Speaking of angela, I'm not much of a fan of the show, but I love "Shangri-La", from Fafner:

Can't believe I forgot about GitS:SAC.

And I liked the Menchi theme. It was one of the few things I liked about the show.

Otaku no Video: Tatakae! OTAKING
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRs2EKWQZds
This song begs to be sung out loud.

The two ending songs are hilarious, but I can't find any videos on youtube.

The best opening song to any anime ever is "XTC" from Witchblade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N-5RarrDH8

Ehhh, I wouldn't go that far. I'd say it was one of the few things about Witchblade that didn't suck, though! (Now, the second half's OP? That was dreadful).

Hey Tonfa, when the game remix tournament is over, maybe we should have an anime music tournament.

I was actually thinking about this myself. (About someone else doing it of course. Not me!)

Hey Tonfa, when the game remix tournament is over, maybe we should have an anime music tournament.

Haha. Maybe a contest for springtime?! But I know I won't be organizing it. >_>

To contribute off the top of my head:

Naruto Shippuuden OP 1 - Hero's Come Back. Impossibly infectious.

Rose of Versailles OP. A classic. Sadly I'm unable to find a subbed version.

And EDs.

Azumanga Daioh ED - Raspberry Heaven. Never fails to completely melt me into a puddle of fuzzy, warm feelings.

.hack//SIGN ED - Yasashii Yoake. Just a really beautiful song.

Seconding hype for Dragon Half's ED, Azumanga Daioh's OP and Naruto's 4th OP.
<Niu> If I ever see that Langfadood, i'll strangle him on sight
<Gourry> What, for making the game three times better?
<Gourry> And playable, at that?
<Niu> that lose the whole point of of L2!!!

Time for some 80's love! With some of the most 80's OPs I can muster, the Kimagure Orange Road OPs!

OP 1- 80'S FACTOR HIGH! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puau9f89moU&feature=related

OP 2- 80'S FACTOR THROUGH THE ROOF!- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj-23d82gU0&feature=related

OP 3- Not so much, but my personal favorite- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcMbw67zyD8&feature=related

ED 2 for good measure on the 80's! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfOp2hGvbvY&feature=related

No, the show is not by Rumiko Takahashi, but they did use the same character designer as they used in all her anime adaptations.

"Hey Mama!" Yeah, that song is terrible. Something about XTC has always entranced me, though. It's probably the electric guitar.

Quite a response to this topic!  Anyway, more goodies...

Narutaru:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIF5BLyh3Mk
Wins the award for 'most cheerful despite gloomy content of show'

Naruto OP 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwsTZh-rpOE
Which is by far the best Naruto opening.  Don't know what you OP 4 fans are on about.

Fruits Basket:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iq37xdXtLc
Because it never fails to make me want green tea and chocolates.  And that can't be a bad thing, right?  The fact that I prmarily watched Fruits Basket starting at 5am after all-nighters may also have something to do for the caffeine craving...

Mahou Tsukai Tai:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe0BxDMmv3k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEHfr4nmjGo&feature=related
Two worthy contenders for 'most relentlessly cheerful' and a pair of funny videos to boot!

Mahoujin Guruguru:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TjRM5vh4fQ
In case you're an anime-opening-hipster and need to be into the obscure to be cool.

Hunter x Hunter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_nZoQeE76Q
Because a man secure enough in his sexuality to sing falsetto is a wonderful thing.

Hime-chan's Ribbon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rvN-v8F46Q
Just because?

Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkLBPKf7mT8
Because racism isn't cool, but dancing palm trees clearly are.

Kekkaishi:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG24cHNvRqw
Yeah, ran out of reasons a couple links ago.

Kodocha:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE1nGCtDlww
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8vqXidVdZ4&feature=related
But THIS should need no explaination!!

Tenjou Tenge:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YUWD4BZ81Y
Never seen the show, but I came across this a bit ago, and clearly I've been missing out.

And of course, the greatest ending song ever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KCy1q7MWAQ

Thanks!  Totally overlooked that gem!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_BxHEvuA2M

YOU GET TO BURNING is still seared into my psyche.

But in a good way, right?

...right?

On an aside, Azumanga Daioh's is just addictive or something. Or maybe I'm just broken: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huWKSYUX5Fs&feature=related

No, it totally is.

Bubble Gum Crisis Tokyo 2040 - Y'Know

Slayers Next - Give a Reason

Stellvia of the Universe - Asu e no Brilliant Road

Haven't heard the others, but yeah.  good stuff.  BGC 2040's opening is addictive, which is odd because neither the song nor the video are, strictly speaking, any good.  Unlike Give a Reason, which is probably the best song Megumi Hayashibara ever sang.  Stellvia's song is nice but...video could have stood to have been something more than clips from the first episode.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHk2Yk6C81M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oayXglsMryQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEIaFMJIkaE

DUUUUUUUUUUUH. Can't believe we forgot this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUjqlVt6y2A

Yes!  Thank you for posting it.

Also: yay shoujo of the late '70s.  The Rose of Versailles opening is, incidentally, one of those things every Japanese woman of a certain age knows.

Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

Seconding Hare+Guu hype. Warning you that Tenjou Tenge's opening is probably its best feature (though I hear the manga has its good points).

Chiming in that while I love Give a Reason the most, there's a few other Hayashibara songs that are pretty fun - I liked her stuff on Blue Seed, Bakuretsu Hunters, and Lost Universe, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIGQWXKVdUM (Touch & Go)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkTTSwy2TTM&feature=related (From what I understand, 'MASK' is a duet with Hayashibara and Masami Okui?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7qDvgo5iTY (Infinity)

As for the Stellvia video... yeah, I had wanted to say that, too. The animation is trash, but at least the song is fun.

