RPGDL Discussion / Re: NR season 11 Week 5

I can see your argument, but the fact that activating the fusion prompts Neku to attack to still makes me iffy about seeing it as a solo skill. It doesn't really matter this match though since Shiki's level three fusion's lackluster damage doesn't fare well against Chansey's really high HP, and immobilize doesn't help much unless I'm wrong about it wearing off after one-hit. Also Shiki only gets like 25% healing from it if I remember correctly (not counting the extra ~25% Neku's half of the fusion restores, that's too generous).

It's a battle of ridiculously low damage. Chansey's got tanky HP with healing, Shiki's got average stats with 6HKO damage and a 2HKO fusion, I just don't see how Shiki puts Chansey or even makes Chansey run out of healing. Meanwhile on the flipside, Shiki's own less effective healing can only be used, at most, every four turns plus one turn for every time she uses it. This can't keep up with Chansey's damage in what will likely be a very long slugfest.

First, unless I'm mistaken, Neku actually IS involved in the Fusion's mechanics as far as damage goes. Also Fusions have a lot to do with Sync, which fluctuates depending on how you feed Neku and the partner. It's all really complicated, and since plotwise Neku actually has the pin allowing fusion attacks, it seems best to just throw it out. Unless someone can find the exact mechanics for Fusions and it turns out Neku's not involved.

Also you're wrong about only Shiki getting her fusions fast enough. Joshua gets his just as fast. Beat's the only one who has any trouble getting fusions.

For single-PC RPGs, everyone usually views it exactly the same as any other RPG. Put the character(s) into a damage average, multiply the average by 2.5 for kill point. So this means single-PC PCs always have 2.5xPCHP and usually have to rely on some other trick like status. I think a few people may just take the PCs damage against random encounters though.

Edit: I looked around, and yes, Neku is directly involved in the damage. Sync isn't involved however. So I guess if you wanted to totally ignore Neku's plot and statistical relevence to the fusions, you could just consider Neku's attack to be 0 in the formula, which makes the fusions a lot less impressive (except Joshua's level 3 fusion which has a base attack power of 99.99). If you're wondering what Shiki's level 3 fusion damage looks like without Neku, it's 960 to a 1645 kill point. So yeah, not terribly good depending on which defense you see Fusions hitting. Seems to make more sense to see Fusions hitting Magic resistance rather than Physical, which would make Shiki's fusion rather useless here.

Fair enough in regards to Genesis Avatar. I still see him as totally legal though. Don't see his power being tied to a specific place as making the form illegal.

And Genesis is definitely worn out by the final fight. He literally has to fling himself at Zack in the pre-fight cutscene. Zack just kind of steps out of the way of the attack and Genesis practically falls down. If I'm not mistaken, they even make him speak like he's tired out. Then the during the battle itself, he's still stumbling around like he's tired. Minerva only cured his degredation (and apparently gave him eternal youth?), she didn't restore him. I'm not saying any of this is grounds to make this form illegal, it's just you vaguely implied this form is somehow more legitimate than his first form.

I agree with TWEWY vs Pokemon being the most interesting.

Shiki's damage is pathetic no matter what form or interpretation you use, so Chansey just wails on Shiki and heals when necessary until Shiki falls. I don't allow the fusions for the partners, but even if you do, Shiki would need to last long enough to get a level three fusion to take Chansey down in one-hit, and I don't think I see that happening.

5
Minerva Plate only immunes Paralysis and Instant Death (and not even the latter in the DS version, according to the stat topic), so Bad Breath slaughters. Not that Bad Breath is even needed.

Just want to add a few things. The materia crystals Sephiroth summons have some various elemental immunities/resistances, are capable of elemental magic, and of support spells (most importantly, spells to halve physical and magical damage to Sephiroth). This at least gives them some use. ON the downside for Sephiroth, I think Octoslash may be gravity-based damage, but I'm not sure.

As for Genesis, I'm not totally sure why Genesis Avatar would be illegal (Plot reasons? Really? How is this really any different than how a bunch of other villains got their power? Most notably, Kefka, unless you're really voting based on his Narshe form.), and I think it's worth noting that Genesis' last form staggers at just about every hit. The game technically runs on a sort of super-fast ATB, and it seems that stagger has some effect on the enemy's ATB gauge. I'd guess it at least slows it down. So Genesis ends up looking pretty slow. Also, when he does attack, his attacks are inaccurate enough that you'll dodge them by accident pretty often. Plotwise, he's already worn down and really has no strength left. Translate that as you will. Also Apocalypse might be gravity-based too, not that it matters unless you honestly hold him to this form.

