Tournaments / Tenth Annual Holiday BOMB: Ten "Wise" Men
« on: December 25, 2012, 06:37:16 PM »

//SO2_Decus~/ I'm Mr. Green Christmas...
//SO2_Berle~/ Decus.
//SO2_Decus~/ I'm Mr. Sun...
//SO2_Nicolus~/ Decus.
//SO2_Decus~/ I'm Mr. Heat Blister...
//SO2_Indalecio~/ DECUS!
//SO2_Decus~/ I'm Mr. Hundred... oh, hello Indalecio. I didn't hear you come in.
//SO2_Indalecio~/ Quite.
//SO2_Shigeo~/ ALL RIGHT, BOSS, WE'RE ALL HERE. THIS HAD BETTER BE GOOD, I'M MISSING CAROLING WITH FUJIN FOR THIS.
//SO2_Indalecio~/ Believe me, Shigeo, I would not summon you all here without a good reason.
//SO2_Jibril~/ So are we finally going to rise up and crush everyone that stands before us en route to annihilating the universe?
//SO2_Indalecio~/ No, something far more auspicious than that - we are going to witness only the second virgin birth in history.
//SO2_Ruprecht~/ What?
//SO2_Indalecio~/ My beloved Filia is expected to give birth tonight. Naturally she is a virgin, as any male who would dare touch her knows that I would rip out all their body parts in alphabetical order.
//SO2_Shigeo~/ ARE YOU ALL RIGHT, CYRIL? YOU LOOK A LITTLE PALE.
//SO2_Cyril~/ I'm... I'm fine.
//SO2_Indalecio~/ And behold, the device that will lead us to her, the Scent Tracker and Recorder!
//SO2_Vesper~/ And we can't just go to the hospital where she is like normal people because...?
//SO2_Indalecio~/ I spoke to Melchior. He said that it's tradition to do this sort of thing in this situation.
//SO2_Marsilio~/ Ah. Above all, tradition.
//SO2_Indalecio~/ All I need to do is program it to find the nearest source of Filia's odor and... why is it hovering around your pelvis, Cyril?
//SO2_Cyril~/ Er, um, maybe it's getting a false positive from the bologna sandwich I had for lunch?
//SO2_Indalecio~/ Yes. That seems logical.
//Everywhere_EveryoneexceptIndyandCyril~/ *facepalm*
//SO2_Indalecio~/ All right, I have recalibrated it. Now let's follow that STAR!

Tournaments / 9th Annual Holiday BOMB: The Gift Exchange of the Magi
« on: December 24, 2011, 07:50:00 PM »
"Can I help you, sir?" asked the cashier.

Mr S nodded, then began his explanation. "Three days ago, I acquired this TrueEye Magi in your store. You advertised that it could resolve all visual issues, but I can only get it to display sight beyond sight. I would like to exchange this, please."

"Do you have a receipt?"

"Excuse me?"

The cashier sighed. "No exchanges or refunds without a receipt. If you have a problem with that, you'll need to speak with my manager. Can I help the next person in line?"

Mr S was shunted off to the side as he waited for the store manager to arrive.

"Hello, I'm Gobi,the manager on duty. How can I help you?"

You Are A:

True Neutral Human Wizard (3rd Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength- 10
Dexterity- 10
Constitution- 11
Intelligence- 13
Wisdom- 12
Charisma- 10

Yeah... that strength is highly overscored. Of note: the only job besides wizard that ended up with a positive total for me was Bard.

You know, like how Caitlin Olson is indistinguishable from an emu without computer image enhancing, and magnifying, and then enhancing again? Demi Moore's like that with a penguin.

Well, I guess that explains why she and Kutcher got together after the success of "Dood, Where's My Car?"  ::)

Fajitas > Burritos. Of course, both > tacos.

Been playing a bunch of emulation stuff for the heck of it. The fast forward on VBA goes at about 10000%. Cool.

1. I have seen no new movies so far this year.

2. I don't have one - I wear whatever's clean.

3. Based on entertainment value per dollar? Magic: DotP 2012.

4. The music from the trailer for No Time To Explain.

5. Had a barbecue a few weeks ago.

6. At least one in September - my cousin.

7. Nothing I'd consider iconic.

8. Magic: the Gathering, full stop.

9. Whatever the perfect wedding gift for my cousin would be, so I don't have to get anything.

10. Dealing with the wife of a deployed soldier whose phone bill was astronomical due to some issues with calling cards and stuff like that. Not nasty on my end, but that's the closest thing that would qualify.

11. "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." I suppose that will fit for the worldview if you presume that I'm the person and everyone else who has ever existed are the people.

12. Varies, but usually towards the tail end of September.

On one hand, I am happy - I finally got my PC and it's running, so I don't have to have three different browsers open in order to post here, on GameFAQs, and check my email.

