6 Engineers is just fucking stupid.

MEDIC! MEEEEDIC!:  Fun.  I suck with him, but really that can be said for all characters sans maaaaaaaaaaybe Demoman.  Need to get more accurate with Melee weapons and learn just how far my targets can go before I have to follow them around the corner.  Probably third favorite class to play, though.

Sniper:  Fuck this class.  Fuck Snipers.  I hates them.  More seriously, I suck at leading shots, I suck at aiming, I suck at not getting hit by other snipers, I suck at not getting spied, I suck at not getting Demomaned, I suck at not getting Scouted, and fuck, I was once even killed by a fucking Engineer from behind with his fucking Melee weapon because I wasn't paying attention.  Fuck. This. Class.

Spy:  I want to be good with spy.  He reminds me a lot of the heroes I like to play in Footmen Frenzy/Warcraft 3: Jaood, Assassin, Blademaster.  People who cloak, sneak around, then kill people when they're not paying attention.  However, it just doesn't work out in practice.  Everyone's always shooting their teammates to check for spies, so disguise isn't exactly safe, and you can't attack from cloaked position, and it takes a second to decloak.  Yet, somehow, people have been good with him.  I have the deaths to prove it.  I must find out how it's done.  Anyway, like scout, I've at least done well in capturing intelligence and points with him.

Tsk.  Not only have I been playing this when I can but the first thing I do when I wake up is write about it.  This does not bode well once classes resume.

In any case, before I go, I do think it's a bit strange that Ciato and Quietrain simply took me at my word that I was silenced, but I'm not sure if that's poor scum acting or just townies not being overly meticulous.  Good Dhyer.

Heheh.  Okay, here's the skinny.

Sorry, town.  I'm just... maybe burned out, maybe simply apathetic, to play this game seriously, so I've been f-cking around the entire time. I almost asked OK to get a replacement, but apathy isn't exactly the best reason.

##Vote: Zenthor

Let's go ahead and get me out of here so you people can actually play.

Well.  That was unexpected.  Very good for Camelot, but unexpected.

Now.  Let's see, the people who did vote for Brave Sir Robin need to be looked at... maybe.  If it were that simple, the scum would really suck at this game.

I'm frankly more concerned about the people who voted for Otter.  What better way to try to distance yourself from scumbuddies than to vote for them?  I'm not sure who's more suspicious in that group.  Smodge seems fairly suspicious, but I have a gut feeling that he's town for reasons why I blew off the debate he was in earlier:  debates that take up the first day are often between townies.

In any case, we don't necessarily get too much information off of Otter's scum-alignment because he got voted out for lurking.  Bleh.

Hey, look, ANOTHER time where NotMiki tries to come in, roll his eyes at us for whining about something, and makes himself look like a moronic mongoloid jackass in the process.  I'm surprised.  No.  Really.

Otter:

I read the topic.  There was a shitstorm between Smodge and Alex, yeah, but what of it?  In every game I've looked at or been in, shitstorms like that have ALWAYS been between two townies being paranoid for good reason.  Hal/Super.  Whoever it was in WoT.  There was one in Suikomafia that I don't recall.  It's not something I'd call discussion worth taking into account given previous experience.

Anyway, lying as town is bad in most cases.  Pretty much the only time lying ever helps town is if you're trying to pull off a Xanatos Gambit ala Captain K.  You have my word as a knight of the round table that I do not lie, for all the good it does me.

Dreamsongs:  Eh.  It's all right.  Some of his older short stories aren't that good, but they are just that:  his older short stories.  Enjoy the parts about R.R. Martin's life, at least.

Dance of Dragons needs to come out already.  I demand more Tyrion.

EDIT:  NEB, what's the title of the Einstein Biography?  It sounds like something I might want to pick up at some point.

Oh, yeah, I figure I should let you guys know:  If I'm under the name Slothman, or if I'm just doing well, it's my roommate playing, not I.

However, if it's under the name Makkotah and Monkey spends the entire time hunting me down and killing me because I'm easy prey, it's me and Monkey is an asshole.

HL2:  So, I updated my graphics card drivers and got through the point that kept crashing. Nova Prospekt was... probably my least favorite part of the game.  Sneaking in was awesome, but that was part of Sandtraps.  The only reason Prospekt gets my vote for least favorite thus far is that it embodies my only qualm with the game: how overly linear it is.  Fight some combine, walk a while, fight some combine, walk a while, get a new Antlion, walk some more, figure out how to open the door, continue walking...  Yeah.  Kinda getting repetitive.  Still the best single player shooter I've ever played, which... doesn't say all that much.  It's competition consists of Marathon, Doom, and Heretic.  Yeah.

Anyway, up to Anticitizen One and it keeps crashing so I've given up in frustration... again.  I don't even know what the problem is this time since it doesn't even give me an error message.

TF2:  My roommate and I have been playing this... a lot.  He's getting really good again, since he played a ton of TFC.  I, on the other hand, still suck, but I don't die instantly anymore.  I've been mainly playing Demoman and Soldier, occasionally switching to Medic or Heavy.  I play around with the other classes but that usually just ends in me dying immediately.  Demoman is fun, especially on Territory control maps.

Oh, on that note, fuck you Monkey.  Just... fuck you.