*TWEWY SPOILERS*

To chip in to the Shiki debate, I personally wouldn't asign any real element or affiliation or typing etc. to the partners' attacks. It's really a stretch to claim plot claim here in my opinion. Plus there's Joshua, who doesn't have any plot claim to his powers other than "lol im god". But anyway, I don't think any of that matters since Knoll should not be fail enough to lose this, especially (but not exclusively) under my Brave ignoring interpretation. On that note however, on the whole "taking partners post-game or when they leave your party" thing, they all have the same base stats, so it's not as if it's detrimental to Shiki to take the partners post-game. In fact, she's got better equips by the end-game anyway, so that'd be beneficial for her!

*END TWEWY SPOILERS*

Also I'm disappointed by the lack of Mateus vs Sora debate going on. Personally I think not holding the exploitable growth system against Mateus gives him this pretty safely.

Well out of curiosity, for anyone who takes all the classes at the same level (I don't think I do right now, but like I said, curiosity), would the Black Belt be at about equal damage to the Monk or would the Black Belt actually be stronger?

Godlike

Myria (BoFs) vs. Xorn (G3) - Myria. Unless this looks like a dumb pick when I wake up and think harder about the matches.
Edit: Yeah, Myria wins.

Heavy

T260G (SaGa) vs. Ayla (CT) - T260G. See above with less indecision.
Edit: Actually going to go with Ayla on a kneejerk.

Middle

Menardi (GS) vs. Jean (BoF2) - Menardi. This makes me happy for so many reasons. I've developed an unhealthy hatred of Jean these past two seasons, Menardi is showing why she was a Godlike Champ who bested the likes of this season's Godlike Champ, Menardi makes the upgrade pool for a chance at joining the "I don't know which division I belong in damnit!" club (along with the likes of Worker 8 and Queen Zeal), etc.

Light

Yukimaru (Disgaea 2) vs. Red Wizard (FF1) - No I am not going to even GUESS at this one until I see a stat topic tomorrow. I thought I remember Yukimaru having the second best movement behind Tink, and I have no idea what Red Wizard's FF1DoS speed looks like to average or if he even wants DoS form.
Edit: Huh, DoS Red Wizard is pretty badass. He wins and hopefully upgrades.

Just a note, and I may be remembering wrong, but Tyr girl is basically a plot fight where using Agni ends the battle and not using Agni and defeating her the normal way gives you the bad ending I think. Again, I am very possibly remembering that wrong, but I definitely remember having to use Agni to get to the Hydra form.

16
Godlike

Myria (BoFs) vs Rubicant (FF4) - Myria? I hold Agni against her, but isn't the damage cap with Agni 999 damage? Which still makes her like 30xPCHP? Which is kinda overkill durability. Also I'm a little upset that Rubicant won since now I don't get to call Emelious "Emelious de Killer".
Edit: Gonna buy into the Myria 3 Blizzard hype, even if her durability isn't stellar and I hate her.
Xorn (G3) vs Nate Nanjo (Pers) - Xorn.

Heavy

Red (Saga) vs T260G (Saga) - Oooh, same-game duel! Not totally sure, gonna wait to see some arguments.
Edit: Persuaded to go with T260G.
Ayla (CT) vs Garnet til Alexandros (FF9) - Ayla. I think.

Middle

Menardi (GS) vs Ulf (G3) - Menardi. Former Godlike Champion, also Myria AND Songi slayer!
Jean (BoF2) Jade Curtiss (TotA) - Gonna wait for confirmation on "TotA status blocker doesn't stop ID".
Edit: Going to allow full status blocker to block ID, which still doesn't clinch it for Jade, but my Jade respect is high enough that he wins.

Light

Zoah (CC) vs Yukimaru (Disgaea 2) - Yukimaru. Yukimaru respect = high enough that she should be in Middle.
Red Wizard (FF1) vs Relm Arrowny (FF6) - Relm. Control.

Aether - 24% chance of Normal Parasitic Healing, then a second hit that does damage based off Def/2 in place of a normal physical, 62 damage total, 27 Healing, Melee Only.  Note that while the first hit is insured (given the order of checks), the second makes its own accuracy check.

Aether going off doesn't sound super threatening to me.  Ike heals and then has to hit against evasion again for it to mean anything anyway.