On the other hand, it's been freaking frustrating. I've tried running TF2, but it won't go past the Source page before cutting back to the desktop (that is, when it's not validating files and hanging). My legendary email account got wiped, causing me to lose ten years of email. Then Raptor from GoG keeps on telling me that the application configuration is incorrect and won't run. And above all that, all the fixes I've seen online for these issues don't work. Sad Doma.

Oh well, at least I have a PC that is more or less working.

Heh, been a while since I posted.

Banjo-Tooey: I'm going to go ahead and say it - I found B-K to be superior in every single way save one - the fact that they let you know how to get the Jiggies. That's not to say that this was a bad game, just a very mediocre one.

CSI - Deadly Intent: This, on the other hand, is a bad game. I liked it, but it was a bad game. It's weird that for all that I think Telltale is the greatest gaming company currently making games that are released relatively on time, there are at least two series they do I think are bad despite liking the source material (this, and Wallace and Gromit). Conversely...

Back to the Future: The Game - About a third or so (I think) of the way through Episode 2. I really like this so far despite it being fairly easy and thinking that the original trilogy movies were mediocre at best with a few good moments. Still have to download the last episode.

Aww... today's my last day teaching my 5th graders... :'(

Friday will be my last day at the elementary school in general. I wonder what I should do for the last class?

First off, despite what some other degenerates here would tell you, make sure it involves wearing pants. Your pantsless party should wait until you finish teaching a high school class.

Second, is rounding up the kids to make a hostile takeover of the other classes possible? If not, then just have a party with American music or something.

_ _ _

It occurs to me that I haven't congratulated/consoled Shale yet for his upcoming nuptuals. Consider yourself congratulated/consoled, whichever you feel is most appropriate.

Got back from my local M12 prerelease event (day 1) about an hour ago. I was there for about 10 hours. 100 people showed up for the tournament, packed into a gaming shop about the size of your average McDonalds with the kitchen. So I'm now a card-carrying member of the DCI.

It was a 6-booster sealed deck thing, where you opened up all your boosters and then passed the lot of cards over a few spots. I passed a set that was heavy black-red, and got one that was about equally balanced in number. The store ran out of plains really early, and after nearly everyone set up they were out of islands, too. I set up a R/B deck centered around bloodthirst creatures and discard.

Round 1: A 2-1 loss to a R/B/U flying/control deck. At that point I had only one flyer in the deck, so I swapped out some discard and added green.

Round 2: A 2-0 loss to a B/W vampire/aura deck, though both matches were really close.

Round 3: A 2-1 loss to a R/B Goblin/bloodthirst deck. Again, somewhat close for both.

Round 4: A 2-0 loss to a W/B deck. This was the single worst round I had, in which I was proud to actually hit the guy once each match.

Round 5: A 2-0 win to a U/W flying/control deck. I managed to get my bloodthirst creatures out the gate before he could lay down defenses in the first match, and I got to set up my sole uber-combo (see below) in the second.

Round 6: A 2-1 loss to a W/G deathtouch/flying deck. Nothing particularly notable.

Round 7: A 2-1 loss to a U/G creature deck. I got mana screwed in both the losses, and won the other with a last-play Naturalize.

Top 5 Cards as far as use went:
1/2: Royal Assassin / Crown of Empires: When I got both of these out, I tended to win.
3: Goblin Fireslinger: The Goblin Tim probably did the most damage out of all the creatures I had over the course of the day.
4: Volcanic Dragon: My top flyer, great defender.
5: Incinerate: I guess, in that it was the final damage for two wins and burned down a crucial defender for a third.

So all in all I finished 1-6, 79th out of 100 and second-last among people who stayed through the whole thing. I met all four of my "realistic" goals (win a match, don't finish last, have fun, get at least one card I didn't have from an older set), and 2 out of 5 of my "dream" goals (win a round, not get shut out in damage in any match - though it was close; I didn't get "win something" - someone got $250 in a random draw, and when I left they were starting the top 16; didn't get "finish in the top half"; didn't get "get a Planeswalker").

12
Magic 2012 - Picked this up because so much Magic talk at the moment and hey I fucking love Magic.  I don't like the challenge puzzles as much this time.  A few to many so far have involved knowing what you are going to get on a draw to win, which is fine as a puzzle, but cuts back on the feeling of being able to look at that situation and pull out a win just by having good situational analysis and comes down to clutch oh hey stars aligned you got a win!!1

You just don't have enough faith in the Heart of the Cards, Gref.

13
Ordered a new computer. It'll take some time to get here and be set up. It's pretty low end, but it should be good enough to play some stuff, like MtGO. I'll hold off until the 12 release, though.

Faery: This is a mediocre turn based RPG centered around mythological creatures and places. They seemed to believe that it was good enough to spawn a sequel, since the first game ends with "to be continued". It's not. Beat it.

14
Regarding MtGO, a few questions I have that I couldn't find in my 3 minutes of searching on GameFAQs and the Mothership:

1. Do you start off with any cards, like a starter deck?
2. Is there any way to get completely free cards, such as them giving out one booster a month or something?
3. If I buy non-single real-world cards (i.e. boosters or prefab decks), is there a way to transfer them to MtGO?
4. I noticed that there's an option to buy your MtGO cards and have them send them to you as real-world. Is that available worldwide, or is is U.S. only like the Rewards?
5. Do they have the Un-series?