Tossing this in, cause it wasn't here yet. Utena ED. I like this song better than the OP, and even the simple animation for it has stuck with me more than the OP has.

BGC 2040's ED was far superior to the OP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDdWs7FJ5_c

ANOTHER FORGOTTEN CLASSIC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uJWDdNEirg

I dislike Kekkaishi's OP because it gives away one of the better manga moments, which was Tokine developing her spear kekkai. It's fine otherwise, but I like the slow ballad that is it's first ED. You ever finish the series, Jim?

(Insert Tokine <3 here)

Admittedly, I left a whole lot of these out because I thought we were looking for different songs than the norm. I just kinda discounted all the J-Pop and generic OP type stuff. Narutaru is a good example though, since it's COMPLETELY not indicative of what the show holds. I have to say though, Shippuden OP 1 > Naruto OP 2.

Mentioning Utena and Rose of Versailles and women of a certain age, interestingly enough, one of the guys I worked with at CPM, his wife was in the old Utena musical. I think she played Juri.

I found some links for some of the recommendations before:

Here's the opening for Record of Lodoss War TV by Maaya Sakamoto.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PLUD7gEqTA

Vandread's opening:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN9TD_Txy2k

Kannazuki no Miko op and ed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGBbJJKVM78
(The series was fairly horrible except for Ep 8 (I think) and the last 2 episodes which were awesome).

New contributions:

Chrno Crusade ED:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYs0VWd60cE

I love the new Clannad After Story OP. Yay for Lia.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFc8nFFSJcY

I am also fond of all the .hack Liminality OPs even though I never watched past ep 4 of .hack/SIGN.

While Shippuden's first op kicks all kinds of ass, Asian Kung-fu Generation hype is welcome. Thus, Fullmetal Alchemist op Rewrite.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Sj8oF_HYmE
Oban Star Racers ED. Really pretty song. It may be partly a French production, but I don't think anyone will complain.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC2zykW8tZY
GA-GA-GA GA-GA-GA GAOGAIGAR!!! Final, to be specific, my personal fav. version.

Lucky Star. It will melt your mind. Be warned.

EDIT: I keep finding stuff from my Maaya Sakamoto singles collection CD here >_< Platinum, Yakusoku Wa Iranai, Kiseki No Umi...

Yeah. I tried to avoid that. Trying to lean towards different, iconic or exceptional songs or openings.

Lucky Star sucks. People need to realize this.

Vandread's first OP is pretty good, but I prefer Justice as an opening since it's more stylish, even if Trust is a better song.

Can't believe I forgot Record of Lodoss Wars TV's OP though. Definately deserves a spot here.

Hayashibara's stuff is good, probably defines the sound of '90s anime, for that matter, but does every song have to have 2 eight-note pickups?  Give a Reason does it, Infinity does it, and so does a lot of her other stuff.  Guess it just wasn't meant to be listened to all at once <_<.

And...I must say I hate the first Utena ending.  Just bugs the hell out of me.  Probably wouldn't if the video were less annoying to me.  (I'm not a fan of the 'rotating object' school of ending videos.  I much prefer the 'slow pan'.)

BGC 2040's ED was far superior to the OP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDdWs7FJ5_c

BGC 2040's ending hurts my neck to look at.  Nice song, though.

No, never finished watching the Kekkaishi anime.  It's one of those series where I'm thinking the manga hasn't progressed enough for the anime to be 'done cookin.'  I just really like the opening, and for a very simple reason: you think it's gonna be in minor, it's in major, and they make that work (along with a nice video, even if it does spoil the spear thing).  Sappy?  Absolutely.  But with a lot of these openings, sappy is the name of the game.

I dunno, I do feel I like a lot of the openings I mentioned because they do just one little thing that sets them apart.  I never intended to close out more traditional stuff, as long as it's good.  I DID put Full Moon wo Sagashite in my initial post, and that's a freaking show about j-pop.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdERUrLvIW4
Lucky Star. It will melt your mind. Be warned.
Ew.

The Oban Star racers ending was really cool, tho.

But still?  Ew.

I also like how it appears to be just everyone listing every anime they can think of.

What can I say?  I'm an anime opening polygamist.  I have big love.

I will maintain, however, that men singing in falsetto is cool, though it probably wouldn't be if the video weren't so dark and lazily paced.  More specifically, heading from a regular singing range into falsetto and still nailing it?  Badass.

Agreed. The OP is shameless, manipulative cheese (just like the show!), but I can't help but like it (unlike the show!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe7kMlgCqLw
This. Not enough good things to be said for Cromartie. The fact that the opening isn't too exaggerated towards how the show itself is stands as a testament to the win it has.

Really liked the Baccano OP as well, and reinforces the need I have to go watch it sometime. I probably know someone who has it, so I should just go get it -.-

Lucky Star... honestly? Haven't seen it. However, the OP is fun for pointing people too when you want to do some brain breaking.

Anyways, posted everything I'm really into that I could think of, so maybe I will comment on notMiki's flood sometime.

Falsetto can be totally awesome if it is done right.  A few of my favourite rock musicians are pretty much purely guys singing in Falsetto.  It normally takes a self awareness of how silly it is to not be totally serious or to be the Flaming Lips though.

Naruto OP 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwsTZh-rpOE
Which is by far the best Naruto opening.  Don't know what you OP 4 fans are on about.

I do like OP 2, because the singer TRIES SO HARD!  My wife hates that one though.