This being a factor requires the odds playing in Ike's favour already anyway if you are assuming Blind strategy.  If you assume Protect like NEB, the odds of it coming up increase, but the damage is also a hell of a lot more survivable since the Def/2 attack is still getting halved by Protect anyway and OH SHIT she might have to spend a bit more MP on healing that turn.

I am unconvinced.

Hm, perhaps I have oversold Aether then. So she definitely wins unless you're allowing Ike two hits per turn, in which case it's subject to interpretation.

While we're throwing stuff out there, I know taking FE Hit literally is bad, so I'm not sure how to figure out his actual hit rate, but the raw stat is like 146 or something. So does that off-put Blind any? I assume 146 isn't as spectacular as it sounds, so probably not.

19
No, Guest Snake in MGS2 has 1.25 Raiden's HP. And Meryl is not a helpless guest, she mows down guards with you in that one scene early on.

20
Aether is like ~25% chance, and I never said it's turn 2. It's turn 3 or 4.

But let me see if I can summarize:
-If you hold Garnet's speed against Ike's doubling and don't give him initiative, she smashes.
-If you hold Garnet's speed against Ike's doubling but give him initiative, headache, but Garnet seems to have the advantage.
-If you don't hold Garnet's speed against Ike's doubling and give him initiative, totally unfair Ike blowout.
-If you don't hold Garnet's speed against Ike's doubling but don't give him initiative, headache, but Ike seems to have the advantage.

Pick your poison.

21
So then MGS1 Snake is 2xPCHP, and since rations are exclusive to him, he has healing. Not to mention some of his heavier artillery is just overkill compared to temp Meryl's damage, not to mention some invisibility. Godlike? I'm surprised, it's actually better than his Guest form in MGS2 with the 1.25xPCHP and game-best damage.

Oh god, I've gotta stop, I'm so close to doing MGS stat topics.

22
You could always just go by who was consistently doubling in game, but I think interps that don't involve averages are usually frowned on, so meh.

Stat topic by metroid composite:

So...let me first get it out of the way that much of this has been done for me already--namely the actual damage testing:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=605111

However, these are damages per shot, as opposed to taking rate of fire into account, so I plan to do that.

---------

First of all, here's some approximate rate of fire data I collected (some of these may be off by 5% or so, but it should be reasonably accurate:

Scout scattergun: 3:60, 3:71 (for 6 shots) -- 0:60 per shot?
Scout bat: 5:04, 5:19 (for 10 shots) -- 0:50 per shot?
Scout pistol: 3:13, 3:16 (for 12 shots) -- 0:25 per shot?

Soldier Rocket launcher: 3:09, 3:14 (for 4 shots) -- 0:75 per shot? (40 damage of recoil)
Soldier shovel: 7:58, 7:42, 7:59 (for 10 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?
Soldier Shotgun: 3:80, 3:63 (for 6 shots) -- 0:60 per shot?

Pyro Flamethrower: 16:50, 16:49 (for 200 ammo) -- 0:08 per shot?
Pyro Shotgun: 3:78, 3:54 (for 6 ammo) -- 0:60 per shot?
Pyro Axe: 7:68, 7:87 (for 10 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?

Demo grenades: 2:26, 2:17 (for 4 shots) -- 0:55 per shot?
Demo stickies: 5:99, 5:53, 5:61 (for 8 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?
Demo Bottle: 7:55 (for 10 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?

Heavy minigun: 21:07, 20:68 (for 200 ammo) -- 0:10 per ammo?
Heavy Shotgun: 3:57 (for 6 ammo) 0:60 per shot?
Heavy Fists: 7:59 (for 10 shots) 0:75 per shot?

Engineer Shotgun: 3:48, 3:63 (for 6 shots) 0:60 per shot?
Engineer Pistol: 3:01 (for 12 shots) -- 0:25 per shot?
Engineer wrench: 7:75 (for 10 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?

Medic Needlegun: 4:29, 4:44, 4:41 (for 40 shots) -- 0:11 per shot?
Medic Saw: 7:82, 7:67 (for 10 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?

Sniper rifle: 36:42, 36:79 (for 25 shots scoped and unscoped, reload included since it happens after every shot) -- 1:50 per shot?
Spiper Machine pistol: 2:96, 2:93 (for 25 shots) -- 0:12 per shot?
Sniper knife: 7:64 (for 10 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?

Spy Gun: 2:96, 2:94 (for 6 shots) -- 0:50 per shot?
Spy Knife: 7:65 (for 10 shots) -- 0:75 per shot?

