Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
« on: August 12, 2008, 05:26:15 AM »
Let's sing~

Battles
Rhapsody uses a turn-based SRPG battle system.  Turns work more like Arc the Lad 2.

Magic, Special, and Rewards
Each puppet can use either Magic or Special.  There's not really a difference between the two from what I can tell.  All magic and specials hit no defense and always hit (exception: status).

Rewards are unique to Cornet.  In-battle, Cornet can use the Horn command to increase the Offense of the puppets around her.  She also gains Reward Points (RP) equal to the number of puppets affected divided by 6.  The max is 5 and 5/6.  Reward points carry over between battles, so I allow her to start with half, or 3 (since 2 11/12 rounds up to 3 due to needing to be in increments of 1/6).  Do note that since Cornet cannot have the puppets with her in a duel (unless you for some reason allow this), she cannot get more RP in-battle.

Levels
I used 43000 EXP for Cornet and 40000 EXP for the puppets.  Cornet is forced in the party at all times and if she dies, the game is over, therefore she will always have the most EXP.  Sharte theoretically could have the same amount of EXP due to joining before the first battle, but she can be switched out of the roster (and probably will be).  Along with raising stats, levels determine evasion, accuracy, status accuracy, and status resistance.  In fact, level is the only thing that modifies these values.  Therefore, Cornet would have higher evasion, accuracy, and status resistance compared to most of the cast.  Also of note is that puppets level at different rates, or more specifically, DarkKnight and Ledgen level faster than everyone else for some reason.  Cornet also raises levels quicker than the puppets.  As such, these three will have a level advantage on the rest.

Elements
There are seven elements: Dark, Holy, Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, and Thunder.  Dark/Holy oppose each other, as do Fire/Water and Wind/Earth.  Thunder has no opposing element.  Being struck by the opposing element increases damage taken by 50%, while being struck by the same element reduces damage taken by 50%.  Neutral indicates the absense of an element.

Range
Characters come in two different ranges: Close-range and Long-range.  Close-range can only attack from adjacent squares while Long-range can attack from up to three squares away.

Equipment
All equipment in Rhapsody are universal accessories.  In addition, none of them are status resisting accessories.  As such, none will be used here, save for the Holy Charm, which Cornet has a plot claim to.  The Holy Charm reduces MP cost to 50%.  Yes, this is as worthless as it sounds for Cornet.

Skill Lv.
Skill Lv. is dependant on how many kills a character makes.  3 is about where they should be at endgame.  Skill level affects crit rate, but I haven't figured out how much.  Eyeballing it, it's probably 10% per level.  Max is 5.

Stats
Lv: Levels.  Affect accuracy, evasion, status accuracy, and status resistance.
HP: Lose these and you go to the Netherworld.  Believe me, you don't want to go there.
MP: Used for Magic, Special, and Horn.
RP: Used for Rewards.  Only Cornet has these.
Offense: Determines damage dealt by the basic Attack command.  Base damage is equal to twice the Offense score.
Defense: Reduces damage taken by the basic Attack command.  Damage is reduced by the Defense score.
Agility: Affects turn order in battle.  Battles are turn-based.
Intelligence: Determiens damage dealt by Magic and Special commands.  This score is added to the base power of the magic or special.
Movement: Number of tiles the character can move in one turn.

To do list:
Status accuracies (if I had to guess at this point I'd say they hover around 75% on average, higher for the higher levelled people).
Buffs/debuff effects/durations.  From casual testing, they seem to be 50% buffs/debuffs and last three turns.
Accuracy/evasion tests (though not too important).
Temp!
Pictures!

... *blinks* Thank god. I was going to force myself to do this if no one else was crazy enough.

Any plans to do bosses? I think I could do the final set of bosses if you can't/don't want to. (Just wondering since it's not on the "To do list", and Marjoly should totally be stat topic'd).

Tonfa was getting bosses last I checked.  Though I can't seem to get him to get off his lazy ass and actually finish them!

If nothing else, I can get Marjoly, since I have a save sitting right there which I need to get the temp's stats.  But I'd rather let Tonfa do it so they're all in one place (and also I'm lazy).
