Both sound like really good ideas to me. While they're both a bit limiting, I think they'll make room for a lot more possibilities and give a new and fresh way to approach the dungeon. One of my personal gripes with the dungeon has been that, having participated in it 4 times (I think), I've just been using the same characters over and over. My RPG library is regrettably not as large as some of yours, so I'm a bit more limited in my choice of characters. I'd find myself just picking Eiko/Garnet/Red XIII/Sharanda over and over as my token reviver(s), and I think it did start feeling stale.

If I could just address a couple of things, the way you're thinking of operating Game-Centric Teams could be a little bizarre or imbalanced. Some casts may end up deceptively powerful (as mentioned with FF4, you've got 5 characters, which, regardless of character selection, is 2 extra bodies of HP that enemies need to take out compared to your typical 3-party game; that's a huge advantage.) Also, how would you handle games like Fire Emblem, where party size could be even more problematic? It's a good idea, I just think it could be fine-tuned a little.

As for the Class Challenge, that'd be really interesting. I know someone did a Final Fantasy Classes tournament not so long ago, and that was really fun to watch unfold. The only thing is that, maybe even more so than the Game-Centric Teams idea, you could find yourself in a lot of sticky situations. Several strong characters that would be worth having on a team don't have an obvious class (Is Tidus a Time Mage? What's Wakka? How 'bout characters like Aika, Edgar, Kratos/Zelos or Feena?). It feels like a Class Challenge system favours certain games over others.

Regardless what happens, I'll be the first to say that I'd happily participate in a new format for the dungeon and make some kind of new team. I'll be sure to give input and suggestions as they come to mind, too.

I'd only ever consider using that damage average if I actually gave them the runes. Factoring skills and equips you don't let a character have in an actual duel is egregiously unfair to me. It's arbitrarily nerfing an entire cast just for the sake of making a number you like more.

I agree, and the only reason I ask is because I've never really seen a Suikoscrub be granted a storebought rune in the DL, so it got me wondering.

This might sound like a silly question, but out of curiosity, for those who take the average damage of Suikoden games as including storebought runes for those with a good affinity, would you consider those characters as having those runes if they were in an actual DL match?

Like, for example, if Nina was in a match, would you grant her a Fire rune?

--Is that Sleep blocker for Songstress bought in a floor 1 equivalent place?

The Twist Headband (sleep-blocking accessory in X-2) is available right at the beginning of the game from the hypello in the Celcius.

New team:

Miakis (4.0)
Crowley (2.0)
Garnet (2.0)
Zalmo (2.5) w/ Neo Speed
FF1 Monk (0.5)

Replaced Zerase with Miakis, who I can optimize for strong MT damage. Also decided to ditch Red for ZALMO. Less damage, but much more healing. And with Neo Speed? Oh man, MUCH MORE HEALING. I think I'll confirm this as my team. =)

7
Zerase with Body Charge is quite powerful/fast but she kind of wants MP restoration to go with her, since the L4 charge can only be blown once the first few floors and twice the latter part (with maybe 3 at F7?)

So how is this for a team idea?
Souji (Firefly), Aika, Amarant, Yukiko, Seifer: I wanted to go for a defensive build without being overly gimmicky. Seifer also provides some MT limit nonsense with cover from Delta Shield + Firefly Souji. Seemed like a good fit. The team's raw offense isn't that powerful but I think this would work well enough? Thoughts?

Oh, hrm. I just realized that only Zerase's L4 charge is actually MT. In that case, my team doesn't have quite as much MT as I thought it did. I think I'll rework my team a bit.

As for your team, is there any specific reason for Amarant? When I think of reasons for Amarant, it's mostly his MP healing and his strong early damage. It's worth noting that he cannot learn Revive in any way until Disc 3.

For what it's worth, if Sinspawn Ammes is the one that will be doing the bulk of the damage to the team and Lucia, Ammes is NOT immune to Silence, so he can be completely neutered by Songstress.

9
Alright, time for a new team, why not. I've done gimmicky teams the last couple of times, I figure I'd just try a straight up overkill-damage one this time.

Zerase (4.5) w/ Body Charge
Crowley (2.0)
Garnet (2.0)
Red XIII (2.0)
Robo (0.5)

Ph34r teh MT.

EDIT: I hope you guys aren't getting tired of seeing Red XIII in the dungeon, by the way, but he really is an ideal pick for so many teams, I find.

How good is FFX-2 Blind?  Kind of matters since Poison Chop is effectively 5 different attacks, so 0% vs. 20% vs. 50% accuracy is kinda important.

FFX-2 Blind is functionally the same as FFX Blind.

The Darkness status overrides the Accuracy and Evasion stats and lowers the chance of attacks and skills landing to 10%, before Luck is taken into account.

11
That's correct, mage classes would only have the spells available to them at the time.  In the same way Samurai on F3 is not going to have the Masamune, that's F6 as well, and Red Mage's damage will be excellent off X-Magicing spells that don't suck yet (relatively).

