Sazh Katzroy (Final Fantasy XIII) vs Ho-Oh (Pokémon) Ho-Oh's rather large so Blitz hits more. Haste, Enwater, and Bravery ensure that he's doing a done of damage and the summon can help him if he needs it.


Middle

Lion (The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road) vs Lieselotte (Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) I think boss form might take this?
Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3) vs Tifa Lockheart (Final Fantasy VII)

Heavy

Sazh Katzroy (Final Fantasy XIII) vs Ho-Oh (Pokémon): Sets up a damage buff + elemental weakness then OHKOs, I think, and the setup part is fast enough that he gets his second turn faster.

Katsuya's phys damage isn't as good as the topic suggests due to him not getting a Legendary legally (thus Middle)... she should be able to block fire as well, so yeah. Outslugs.

Xorn (Grandia III) vs Lady (Shadow Hearts: From the New World) - One of the rare times where Xorn likes that I see him as not particularly fast but reasonably durable.
Archibald Grimes (Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2) vs Zack Fair (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)
No SRW but from the stat topic this sounds like Zack's fight, especially if you either allow auto-Barrier / MBarrier (and don't average the result away) or don't allow the auto-Barrier stuff.  Archibald can't OHKO without counters.  Zack just opens with Barrier (/ Wall) and heals until the DMW wins it for him.  The Barrier means that even if Archibald's 8% crit rate kicks in (ZOMG) Zack still keeps going.  Heck, if you allow guarding, as soon as Archibald misses Zack then starts spamming guard which also wins this for him.

...fail.  Think Ginny takes this with Gatling past a Limit hype.

Archibald's weapons have crit, so he has 23% with Swordbreaker. That said it doesn't matter as OG2 crits are just +25% damage unless you have some special crit-augmenting skill.

Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3) vs Tifa Lockheart (Final Fantasy VII): Tifa's L1s are very hard to avoid, and kill Virginia pretty badly.

Middle

Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3) vs Tifa Lockheart (Final Fantasy VII) - EDIT: After crunching numbers in chat, I have to give this to Tifa.  Ginny gets around the limit just fine!  She just can't kill fast enough, and Tifa gets a weapon that deals with the evasion just fine.  Spoiled hard.

Clarification: Tifa's L1 takes a total of about 39.8% of her max HP in damage to activate.  Ginny deals 15% damage to average, once you figure out the kill point.

Light

Pidgeot (Pokémon) vs Ellen (Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals) - I can get behind this.
Badrach (Valkyrie Profile) vs Luigi (Mario & Luigi Series) - Go go low light tanks?

Bowser's Inside Story gives Luigi some pretty good defensive options if you don't compare him and Mario to Bowser. He's immune to status with his armor and the siphon boots give him pretty solid regen with his good durability. He's not a bad light unless you factor Bowser into the averages.

Sazh Katzroy (Final Fantasy XIII) vs Ho-Oh (Pokémon) - Kneejerk. Buffs up and smites sounds right, even after factoring in the Burn possibility.

Ferham (Mega Man X: Command Mission) vs Aya Brea (Parasite Eve)- Mmm.  MMX bosses tend to fall in a handful of strong attacks, but it takes several turns to build up to those so my kneejerk is more in the 2x PC territory (SoA for example has a similar ballpark to me).  Between that and Ferham's freeze shenanigans, Aya feels out of her depth.
Oz (The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road) vs Nyarlathotep (Persona 2: Eternal Punishment)- Another great match.  Kneejerk more respect for Oz's offense, the two are similar in other catagories.
Xorn (Grandia III) vs Lady (Shadow Hearts: From the New World)- Kneejerk.  Man, this is a great match.
Archibald Grimes (Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2) vs Zack Fair (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)- His Ashsaber had Double Image, right?  that feels like enough to stress Zack's resources here.

Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3) vs Tifa Lockheart (Final Fantasy VII)- I'm not sold on "Tifa OHKOs with an L1", but "Tifa kills with her L1 after a GODHAND PAUNCH or two" makes sense to me.  Tifa's ludicrously low L1 threshhold keeps Ginny from a respectable gatling before that happens.

Archibald Grimes (Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2) vs Zack Fair (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)- His Ashsaber had Double Image, right?  that feels like enough to stress Zack's resources here.

Still can't comment on Archibald, but while I don't give Zack 0 MP cost equips either...  Zack has a lot of options to keep going, I'd be surprised if resources are ever really a problem for him except when fighting MP-nukers.  Curaga should still full-heal him and that's only 26 MP or so?  I'm not 100% certain if MP+ materia is unquestionably legal (as in, gotten in the main game, no Missions) but I'm pretty sure it is.  Even one MP+ materia can easily knock Zack from ~300 MP to 600 max MP, and some equips help his MP with +25% like the Dragon Armlet hyped last week.  There's also an MP+80% equip that's gotten in the final dungeon (that also blocks Silence) for another way to ramp up Zack's MP ridiculously.  Furthermore, when the DMW kicks in for a limit rather than just a bonus, Zack gets some HP/MP/AP healing even when it's not Aeris.  0 MP cost DMW status will be randomly kicking in at times as well.  And lastly, the stat topic describes EN as "like MP" so there's an argument that Zack can use Osmoga here if he's really into stalling well.

Archibald does not have Double Image.  He has Jammer!  Which sounds like it'd be as useful here as it is normally.

Even if you see MP busting/draining as hitting SRW EN, which is questionable, since SP is closer to traditional MP than EN is (and as such, I wouldn't see EN as such), there's still the issue of Archibald blocking status-effect weapons, which EN and SP busters/drainers in OG2 fall under.
