I had mentioned mine once in chat, but didn't expect anyone to remember it.  The clue is that I'm the only one old enough for a computer to be such a novelty as to bother naming it.

And in more trivia, "Sherm" was the name of Murdoch's pet lobster in the A-Team.  I love it when a plan comes together.

Man, if you hook your PC up to a network you have to name it and generally during Windows installation you do anyway and most people just tend to forget entirely.

Actually I know what my computer's named, and reference it quasi-often in chat. (Bing, bing, bing...)

But yeah, I think.... yeah, like MC it came down to you and one other person (I think Sopko?)

Despite using and owning a computer during the period CapK mentioned where it was a novelty (Whee 286es with green screen CRT monitors running MS-DOS!), I've never named my computer.

Hah. I had an old MS-DOS box as well, too, but it was on the far later end, pretty much right before Windows 3.0/3.1.

...Man, I kinda miss Windows 3.1.

Mm. My Dad still has some old Altairs he built. He was also in San Fran for the computer convention that Jobs unveiled the MacIntosh. The ol' 286 was just the first one I was old enough to actually use.

My first was a Windows 95, but I had used a bunch of Macs and a Win 3.1 before that. (Grandparents had the 3.1, elementary school had a computer lab of Power Macs)

I've actually got my computer named Odin, Good times :)

I was raised on green&black-screen 8086s, and have had plenty of computers named (my parents named home computers after our pets--"Bouncer", "Walkies", "Daisy".  I believe the most recent computer that Laggy set up for me a month or two ago is called "Reisen"; it's either that or "Reimu").

My brother-in-law has built my last two computers, so he's named them.

This one is "Billy-PC" and my last one was "NOT-HP-COMP", because Jesus Christ, Hewlett Packard is a terrible fucking company.

Then share it with the class?
Mmmm...alright, though I've heard there can be insurance implications for some of this stuff, so this probably shouldn't show up under a Google search.  The bulletin forum seems to be private; I'll stick it under there.

Oh, sec, I'll PM you the current state of the topic.  (I'm actually trying to be as open as reasonable here just...also trying to have it not show up on a google search from employers/insurace companies).

Mine is named Calculando. If Lando Calrissian used his Space Playboy powers to seduce a calculator, you'd end up with what I've got.

Had to agree with this. From my HP laptop. Who, at two years old, has a new motherboard, new heat sink, new battery, new harddrive and a new screen (okay, that one was my fault) all replaced as faulty. Over 3 months of my computer's life spent in HP offices or transit, being fixed. ;_;

Anyway. My computer is Jackdaw. My previous laptop was named Rook.

I may be a bit of a corvidophile.

<_<

Didn't participate in the game for obvious reasons. I wouldn't have gotten any of those right.

I named my computer "Nothing because it's pointless to name computers."

NBIPTNC for short in case I ever need to play with network settings.

I wonder who got my clue, other than me. I tried making it something that was atleast possible to answer. I remember taking about taking Epival and having epilepsy in a topic about drugs, which reminded me of the time that I went skydiving at the age of 14, and indeed, had a seizure on the plane.

According to the crew, it was one of the most frightening situations they had ever faced in their life. ;p
