What's the farthest north you've been? The farthest south? The farthest east? The farthest west?

North: Ullapool. South: Austin, Texas. East: Edinburgh West: Pacifica

When was the first time you flew in an airplane? Was it by yourself?

2006, so I was 22. It was by myself and I was scared shitless. It didn't help that it was a windy day and the plane shook.  A very nice lady held my hand while we landed.

Do you prefer flying or travelling for a long distance vacation?

Flying. It's a pain in the ass, but driving 15 hours is no better.

do you read up about cultures/the area before you visit?

If I'm going to a spot I'm vacationing in, definitely. If it's just DLC, no. It isn't like we get out and see much there.

Do you plan your trips in detail, or tend to leave things more open ended?

Open ended.

What's the longest you've been away from home on a vacation?

Three weeks, for my Scotland trip earlier this spring.

Are you planning on doing any travelling this summer?

DLC, back to San Fran. Pacifica is cool, so it'll be nice to go back there.

Top (Up to five) cities you've been to:
1. San Francisco
2. Chicago
3. Washington, D.C.
4. Seattle
5. Las Vegas

Top five locations you'd like to visit in your lifetime:
1. London
2. Costa Rica
3. Japan (I'm not picky)
4. Galapagos Islands
5. Marrakech
(Note that this list changes, and changes order, ALL THE TIME.)

Top (Up to five) sites/locations/vista you've visited:
1. Yosemite National Park
2. Muir Woods
3. Chicago ("city tour" via shoreline boat)
4. Moab, Utah (Arches National Park)
5. Two Dot, Montana

What's the farthest north you've been? The farthest south? The farthest east? The farthest west?
North: San Juan Islands, Washington
South: Nassau
East: Yonkers, NY
West: San Francisco

When was the first time you flew in an airplane? Was it by yourself?
Probably when I was an infant. I don't imagine I was alone. <_< First time flying alone was ... 15, I think.

Do you prefer flying or travelling for a long distance vacation?
If I have the time, I infinitely prefer driving. I love planes, but road trips are awesome.

Do you read up about cultures/the area before you visit?
Not generally, but then I've traveled only within the States so far. Traveling internationally, it is of a necessity -- reading about it is likely what drove me there in the first place.

Do you plan your trips in detail, or tend to leave things more open ended?
Short trips are detailed, long ones are free form. I prefer free form, but I don't like to "miss" things because I don't want to "waste" time revisiting somewhere just because I missed the "must do" last time.

What's the longest you've been away from home on a vacation?
3 weeks or so. Road trip with my mom to visit the cousin in Two Dot, Montana; the relatives in South Dakota; hit Yellowstone, Arches and Yosemite National Parks; and spend some time together.

Are you planning on doing any travelling this summer?
Not really, but I'd love to. :( Maybe this fall!

Top (Up to five) cities you've been to:

- San Fran/Bay Area
- Boston
- Austin I guess?  Not much stands out in the way of nice cities.

Top five locations you'd like to visit in your lifetime:

- The British Isles in general
- Germany
- Korea/Japan
- British Columbia
- Australia

Top (Up to five) sites/locations/vista you've visited:

- Crater Lake, Oregon
- Pacifica coast and the SF BART tunnels
- Enchanted Rock
- The Big Bend/Carlsbad area (lots of things there)

What's the farthest north you've been? The farthest south? The farthest east? The farthest west?

North Dakota, Brownsville, Boston coast, Pacifica coast.  I've actually never left the 48 states but been all over inside them.

When was the first time you flew in an airplane? Was it by yourself?

In general?  Dad used to fly small Cessnas and took the kids up now and then when we were little, earliest one I remember I was maybe five or six.  On a commercial jet?  Going to Science Olympiad nationals in Michigan in 7th grade.  I think the only time I've ever flown -alone- was a short jaunt from Pennsylvania to New York to visit a grandmother there.

Do you prefer flying or travelling for a long distance vacation?

FLYING.
NEVER AGAIN.  (in reference to my former habit of crazy road trips)

Do you read up about cultures/the area before you visit?

Not really?  I suppose I would if I ever went anywhere as a real vacation.

Do you plan your trips in detail, or tend to leave things more open ended?

Open ended.

What's the longest you've been away from home on a vacation?

Three months or so on an excruciating involuntary family trek through the west.

Are you planning on doing any travelling this summer?

DLCon.  Otherwise no.

I'm not really a travel-happy person.

None of these are in any particular order. All of these only count things I was old enough to remember, my parents did some travelling when I was an infant which could change some of the technical answers. Also I will probably forget things.