You might be thinking of Saga Frontier Blue?  I know there was some weirdness with him getting endgame level stuff on F1/F2, but Saga.jpg.

Maybe you're right. I thought I remembered a floor where someone went Time Mage w/ Bartz, and pretty much got all Time Mage spells, with the only limitations for higher-level spells being MP, and that was also the point where Reset got subsequently banned. That might have just been solely my interpretation, though.

12
Sure, Bartz magically gets infinite JP to master White Magic, but you can't buy Holy in earlygame FF5.  The JP requirement is skipped, the "actually have access to it" requirement isn't.

By that logic, you can't actually have access to a lot of spells, since magic only becomes available as you progress to new towns, and that's definitely not how I remember Bartz in the dungeon.

13
Thanks Snow :)

I thought Bartz got to start each floor with a mastered job or am I not getting that right?

http://www.rpgdl.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dungeon_Stuff#Bartz

According to this, he does master 1 job per floor, and based on what I've seen from prior teams with Bartz, Ramza, and Cloud type characters, I would definitely grant Holy. Holy costs 20 MP (which is actually less than Raise at 29 MP), so I'd say Bartz could use it a couple of times in the first floor.

So...  what would Barret's endgame DL damage be if he's given 8 Mastered Sense Materias, just out of curiosity?  (Picked that as a random "useless phantom materia as a rough guess".)

This is the Missing Score damage formula.

[Power*(Total AP attached to Weapon /10000 )/16]+1

Sense is mastered at 40,000 AP, so 8 Mastered Sense materias would let Barret do exactly 2 times as much. To reach the typical 3x multiplier of the other ultimate weapons, he would need 8 Mastered materia that required 60,000 AP or more each (most Support and Summon materia are well above this margin, though).

Elf, as for Lulu & Ultima, you got it, Ultima Fury does suggest it's "Lulu's" (despite it SUCKING HORRIBLY).  Both Lulu & Kimahri need to spend a Return Sphere after finishing their grid once L4 unlocks are available to go collect it, and it's not that much farther a hike for Lulu.  Since I'm okay with letting Yuna spend a Return Sphere to go grab Auto-Life, seems fair to do the same here.

Just wanted to address this, but I think that's a weird reason to give Lulu Ultima, since she can also do Drain Fury and Osmose Fury, yet she isn't granted those.

EDIT: Just saw that this point was already made. Sorry. ^^;

I thought Meg came a lot more underleveled that she actually does. Maybe I was thinking of Fiona? Either way, I switched Meg to Lyre; I don't think there's any question of her Light-ness. Also, changed Zephiel to Fire Dragon (FE7).

I'll keep Ulki w/ Laguz Band in, but if CK doesn't like it, he can change it to Zephiel (FE6).

Thanks for the fixes.

More noms? Sure, I love me some Fire Emblem. If any of these noms sound like they aren't in the right division, just let me know, and I'll change them.

Godlike
Nailah (FE10)
Giffca (FE9)
Fire Dragon (FE7)
Fargus (FE7) <-- lol, this can work, right?

Heavy
Levail (FE10)
Limstella (FE7)
Harken (FE7) <-- With the Brave Sword, I figure he can hold his own in Heavy.
Ulki w/ Laguz Band (FE10) <-- Can I do this? It makes him a solid Heavy nom, I think.

Middle
Titania (FE9)
Jaffar (FE7)
Eliwood (FE7)
Valter (FE8)

Light
Lucius (FE7)
Rennac (FE8)
Dayan (FE6)
Lyre (FE10)

Team Dhyer | Cecilia (Speed?), Alys, Terra , Ronfar, Jean(Lunar)
Floor 2a: Adventuring (Earlygame)
What does Ceci do floor 2? Looks like Prison, Reflect, Revive, heal... nasty. But does anyone else in the team have revival?

Terra learns Raise at level 18, and Ronfar learns Revive Litany at level 21. Both seem a little high for floor 2, as a gut reaction. No clue if Alys has any.

ThePiggyman: I thought that Miranda has MT item heals?  My theory was that Ramza + Shadow can just smash Dheginsea.  Dheginsea is all about the subtractive defense hype, but Ramza has very high damage (even if it's in 2 shots), and Shadow's Throw is ITD, so it's acutally perfect for breaking through.  Dheingsea's HP is actually not all that special, so if you're able to get damage in, I'm willing to hype it.  Ashera...  sure she has MT damage, but as noted, I thought Miranda could just heal it off.  I'm also not one for hyping Aura reflect-damage much vs. MT damage, so Shadow doesn't commit suicide when he attacks everyone to finish off Dheginsea to me.  (but even if he did, that might be okay.)

