Citan > Eirika

Eirika knew how speed games work. She used them often enough herself, afterall. You're enough faster then you're opponent, and suddenly you get to attack them twice for every one of their hits. And that is exactly the side of the speed equation that Eirika prefers to be one. SHE is the one with the insane speed. SHE is the one who gets to double. Not her opponent.

But after watching some videos of Citan's old matches, she knew very well which side of the speed equation she was going to end up on this time. And not only that, but those counters! Citan had counterattacks that would make Fire Emblem characters jealous! The princess was a bit surprised she didn't hear more talk about those, but such a thing must surely be small up herein Godlike. So even though Fire Emblem characters can be revived here...dying still hurts. Is there any real surprise she just decided to throw in the towel?

Bart leveled an unbelieving stare at the good(?) doctor, "So let me get this straight. You doctored your own old fight videos to make her think you could counterattack too?"

Citan simply sipped his tea and nodded.

"And somehow that actually WORKED!? How!?"

The doctor chuckled, "It wasn't a sure thing, but it also wasn't the only precaution I took. As for how," taking another sip of his tea, he smiled, "do you really expect me to start spilling my secrets now?"

Yuri > Tibarn

"I've got to admit, you're pretty damn impressive for a Beorc." Tibarn considered his opponent and his options, taking time to make sure he made exactly the right move.

Yuri laughed, "Hey man, I've got the best of both worlds going on. Turn into some kind of all powerful beast? Got that...well, demon in my case, but you get the idea. Then I can use magic while in that form. Don't really believe in limiting my options, you know?" Looking down at the board, he shrugged, "Come on, you gonna move or not?"

"Sure thing." Moving a piece on the board, the Hawk King smiled, "Check. And yeah, I can see how that's good if you can do it. Just not the way things work where I'm from. Well, some of the crows have a very limited magic, but it's nothing to write home about."

Moving to protect his king, Yuri grumbled, "Man, how much longer until we get the arena?"

"Another ten minutes. Trust me, I've been watching the clock like a hawk."

Snorting at the lame joke, Yuri fired back, "That eager to lose, huh? Come on, you know you're not in my league."

Making another move, Tibarn just grinned, "Says the man who's three pieces down and by the way, back in check."

"Yeah, except we won't be playing chess in there."

"So you really don't think I can beat you, then?"

Yuri just laughed, "Come on, man. You're good and all, but I can keep myself going forever and just pick you off with magic at range. I get too close to death, boom, back to Amon and heal. I don't need to heal, I get some damage in. Your dodging game is good, but I've got a better defense and my offense is just as good as yours." Moving his king out of the way, he added, "Your go."

Without hesitation, Tibarn moved again, "Check. And you might think you've got it all worked out, but once we're in there I could always outsmart you. I'm managing it out here afterall."

"Hey, I thought you Laguz didn't care about stuff like tactics. Where'd you get a head for it?" Another piece moves, "Back to you."

"Most of us don't, no. But as a king, I need to not only be stronger then my subjects, but smart enough to lead them properly as well. And to be honest, there's a reason we don't use much strategy when we fight. Also, check."

Moving his king yet again, Yuri was admittedly curious, "What's that? And your move."

The Hawk King slid another piece into place as he explained, "Simple. Because of our strength, we almost always have the advantage in a straight up open conflict. And it's usually a whole lot easier to force one of those then trying to set up any complex tactics. In a sense, forcing direct confrontations IS our strategy. Most Beorc want to avoid that unless they have enough overwhelming force that tactics don't actually matter." Then he grinned widely, "Also, checkmate."

"What?" Looking down at the board, Yuri groaned, "Dammit. Alright, you took that one. Man, I never figured a straight up bruiser like you would be good at this stuff."

Standing up, Tibarn shrugged, "In fairness, it's not like I'm beating an expert here. I haven't even managed to beat Ike at this yet, and he doesn't even like the game. Anyway, it's almost time. You ready?"

Yuri just walked towards the door, "Let's do it."

What, the actual fight? Oh, it went down pretty much exactly as Yuri said it would. There were a couple of tense moments, but overall the conversation in the waiting room was alot more interesting, so you got that instead.

Zero > Reno

The match was over in an instant. As soon as the bell was rung, Reno flipped up his rod and shot out a bullet of light to catch his opponent in the deadly pyramid.

Zero, also wasting no time, drew his...shield? Yeah, he pulled out a shield, held it in front of his face and smirked as the bullet of light bounced straight back, trapping a very confused Reno inside his own dirtiest trick.

Sighing, the Turk tapped the inside of his prison, "Hey, uh, I might be going out on a limb here but I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to be able to do that."

Putting his shield up, Zero walked over to his trapped opponent, "Nah, I cleared it with the judges already. It's completely in the green."

"...how'd you pull that one off?"

"Bribes, flattery, convincing them that they really don't like you, the usual. Wasn't hard, the panel's nothing but PCs this time."

Cupping his forehead in one hand, Reno sighed, "A Turk on the wrong end of a dirty deal. Man, what's next, Peach kidnapping Bowser? Tch..."

Frank > Duessel

The battle had worn on, and now the chips were all down.

Duessel, the great general of Grado, was battered, bloody and tired, but he was still in the saddle.

Frank, the American ninja, was unsteady on his feet and had long since run out of quips to make, but he was still holding his weapon.

Deciding to take a last desperate grasp at victory, Frank began making his ninja hand signs, conjuring up the most potent ninjutsu he could muster.

Knowing that this could be the end, Duessel leveled his axe at the old ninja and urged his mount into a charge.

...and that's when Duessel's horse violently exploded.

Nobody is really sure why or how it happened. And considering the location of the horse, it's not much of a surprise that the all male judging panel and the mostly male audience all feinted dead away at the thought of such a thing, leaving no one to contest Frank's victory.

Not that anyone really would have anyway. I mean, just in case it actually was Frank who did that...well, you just don't go around ticking off a guy who might be able to do something like THAT. At least not in Light...
