Blake Perdue - Into Your Kamikaze (Star Ocean 2) vs The Black Mages - Maybe I'm A Lion (Final Fantasy 8) - Solid if somewhat sleep-inducing at times vs. something I don't really care for

Kidd Cabbage - Angelus Errare (Chrono Cross) vs The King Of Fighters '96 Arrange Soundtrack - Arashii no Saxophone 2 (The King of Fighters '96) - 41 minutes dear god what the fuck.  Anyways, Angelus Errare fell off in a number of places and never managed to be significantly better than the CC pieces it remixed even when it was solid.   Arashii no Saxophone, on the other hand, manages to be decent enough to win here.

Children of the Monkey, Machine, Steve Pordon - Silent Hill 2 StaticAversion OC ReMix (Silent Hill series) vs FFVI Piano Collection - Celes (Final Fantasy 6) - Meh

Blake Perdue - Into Your Kamikaze (Star Ocean 2) vs The Black Mages - Maybe I'm A Lion (Final Fantasy 8): Not one of the Black Mages' best tracks, but right now I'm feeling the hard rock angle more than I am Kamikaze's more leisurely mood (for all that it is an interesting take on one of SO2's few excellent songs).
Kidd Cabbage - Angelus Errare (Chrono Cross) vs The King Of Fighters '96 Arrange Soundtrack - Arashii no Saxophone 2 (The King of Fighters '96): Waaay too long to be used in this kind of contest, but turning the CC OST into an album-length rock opera is, at the least, ambitious.
Children of the Monkey, Machine, Steve Pordon - Silent Hill 2 StaticAversion OC ReMix (Silent Hill series) vs FFVI Piano Collection - Celes (Final Fantasy 6): Pretty. I like the SH track for its mood, but it does wander so.
Roetaka - Run Away with Me (Goldeneye 007) vs Stella Deus BGM ReArrange Album - Sky Ray (Stella Deus): Shit, man. This is far prettier than anything coming from Stella Deus has a right to be.
Sensitive Heart - Lunatic Princess (Imperishable Night) vs JigginJonT - The Flood Plain OC (F-Zero): Well, that's an unexpected direction to take for Big Blue. It works, though. And the Touhou track isn't significantly better than the original despite better sound quality.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki FC & SC Super Arrange Version - I swear... Instrumental Ver. (The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki) vs Sensitive Heart - Scarlet Destiny (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil): The opposition's a little too meandering. Also, Remilia.
Bound Together EB remixes - Santa is Dead (Earthbound) vs efs - Ryuunosuke Akutagawa's Kappa Arrange (Mountain of Faith): Silly enough to be fun, as opposed to Yet Another Nitori Song.

Blake Perdue - Into Your Kamikaze (Star Ocean 2) vs The Black Mages - Maybe I'm A Lion (Final Fantasy 8) - I wasn't expecting a track with the word "Kamikaze" in the title to be so dang boring.
Kidd Cabbage - Angelus Errare (Chrono Cross) vs The King Of Fighters '96 Arrange Soundtrack - Arashii no Saxophone 2 (The King of Fighters '96) - Abstain out of laziness. Like hell I'm going to sit through a 41-minute track, no matter how good it may be.
Children of the Monkey, Machine, Steve Pordon - Silent Hill 2 StaticAversion OC ReMix (Silent Hill series) vs FFVI Piano Collection - Celes (Final Fantasy 6) - Okay. Two or three minutes of actual music interspersed among four or five minutes of static and white noise does not constitute a good remix.

Roetaka - Run Away with Me (Goldeneye 007) vs Stella Deus BGM ReArrange Album - Sky Ray (Stella Deus) - The Stella Deus track is very pretty and soothing, but I have to go with an old favorite. I won't be especially disappointed if Run Away with Me doesn't win this one, though.
Sensitive Heart - Lunatic Princess (Imperishable Night) vs JigginJonT - The Flood Plain OC (F-Zero) - I have a soft spot for piano music.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki FC & SC Super Arrange Version - I swear... Instrumental Ver. (The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki) vs Sensitive Heart - Scarlet Destiny (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil) - If this contest was decided entirely by which track has the longest name, TLoHSnKFC&SCSAVISIVTLoHSnK would totally win.

Kidd Cabbage - Angelus Errare (Chrono Cross) vs The King Of Fighters '96 Arrange Soundtrack - Arashii no Saxophone 2 (The King of Fighters '96): Angelus Errare falls into the pittrap of superlong tracks; it's superlong for the sake of being superlong. A complete mess with no flow. Meanwhile, Arashii no Saxophone is FABULOUS~.