Top (Up to five) cities you've been to:
London, Prague, Paris, Edinburgh, New York

Top five locations you'd like to visit in your lifetime: (that I haven't yet, right?)
Rome, Grand Canyon, New Zealand, the Arctic, the Himalayas

Top (Up to five) sites/locations/vista you've visited:
Ayer's Rock and surrounding areas, Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, west coast of Vancouver Island, Lake District

What's the farthest north you've been? The farthest south? The farthest east? The farthest west?
N: Scottish Highlands (don't remember a specific location, north of Inverness though).
S: Southern Queensland (technically Sydney Airport but whatever)
E: Budapest, Hungary
W: The Olgas, Australia (narrowly edging out Hiroshima; thanks Wikipedia!)

When was the first time you flew in an airplane? Was it by yourself?
First time I can recall was when I was 5, though I must have flown a few times from age 0-3. I'll let you guess if these were by myself or not. First time I can recall flying by myself was for a school trip to Halifax when I was 16; there was some reason I had to leave on a different flight from my friends but I don't recall what it was.

Do you prefer flying or travelling for a long distance vacation?
Generally, flying. Driving for that long gets tiring.

Do you read up about cultures/the area before you visit?
Nope.

Do you plan your trips in detail, or tend to leave things more open ended?
The latter, beyond things like start and end dates.

What's the longest you've been away from home on a vacation?
Two months (all summer when I was 10, went to Europe).

Are you planning on doing any travelling this summer?
Not besides DLCon. :(

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

Top (Up to five) cities you've been to:

1. Paris
2. Berlin
3. Munchen/Munich
4. Dublin
5. London

Top five locations you'd like to visit in your lifetime:

1. Japan (whole country)
2. Ireland outside of Dublin
3. Eastern Europe (Czech republic, Poland, Romania, etc.)
4. Italy
5. Scandinavia

As an aside, anyone putting London on their lists but not Berlin or Munich has their priorities all muddled up.

Top (Up to five) sites/locations/vista you've visited:

1. The Palace at Versailles.  Oh my GOD it's made of GOLD and the garden is LARGER than most FORESTS.
2. The English Gardens in Munich.  Gorgeous, large park, wonderful to spend an afternoon biking through.
3. Paris seen from any of the above-it-all tourist destinations.  Champs D'Elyses, Eiffel Tower, hill of the Sacre Coeur... doesn't matter.  Paris is fucking beautiful.
4. The Sandia Crests.  Yes, a place near Albuquerque.  The view from here is only rivaled by the previous view, IMO.
5. I refuse to pick.  London in general, Berlin in general, the canals and parks of Amsterdam, the port you leave to take the ferry from Ireland to France, a small hamlet called Hexham in England...

What's the farthest north you've been? The farthest south? The farthest east? The farthest west?

Not going to bother to look them up, but I'd imagine...
N: Chester's Fort, UK
S: Encenada, Mexico
E: Berlin
W: Catalina Island

When was the first time you flew in an airplane? Was it by yourself?

DLC2, yes.

Do you prefer flying or driving for a long distance vacation?

Flying.  Factoring in gas and time, it manages to be cheaper so long as you plan in advance.

Do you read up about cultures/the area before you visit?

Not really.

Do you plan your trips in detail, or tend to leave things more open ended?

Hah.  Not at all.  Wing it and hope for the best, this is the way.

What's the longest you've been away from home on a vacation?

4 months, Europe.

Are you planning on doing any travelling this summer?

Maybe for interviews.

Top five locations you'd like to visit in your lifetime:  Vancouver, New York, Wales, Berlin, Dusseldorf.
Top (Up to five) sites/locations/vista you've visited:  New York is still pretty rad 10/10 would do again, UBC was cool to wander around, Fremantle Prison I guess even though I went there for work, Brisbane GOMA?  Brisbane QPAC?  I don't do much stuff like that.
What's the farthest north you've been? The farthest south? The farthest east? The farthest west?  N Vancouver, S Sydney, E New York/Somewhere in Jersey (vague on the geography), W New York?  Moreton Island?  Perth?  Not sure how to determine this.

Do you prefer flying or driving for a long distance vacation?  Flying if it is going to take more than a day or two.  Flying if it is boring (North Queensland zzzzzzzzz)
Do you read up about cultures/the area before you visit?  American culture needing to be read up on lawl (20 years of your media is more than enough).
Do you plan your trips in detail, or tend to leave things more open ended?  I don't plan anything.  I don't do tourist stuff much anyway.  I travel to see people, not things.
What's the longest you've been away from home on a vacation?  About a month.

Flying. Fun times.

Do you read up about cultures/the area before you visit?

Not particularly, since I haven't been out of the country.

Open-ended plan. Rough idea of what I want to do and when, but not how much time to spend or what to do in between.

What's the longest you've been away from home on a vacation?

2 weeks, about?

Are you planning on doing any travelling this summer?