She does, with Healing Breezes. I wasn't aware that Throw damage was ITD, though. I guess that would put a pretty big dent into his HP. FWIW, I do consider Ashera's Auras returning MT damage, since the returned damage is not a counter in any way, by my definition of a counter, at least, although I would consider the damage returned to only be the equivalent of if one Aura was attacked, or otherwise, Ashera would just pretty much murder anyone who even thought about using MT damage, and that's kinda silly. Just my view on it, though.

Anyways, ITD might swing that fight, since that also pierces through the Auras. I guess the only question I'm wondering now is if Sharanda has to attack Dheginsea to finish him off. If Ramza + Shadow can pull it off, I might pass after all, but if not, Sharanda either has to eat a Dheggy counter (lolol) or let Dheginsea get a turn, and if Dheginsea and Ashera combine their MT, that will most probably kill off Sharanda, Shadow, and maybe even Ramza, if he gets caught with his MP at 0 from the Dheginsea counter.

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic here? I just feel like if I go for the Vanishing, I'll just be stuck in an MT heal-lock of sorts, but if I go for the bum-rush, I'm putting myself at risk to just get ripped apart.

I'm actually not so sure I pass anymore. I honestly don't think my team can handle Ashera. I'll start by throwing out that I give Ashera full credit for the Auras. Although Dheginsea's got a triple lightning weakness, Shadow's damage is hurt by the MT Sealstone, and Ramza is getting countered regardless whether I attack or throw a Lightning Ball (I'm not even sure which will do more damage: one hits into godlike defenses, the other does garbage damage prior to the weakness.) I'm not sure I can bum-rush Dheginsea, and even if I do, it means that no one will have Vanish, and half my team will have already been hurt pretty bad. Ramza's MP Switch trick isn't going to work because of the return damage, and his durability is bad if he reaches 0 MP.

Snowfire mentioned that Sharanda can handle Ashera, but I don't see it. I'm on Floor 6, so the item damage is pretty much below average now, and it's ramming into Ashera's resistance, which borders on immunity.

I'm going with a Fail for myself, but if you don't have the same respect for Ashera I do, you might see me passing.

For what it's worth, I think I'd have failed the other floor even harder, haha.

Leech seed's recipient can be any one on the team, though the MT seal stone might make it multitarget on my team's end as well?

That's what I think needs clearing up: what exactly becomes MT? What happens if Leech Seed is used in-game in a Double Battle, just for reference? Can you use it on both opponents? I think whatever happens if you have one Pokemon use Leech Seed on both opposing Pokemon would be a good example of how it would translate in the Dungeon with the MT Sealstone.

Uphill battle at the end shouldn't be too bad. If Gilder gets enough turns, he actually gets to use one of his damage S-Moves which should be breaking the damage curve this early on.

More Leech Seed hype goes here because clearly it will keep my whole party alive. (that or Nina1)

Out of curiosity, how would MT Leech Seed work? If you count it as a status, it's 60% accurate, so probably doesn't hit everyone. If you count it as a drain-type attack, then it drains 8.3% on everyone per turn. I haven't played much Pokemon, so I wouldn't know, but based on how the move works, if Whimsicott is the one using Leech Seed, wouldn't Whimsicott be the recipient of all the drainage-healing?

As for my floor, I'll be actually voting and analyzing in a little while. For the most part, I'm banking on the same tricks as before, although Ramza outspeeding an enemy with MP Switch/Move-MP Up could be life-saving, too (maybe), especially if I can just bull-rush one of the bosses, and have it be Ramza + whoever's still alive vs. the other boss. Status and double-acting make that trickier against some of the bosses, though.

Piggyman: Skies confuse is "spam your basic physical at targets other than yourself."  So it's worse in the DL than in-game since physicals are usually pretty sad in-game, but some casts have actually decent physicals.  (I guess you could apply some kind of hand-wavey damage penalty, but eh.)

Oh, right, derp. Was thinking FFX Confuse instead of Skies Confuse. My bad, haha.

Aika vs Auron (FFX)- This defies my ability to describe. Auron immunes poison but can't immune confuse. He goes first and zombie breaks Aika. The best case for Aika here is that confuse disables Auron's counters. Even if it does that, she is constantly hitting Auron for next to no damage (her damage with the swimerang is sub Cristo). Masamune's offense going up as he gets lower on HP really hurts Aika here as well.  She loses this in spite of the constant doubles, preventing Auron from ever getting an overdrive, *and* inflicting him with status. It is truly an amazing fight. Of course if confuse doesn't disable his counters, she is just fucked.

Auron actually gets Confuse Ward (50% protection) from a storebought armor, in Luca after obtaining the Airship. I'd think that would seal the deal.

On another note, I don't think it's in Aika's best interest to attack Auron AFTER he's been confused. With how bad her offense is, wouldn't it be more effective to have Auron wail on himself, and just Defend or Focus in the mean time? And if Aika's defending, she can last longer on the turns where Auron doesn't hit himself. It still ends up being a pretty chancy fight, but I think the only time Aika wants to attack is to inflict the Confusion.

Will vote in a couple days.
