The only range 3 weapon (Longbow) in FE8 has such paltry might that it is nearly impossible to kill Lyon with it. I don't give Natalia's range that much credit; seems a clear case of FE range 2, compared to the range 1 physicals of the other PCs.

Natalia also really needs this range interp to win, because even her MA isn't close to killing Lyon unless you have extreme disrespect for his durability. It'd be one thing if it could be doubled, but it can't be for the same reason a 1-use weapon can't be doubled.

IIRC Mystic Artes can be used after a combo that ends with an Arcane or High Level Fonic Arte.  So Natalia's full chain is doing about double average damage (assuming the LEAST generous of the averages), which I can easily see offing Lyon.

(Also you can argue the rest of the chain gets doubled but not the MA, though that's kind of shaky.  You can double with Brave weapons even if you don't have two charges left which is kinda similar.)

EDIT: Oh yeah and Natalia has Sharpness to add onto the damage, too.

Even if you don't allow Natalia's range to overcome Lyon's... then the Taunting option still works. Lyon comes from a game with movement. Natalia comes from a game with movement. Lyon can't move.

Even if you start them both out in range of eachother for attacking, Natalia goes first. She uses that first turn to move out of Lyon's range and Taunt. When she has the MA (and Sharpness if necessary), she moves in, full-combo->MA, Lyon dead.

Again, Lyon is weird.

I'm only considering things in the match I don't consider completely ridiculous. Natalia is an archer. Archers in the game get hit by Lyon. In addition, I can't see thinking the Tales battlefield as especially large although that is just me I guess. I guess it depends on how durable you see Lyon in Tal's case though; I find him pretty durable but a lot of people scale him differently.

Iirc, in TotA you can target an enemy anywhere on the field with magic from anywhere on the feild. Don't think I buy her being able to get out of his range, if that's the case.

Not to mention that, outside manual mode, Natalia -actually automatically walks towards the targets if they're too far away to be reasonably hit by arrows before shooting-. On Manual, she shoots from where she stands, no aiming whatsoever involved, but even then, see Gate on magic range+TotA's field just isn't really huge at all.

Taking that view, though, nearly all Tales magic was evadable...and since Lyon's is in-game, you can argue Natalia runs away from it and evades it with free run.

Except when she gets countered with it, since she's bound to have some recovery time from using her attacks.

Or she fires a single arrow, which has little lag, and does this until he dies.

Natalia needs artes to even break Lyon's defense as far as I'm concerned.