Tournaments / Bonus Match: Fisherman's Friend
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:20:44 PM »
In retrospect, the first problem should have been easy to predict. While it wasn't quite forty days and forty nights, the Drizzle was certainly long enough to flood the arena. The second problem, however...

"All right, let me get this straight - not only is the stadium flooded, but now there's several schools of fish in there? How did this happen?!"

Gobi and Irenes looked at each other for a moment before they both turned away, blushing. Fortunately for the sanity of everyone in the meeting, nobody noticed.

"Well, I suppose it doesn't matter. Let's just get a drain built in and empty the arena..."

"No can do, boss. As long as there are fish in that arena, it's classified as a lake and our contractors have a no-lake policy. The fish have to go first."

And since there's no way that a logical solution would be done when there's a pointless and potentially entertaining one available, the call went out to four Men! Of! The Sea (And Sometimes Sky)! to clean out the arena.

I checked and found out I missed the regional qualifiers for M:tG by one week. Sure, I wouldn't have won or really competed or anything, but I would have liked to have gone and watched. Especially since it was at Scotiabank Place. Sad me.

However, things aren't all bad - the International Chicken-Rib Cookoff starts again on Wednesday. I didn't get a chance to buy any sauces last year, but I will for sure this time. Attention U.S. DLers, especially Texans - are there any specific names/restaurants I should be looking for that you'd highly recommend? I know it's a longshot that any of your local faves would make it here, but you never know...

17
Same as Cap, only substitute "10 years" for "ever". I've always been more of a collector than a player. I wouldn't rule out getting me involved at some point in MtGO, though it would have to wait until I get a working PC first of course.

18
Yeah, looks like it's the first expansion (which is a bit disheartening, I was hoping they'd continue the tradition of giving us one of the boss decks from the previous set, Nicol or Karn). Wreath of Geists looks the prettiest to me, if only because I'm going to pretend that the guy is Rudolph Van Richten.

19
Magic 2012: Had some matches with the Cap'n tonight - got pretty badly beat on most of them, though I got a really lucky draw and won once with Gideon's equip deck. It was fun, though sadly it'll be a while before I get to play again since little bro had commandeered the Xbox. Still need to unlock a few cards for the NeoElfElf deck and Koth's Stone deck.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2: Cleared all Mission Mode story missions, which basically equals beating the game. Still have some missions to do to complete it.

20
Magic 2012 - Some obviously deranged guy accused me of cheating because I got my life over 60 in a campaign battle. I am crying. I was playing Vamp deck against Merfolk deck, and had a couple of black life-getting artifacts and the flying creature that gives 3 life when an enemy discards or loses a creature. The game was basically giving me life hand over fist. It's strange because I've hardly gotten to use much lifegain with the Vamp deck so far - I usually rely on the +1/+1 counters and creature destruction.

The Blue/Green deck is crazy with the land - by turn 7 my opponent has 6 land. I have 16.

21
Magic 2012: Came out today on 360, played for like seven hours straight and beat the campaign and got all the achievements. Yay for fun!

22
To further put things into perspective, Duke Nukem Forever is getting lower metacritic scores than games like Duke Nukem Advance, Duke Nukem 64, and Duke Nukem: Manhatten Project.

To be fair, Advance (according to the screenshots) looks like Duke 3D on a handheld, 64 is a pseudo-port of 3D, and Manhattan Project was a downloadable title with lower expectations. There's no doubt in my mind that DNF isn't going to be great, but as long as it's fun and the multiplayer doesn't suck, I'm sure it'll be fine.

23
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando - Beat. Good game, better than the original in almost every way.

Suikoden Tactics: Started this up.
-blah blah creatures as weapons blah blah blah I need a drink
-Hey look, it's Chibi-Snowe!
-And Lazlo... the f***?! He talked?!
-Snowe, you f***tard, listen to the nice man.
-Get first party, and oh look, it's the guys on the cover... and Walter. He's a dead man walking, isn't he.
-Clear the fight, new chapter. That was fast.
-Hey, it's Sigurd and Hervey. Hi, guys!
-I nearly get wiped out in my first real fight, but just barely win with two people left.
-Why is Jerry Lawler shooting at me?
-Hello, Marlon Brandeau, the Falcon Rune, and someone I don't recognize. I'm sure glad nothing bad's going to happen to any of you.

And that's all for now.

Discussion / Re: Issues Poll 4: Alcohol and the legal drinking age
« on: June 09, 2011, 03:50:19 PM »
In the US, people become legally liable for the consequences of their actions between ages 7 to 10 in most states.

Okay, that's a little young, but I'm fine with that as long as it's in moderation. Of course, buying alcohol would be a totally different question.

Pretty simple answer for me: you should be allowed to use things like alcohol once you become legally liable for the consequences.