-------

Also, I'm going to assume point blank range, since otherwise melee weapons wouldn't work, and this is a DL stat topic after all. I'll also assume one turn is one second.

Scout
HP: 125

Damage:
Scattergun: 158 (LONG reload time)

Shotgun: 142 (LONG reload time)
Shovel: 87

Pyro
HP: 175 (Immune to being set on fire)

Damage:
Flamethrower: 187 and causes "on fire" status (basically poison that deals about 50 damage, though obstructs vision a bit too).
Shotgun: 142 (LONG reload time)
Fire Axe: 87

Sticky Bomb: 153 (These get stuck to the ground, and don't detonate until you press the right mouse button. Great at taking out stationary people who can heal, since you can stick 8 of them then trigger them all at once. They do take half a second to arm, though, so someone good at dodging can avoid them).
Bottle: 87

Heavy Weapons Guy (Meet the Heavy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY5qJHZCz2I)

Fists: 87

Engineer (meet the engineer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i68cEsALWt0)
HP: 125

Shotgun: 142 (LONG reload time)
Pistol: 84
Wrench: 87

Medic
HP: 150 (Also has a slow regen, but it's like 2-3 HP per second)

Syringe Gun: 114
Bone Saw: 87

Sniper
HP: 125

Sniper Rifle: 34 (charged non-headhsot; headshot damage not known, but probably around 100)
Machine Pistol: 92
Machete: 87

The Sniper's saving grace is that headshots with the Sniper Rifle deal significantly more damage; unfortunately it's not known how much more damage.

Spy
HP: 125

Revolver: 115
Knife: 53 (and realistically lower than that, because it's the only weapon that can't crit).

The Spy's saving grace is that stabs in the back with the knife are instant death, and he can go invisible to help this happen. Unlike Sniper I doubt this will matter, though, since in a duel you can use "back facing a corner".

Overall....

My logic concludes that giving FF9's speed stat an ability it never had doesn't make sense, therefore I'm not going to let it stop Ike from doubling.

She heals there, doesn't go for mini straight away.  If she was going to try that there is no reason to cast blind.  If you see her not getting killed on Ikes turn she Minis on turns he misses and heals on turns he hits.

Oh right, totally forgot healing there. But then again, Ike either crits or Aethers (which one depends on your speed interp) at some point if she gives Ike another turn, and she's not outliving either one.

Useful Misc. Info by OblivionKnight:

Bah, Falcon Crest hype is the best ;_; (by the averages used, at least, it's 2x average damage, so isn't a HORRID limit >_>). Again, the primary reason I used it was for ease of calculations, but I'll modify it. Going with Kusanagi (probably the better overall weapon in-game), but no Claw Gauntles (I typically default to best defensive set-up for averages)...

Physical - 1960 (I think his 4-hit physical sequence was 4 slashes - 1 upward slash, 1 downward slash and then the spin - but I'm not 100% certain what the spin is classified as)
Tiger Blade - 790
Sword Rain - 670
Sonic Sword Rain - 1310
Demonic Circle - 2210

Full Sequence: 5410
w/ EX Skills: 5430 (AWESOME BOOST!!!!!)

So yeah, puts him at the top, though not by a huge amount.

Presea with Pow Hammer DX against humans:

Phyiscal - 1860
Punishment - 1630
Finite Devastation - 2790
Rising Punishment - 4840

Full Sequence - 9250

Awesome. Kratos and Zelos beat her with the EX skills, but that's still game-best by a huge margin. On that note, considering she loses 100 attack from the Pow Hammer DX to Gaia Cleaver change, this is...still impressive.

For fun: Sheena's Cards of Ice against Human weakness!

Physical - 1260
Pinion - 840
Cyclone Seal - 1620
Demon Seal - 1260

Full Combo - 3480 (barely better, and a common element...blah)
EVIL GAIA slaying - 3170 (a bit better?)

Crystal Dagger Kratos/Zelos against a beast:

Physical - 2280
Sonic Thrust - 1060
Lightning Blade - 2510
Super Lightning Blade - 2850

Combo - 7470
w/ EX Skill - 8010

Mauls Blue13...if it could hit. Granted, to me, Judgment is a OHKO to him, so...

I'll be doing this for other characters too, I gues, so here's another one for fun...

Presea with Gaia Cleaver vs. EXDEATH!!!!

Physical - 2060
Punishment - 1800
Finite Devastation - 3090
Rising Punishment - 5360

Combo - 10240
