Rupert Danridge (XF) vs Dark Force (PS2): Should get off one rather nasty Maximum Risk in addition to what he does at full health. That's probably enough to kill, Maximum Risk is batshit. To make matters worse he may well 3-2.

Middle:

Guy Cecil (TotA) vs  Meganium (PKMN): Probably? Barrier puts Guy on the 5-6HKO border, which is problematic for him even with the speed. His best bet may be to try to stall for an overlimit but kneejerk is not to respect that. This is so weird, I'm fairly certain Meganium is the worst grass starter in a duel and yet he's having the most success.

Light:

Futch (Suikos) vs Kain Highwind (FF4): Open to arguments.

Guy Cecil (TotA) vs  Meganium (PKMN) - Guy's pretty terrible against the stalling. Wouldn't be surprised if Meganium 3HKOed him either, his general durability spread is poor - which means he's so not getting to an Overlimit. It's the only way he can hit weakness and he kinda can't get it.

Light:

Orlha (CC) vs Amy Sage (PS2) - Eh. More inclined to give credit to Orlha here, particularly given she has far better offense than Natan.
Futch (Suikos) vs Kain Highwind (FF4) - Huh, 41% raw evade with going for AP+Repel? Adjust a bit for 25% effective, Futch has no use for Wizard's Hat+Lightning Magic... both are very similar at durability and damage off the cusp, but Futch has some dodge while Kain... not really. Yeah, this is enough for me to vote Futch. If you allow defending, of course, this is a complete slaughter and Kain is a Puny.

Guy Cecil (TotA) vs  Meganium (PKMN) - Yay allowing full gauges of everything for everyone, I guess. Razing Phoenix is just enough here.

Light:

Orlha (CC) vs Amy Sage (PS2) - Defensive whoring!
Futch (Suikos) vs Kain Highwind (FF4) - Think the Jumping with Abel's Lance is just enough here to avoid instant death.

Guy can hit a weakness with Severing Wind if you consider Wind->Flying type. And then he'll (eventually) be able to use Dragon Tempest. Maybe if he uses Center a lot? He's probably not running out of ALL of TP.

Severing Wind would be like a 1/4 of Guy's overall offense (combos into averages and all that jazz) and would probably reduce him to a 4HKO before weakness, so it doesn't really help him with the fact he's not dealing much damage after Barrier. The only truly relevant attack for weakness-hitting here would be the Overlimit, which is actually appreciable damage.

Futch v Kain  - Gets healing in After Years and also gets a significant boost in the healing properties with the Blood Spear when he gets his Dragoon Gauntlets. I don't see him losing to Futch. Kain can take a hit, and also negates Futch's piss poor magical damage anyways and can heal away any damage Futch does land on him.

Guy Cecil (TotA) vs  Meganium (PKMN): GROWL SPAM. I really doubt TotA characters can overlimit in 10 turns (the upper limit of what I see Guy getting here before he's at -6 attack) so even an overlimit shouldn't save him.

Light:

Futch (Suikos) vs Kain Highwind (FF4): FF4DS Kain scrapes a 2HKO to average with jump and doesn't lose any physical durability. Should be enough to handle futch, even with defending allowed.

IIRC, 10 turns is basically exactly when TotA PCs should be getting Overlimits.


Also, After Years Kain-hype sounds intriguing. But aren't there other dragoons competing for his weapon/armor in TYA or something?

Yeah, GROWL kinda destroyed the last vestige of a Guy argument to me.

For the record, Guy's overlimit damage, including the combo, is only a low OHKO. Which means it doesn't OHKO Meganium, before the damage-halving Reflect and the Growl stacking which reduces damage by 75% at max (so after it's all set up Meganium is taking 1/8 normal damage on top of his high defence). Meganium's pretty good at tanking Middles who lack status or a way to outresource him.

Ah, didn't notice it was fire. No, now that it's fire, it does about 1.6 overkill. Which again, fails to OHKO Meganium after even just one Reflect, let alone the Growl spam which will take it down to something like 15-20% of Meganium's HP.

That's actually what I was sort-of trying.  Guy can get a full wind FoF by turn 4.  So I was seeing if he could chain into it with legal abilities.  He can't.  But even with his damage reduced Guy using Wind techs might do just enough damage to win.

Guy can get the Swordian Dymlos from Din's Shop if you count that as legal.

EDIT: After looking deep enough at it.  I do not believe Guy can win with my interps.

Guy attacks for roughly 50%
Mag Reflects.
Guy attacks for roughly 25%
Mag heals to 75%
Guy attacks for roughly 25%
Guy doubles and attacks again for 25%.
Mag heals to 75%
Guy attacks for roughly 25%
Mag Growls.
Guy attacks for about 17%  Guy is screwed.

No Dymlos can be made as much as you want.  There's only one Material Blade which is the other fire-element sword.


So, after going into a ridiculous number crunch.  It may, on the wings of angels, be possible for Guy to win.  By running Mag out of attacks charges by spamming Center and using overlimit.  But my money would be more on Guy running out of TP first.


If Guy can get his MA up at his 7th turn using void tempest>severing wind he can also take it.
