Been quiet on the team tournaments front lately. As a new tourney to pass the time while the Dungeon retools, SnowFire presents a very shallow idea for a tournament: hair color based teams. Yes. Thanks to the magic of anime, we know that any ol' color is perfectly legitimate for hair, but which shade produces the strongest fighters?

Tentatively, there'll be 10 teams. I'm going with teams of black, brown, blond, red, silver / gray, blue, teal / light blue, purple, pink, & green. If people want to nominate orange & bald-haired characters for a side bonus match, go ahead, just I suspect that there are not a lot of options there.

Teams will generally be ~4 characters. A few teams may end up as 3 or 5 characters. Nominations should only be for CKDL-ranked games and characters with a stat topic. Nominate as many characters as you like! Nominating the same character someone else did won't make them more likely to get in though.

Methodology: 3 characters will be rando-selected from all nominees for each team. I, SnowFire, will fill out the 4th character from among the nominees with an eye toward preserving a roughly equal power level among teams (OMG favoritism). Teams with an unusually strong 3 characters might stay at 3, and teams with an unusually weak 3 characters might go to 5 members. Basically, this means you shouldn't worry that nominating strong or weak characters will unbalance a team, Hatbot won't have the final say if it picks 3 Lights or 3 Godlikes.

Recommendations & things to avoid:

It'd be nice if nominees have some extra tie to their hair color - it's remarked upon in game, it's an interesting contrast or unusual, etc. For example, Micaiah is the "Silver-Haired Maiden" in-game; Rose is "The Black Monster" (and has the Shadow Dragoon Spirit and dark-elemental attacks); etc. But anybody's nominatable of course, this is just "extra credit."
Flip side, avoid generics. Sure, FFT rando-recruits have blond hair, but if you use Malak or others you can make an FFT Time Mage with black hair, which suggests that blond hair isn't really a defining characteristic of FFT Time Mage, or any FFT class.
No High Godlikes. This is a team tournament and High Godlikes can often just win all on their own which trivializes the rest of their team. I'm going to set Rika (PS4) as the absolute strongest Godlike that's still valid here. (And yes, Team Silver Hair curses at missing out on Sephiroth, Ghaleon, Lady, etc.)

Anyway, some nominations to get the ball rolling. (I'll add more later perhaps, but this should be a decent start.)

Rose - Black monster, dark elemental, fun times. She's interesting and flavorful.
Hrist - Well she's part of a set of three differentiated by hair color, get some holy elemental in there to contrast with Rose?!
Labrynthia - Also not as terrible in a team match as in the DL, thanks to Revive being useful. Always down for Labby hype.
Kornell - Don't call him a peabrain. Has BOSS REVIVAL wat.
Micaiah - Per above. Silver-haired maiden Mary Sue, yup, gets to use her healing & status cleansing game too for once.
Ike - Authority-in-a-team-match hype.
Luna - One of the original blue-haired anime chars.
KOS-MOS - Slow but powerful MT damage.
Lucca - More slow-and-fragile but scary if they get a turn types.
Lightning - I hear she's returning or something.
Olivia - Dancer in a team match… that will totally explode to anything but hey there's a little evade at least.

Also at risk of pointing out the obvious, for the teal / blue distinction, compare the likes of Ephraim / Nils with Ike / Chrom. Considering how popular blue hair is, I doubt we'll have much trouble filling up both teams, but we'll see.

I've gone and picked 2 for each color, and tried to keep it to a maximum of 2 from any single game as well. Feel free to ignore the second one listed for each color if you think this is too many noms.

Mario (Super Mario RPG): Mario's hair color has oscillated between black and brown depending on the artist and the game, but it's unquestionably black in SMRPG.
Tharja (FE13): Ohohohoho.

Brown
Delita Hyral (FFT): Something I've always noticed about FFT character art is that the nobles are almost universally blond while the lowborn are almost universally brown-haired. The game never really makes a point of it, but I wonder if it was intentional.
Yosuke Hanamura (Persona 4): Have some support, brown-hair team.

Blond
Princess Toadstool (Super Mario RPG): Because this team needed more support.
Jerin (Lufia 1): No, really, it did.

Red
Eliwood (FE7): At least he's not Roy, I suppose.
Mitsuru Kirijo (Persona 3): This team actually DOES need more support.

Silver
Cecil Harvey (FF4): This is a slightly debatable color: his sprites have purpleish hair, but his portraits and his Dissidia design are more decidedly silver, so I classified him here. Anyway, Micaiah will appreciate Cover.
Setzer Gabbiani (FF6): Another debatable one, it's either platinum blond or silver. The sprite favors the latter, though.

Lucina (FE13): Because I can't nom Marth.
Naoto Shirogane (Persona 4): Because she's cool, dammit.

Selan (Lufia 2): Selan's hair color is kind of ambiguous. It's undebatably teal in her Lufia 1 appearance, kind of a pastel green in her Lufia 2 walk sprite, undebatably green in her L2 menu and battle sprites, undebatably *blue* in her L2 official artwork, and finally undebatably teal again in the L2 remake. In any case the ranked form of her is the one with all the green. So it goes.
Shaymin (Pokemon DPP): Well, the leafy "fur" on its back is most definitely green. I'm of the opinion this is close enough to count, and who says all the noms here have to be human?

As an aside, SF, I think Lucca's pink, not purple (feel free to correct me, though). Also, Liete is G1, not G2, Djinn >_>

I dunno, since this game is all about which hair colour produces the strongest fighters, it almost feels like teams should get some sort of bonus or points for highly thematic folks who should be on their team, but are DQed for being over powerful. I mean, there is a reason why one of the Rules of RPGs is that most problems can be solved by finding the right silver haired Bishie and killing them.

Excal: Well, that's where I come in. While the primary concern for the "4th" character will be power level, if I have several options for red hair and one character just kinda randomly has red hair, and the other one is a Irish orphan with freckles and fire magic and a hot temper, I'm going to pick the most stereotypical & flavorful one possible. As for Team Silver Hair being OP, well, I want some semblance of balance, so this secretly isn't about finding the most powerful hair shade. (Sounds like an interesting idea for a follow-up tourney though - just grab the most powerful dudes possible for each hair color... so all Godlikes all the time. What hair color is Saga Frontier Blue, anyway?!)

super: Melfice is a little too good for this - under the harshest interps he's still at the absolute top of the desired power level, and the interps that let Melfice champ Godlike back in the day clearly make him a bit too good. Really fast MT 2HKO, lots of evade to let him get a 2nd turn, etc.

Reiska: Cecil & Selan I'm going to look the other way on for the reasons you stated. Someone like Id who *explicitly changes hair color in game* is great, but where a character has multiple hair colors because the artists plain aren't consistent, it makes them a less good "representative" of that hair color. Cecil can work on Purple-Silver haired diplomacy perhaps. Shaymin... nice try, but no.

I added Elly & Rhys for Orange, as they were the only two I could think of before, but seems like there are more orange-haired types out there than I gave credit for.

Mia (Golden Sun) - thematically-appropriate hair color is one of Golden Sun's -things-. And the team wants a healer, even a slow one.

She's not ranked in CKDL unfortunately. I'd have nommed Arche, Estelle, and Cheria for a kickass Tales Pink team (ID + Elemental walling, Magic Immunity+Tankiness, and Infinite Healing is awesome!). I guess you would want a damage dealer in there, too... Presea's fine though inspires apathy.