(The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki) vs Sensitive Heart - Scarlet Destiny (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil): While I Swear is one of those rare vocal tracks that works just as well in instrumental...Scarlet Destiny here is the surprise of this pool. Very, very nice. But I Swear is just too pretty, violin melts me as usual. Also, Lance: Actually the game's full title is slightly longer. >_>

Children of the Monkey, Machine, Steve Pordon - Silent Hill 2 StaticAversion OC ReMix (Silent Hill series) vs FFVI Piano Collection - Celes (Final Fantasy 6) - Nommed this as an example of the type of ambient music I like (and practically no one else does).  That said, Piano Collection Celes is certainly worthy of moving on, so no tears shed here.

Roetaka - Run Away with Me (Goldeneye 007) vs Stella Deus BGM ReArrange Album - Sky Ray (Stella Deus) - Sky Ray is surprisingly good, but I really like Roetaka's style.  Nice match.

Sensitive Heart - Lunatic Princess (Imperishable Night) vs JigginJonT - The Flood Plain OC (F-Zero) - Another nice match, I like both.  Flood Plain's got some problems, though - really long silence early on for no particular reason, and some fumbles on the playing that grate on my ears in... well, pretty much all of the fast sections.  And Sensitive Heart's is one of the comparatively few versions of Lunatic Princess I can stand.  So.

The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki FC & SC Super Arrange Version - I swear... Instrumental Ver. (The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki) vs Sensitive Heart - Scarlet Destiny (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil) - Decent but doesn't stand out to me vs decent and does.

Bound Together EB remixes - Santa is Dead (Earthbound) vs efs - Ryuunosuke Akutagawa's Kappa Arrange (Mountain of Faith) - One of the best Bound Together tracks.  Delicious.

Oddly enough, not the longest title in this thing.  That said, the guitars manage to be really nice without the lock step enforcement of instruments that Scarlet Destiny has, and which always feels like an oddly lazy way to enforce melody.

Creid was an erratic album, and Melkaba is likely the best of it.  This Ducktales remix is better than last pod's, though.

Very close.  Both are decent, though the bit in Scarlet Destiny where it randomly lapses into a James Bond theme is weird.  Uh, coin flip, but TLoHSnKFC&SCSAVIsIV(TLofHSnK) is a bit sappy, so guess I'll go with Scarlet Destiny.

Blake Perdue - Into Your Kamikaze (Star Ocean 2) vs The Black Mages - Maybe I'm A Lion (Final Fantasy 8)- I don't even remember the in game version of maybe I'm a lion. I'll have to listen to that.  And snowfire: It's remixing the SO2 world map theme. Took me a while to pick up on it as well.  As for the fight? Yeah, the black mages song has nice driving energy. I really like the SO2 remix but it goes on way too long.

-- Melkaba isn't the best track on Creid, and the Ducktales remix was actually pretty good.  I'll go with it here.

-- This is how you do an instrumental version of a vocal song.  If it's not clear, the answer's not "just take out the vocals and leave everything else the same".  Scarlet Destiny is pretty good, too, though.

Melkaba vs Moondust - Right... Melkaba is inferior to the original version, but Moondust takes its original in completely the wrong direction. There's something about Moondust that really gets on my goat but I can't think of what it is.
Into Your Kamikaze vs Maybe I'm A Lion - There I was just thinking to myself "Self, I have nowhere near enough mediocrity in my life". What amazing luck for this pair to show up and fix this dire calamity. Die next round, Lion.
Angelus Errare vs Arashii no Saxophone 2 - Hm... Angelus certainly isn't BAD per se, its only downpoint is that it's long which in real life is a complete non-issue since you don't normally only play one track and then quit listening to music for several hours or anything similarly contrived. Saxophone is decent but gets a tad repetitive. I'm giving it to Angelus here because the ludicrousness points it gains for its length just push it over the top.
Static Aversion vs Celes - On the basis of the available evidence, I have no choice but to conclude that Silent Hill 2 fans have no taste in music whatsoever, and may in fact not even know the definition of the term. Celes is inferior to the original but that's nowhere near enough to sink it here.
Run Away with Me vs Sky Ray - Considerably more beautiful than Run Away.
Lunatic Princess vs The Flood Plain - Flood Plain starts to grate after a while. Lunatic Princess does not.
I swear... Instrumental Ver. vs Scarlet Destiny - Scarlet is very good and energetic. But Swear approaches beauty.
Santa is Dead vs Ryuunosuke Akutagawa's Kappa Arrange - The voice is a bit off, but it goes to the right places, if you know what I mean. Santa's got nuthin'.
