seems about as legal as various other seemingly other "environmental" effects for other duelers

Such as? Environmental effects for duellers are usually thrown out or seen as illegal.

Anyway I think most people would agree that Joe w/ crowd > Healie but as last week's results show, there are a bunch of people who don't view Joe w/ crowd.

(I think I abstained out of disgust, for what it's worth. <.<)

Unless Jagen has a defense score of *0*, Healie's attacks are tinking here.

Um.

Healie does damage to AVERAGE defense, not ZERO defense.  Against zero defense in DQ4, he'd be doing  a hell of a lot more damage than 1-3.

Brooklyn 'Bullet' Luckfield (Super Robot Taisen Series) vs Giratina (Pokémon) - Don't recall KRO having any sort of beam attack or something along those lines, just hand to hand combat style moves.

Ephraim (Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones) vs Ultros (Final Fantasy VI) - Can't see Eph OHKOing here, and he absolutely needs to.

Jagen (Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon) vs Healie (Dragon Quest IV) - Kneejerk, not mathing this out for sanity's sake.

Godlike

Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete) vs Ryu (Breath of Fire III) - Ryu gets a turn and does that whole massacre thing.
Profound Darkness (Phantasy Star IV) vs Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King): Last form 2HKO's.
Hrist Valkyrie (Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria) vs Dr. Psyche (Mega Man X: Command Mission)
Brooklyn 'Bullet' Luckfield (Super Robot Taisen Series) vs Giratina (Pokémon)

Heavy

Wylfred (Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) vs Angeal Hewley (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)
Roddick Ferrance (Star Ocean: First Departure) vs Shaymin (Pokémon) -
Auron (Final Fantasy X) vs Queen Zeal (Chrono Trigger) - HP-1 poke works, I guess...
Ephraim (Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones) vs Ultros (Final Fantasy VI) -

Middle

Slime Knight (Dragon Quest V) vs Teddie (Persona 4)
Viola (Eternal Sonata) vs Merric (Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon) - Viola should 2HKO without being 2HKO'd, for what that is worth.
Kresnik Ahtreide (Wild ARMs 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4): See what Monkey said. Even 5x average damage won't kill Kresnik when he is defending.
Ilia Silvestri (Star Ocean: First Depature) vs Slime (Dragon Quest V) -

Light

Jagen (Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon) vs Healie (Dragon Quest IV) -
Tricia (Soul Nomad & The World Eaters) vs Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics) - A hearty "Whatever." Special attack should prove fatal.
Millie Chliette (Star Ocean: First Departure) vs Sanaki (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) - I don't want to think too much about this.
Luceid (Wild ARMs Series) vs Vitali (Soul Nomad & The World Eaters) -  WA2 form should be good enough here.

Godlike

Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete) vs Ryu (Breath of Fire III) - Goes first.
Profound Darkness (Phantasy Star IV) vs Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) - Empyrea I have a bizarre amount of respect for. PD still smokes.
Brooklyn 'Bullet' Luckfield (Super Robot Taisen Series) vs Giratina (Pokémon) - EDIT: See below. Alert saves you not, Bullet!

Heavy

Auron (Final Fantasy X) vs Queen Zeal (Chrono Trigger) - Poke.
Ephraim (Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones) vs Ultros (Final Fantasy VI) - Evade is one of two things I won't hype Eph for, the other being speed. Ultros statuses.

Middle

Slime Knight (Dragon Quest V) vs Teddie (Persona 4) - DQM Slime Knight didn't like ice.
Kresnik Ahtreide (Wild ARMs 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4) - feh. Won't vote, this would definitely require endgame knowledge. Gut says Kresnik, but.

On Chie vs. Kresnik: So I guess Kresnik's being hyped for an instant double after Adrenaline Rush?

Kresnik isn't tooo much slower than Chie to start with and is about 2x average speed with Adrenaline Rush, so an instant double there seems extremely likely.

OG1 Bullet has beam attacks, so.

Uh, does OG1 Bullet win, though? I don't remember the Huckbein being impressive. Or Bullet himself, besides Alert, and Giratina has a move that specifically goes through invincibility (Detect/Protect), so that's out. OG PCs usually are a bit out of their element against someone with Giratina's durability to boot.

Not sure I'd class perfect evasion as Pokemon invincibility, personally. (read: I don't but your interp is valid)

And... gut says Alert spam after triggering Graviton Beam is enough? It's not great, but it should be able to beat him down just barely. I'll math it out later (it deserves that), but gut says that combo's good enough.

EDIT: Graviton Beam doesn't matter, Photon Rifle if you allow it works fine.

Bullet has 13 shots of Alert and is 100% accurate to average with Photon Rifle. It has 8 shots. (2437*8)/5497 is 3.55x PCHP, which should be enough to take down Giratina even with my high durability respect...

EDIT 2 NINJA: Wait, Giratina -does- get something I'd see bypassing Alert - Aura Sphere. ("Perfect evasion" loses out to an attack that literally cannot miss. Strike is just 100% accuracy to me, before you ask.)

Give me a minute, then.

EDIT 3: AHAHAHA DISREGARD THE ABOVE FAULTY MATH IS FAULTY, Bullet -needs- Graviton Cannon to stand a chance but he can't outpace Aura Sphere which 5HKOs him (EDIT: At worst for Giratina. More likely it 4HKOs). Giratina wins. Damn that's funny, thanks NEB for making me actually think it through.

Anyway I think most people would agree that Joe w/ crowd > Healie but as last week's results show, there are a bunch of people who don't view Joe w/ crowd.

(I think I abstained out of disgust, for what it's worth. <.<)

Slow on noticing this, but odd, I thought you were somebody who said they did give credit for environmental effects.  Most notably this is something like a non-moving Fire Emblem boss; since it's literally impossible to fight them without them having that defense bonus and a tiny bit of regen, they get credit for it to me (unless they're facing Arnaud or something).  The Patriarch's UMN Phase Transfer cannon is arguably not him, since he's "asking" Abel to fire it, but mechanically it is obviously part of the battle.  This also would lead to madness as far as things like stat modifications, not just certain moves - IIRC, the fire-aligned bad guys in Golden Sun whine about fighting in the Water-aligned tower in one boss battle (the official excuse for why you can beat them here), but I don't see any good way to "correct" for those stats.  Not sure how many other good examples are out there, but Fire Emblem bosses are definitely the big one to me.

Talaysen: Okay, yeah, wires slightly crossed on translating defenses, but the point stands that Healie's damage is god-awful, especially if compared to the cast as a whole rather than just Ragnar.  He might well be tinking anyway if Jagen has anything resembling average Defense.

What Tal means is, if Healie doesn't tink exactly average defense, he's not tinking someone with below average defense (which Jagen probably is? I'm not sure, though). That's pretty much illogical in a basic math sense.

Seems most of the regulars have voted, but think I'll still wait a few hours before closing.  But now for voting!

Godlike

Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete) vs Ryu (Breath of Fire III)
Profound Darkness (Phantasy Star IV) vs Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King)
Hrist Valkyrie (Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria) vs Dr. Psyche (Mega Man X: Command Mission)
Brooklyn 'Bullet' Luckfield (Super Robot Taisen Series) vs Giratina (Pokémon)

Heavy

Wylfred (Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) vs Angeal Hewley (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)- Hum.  Yeah, the defense is probably too badass.  Pity, I wanted to see Wylfred in a few more matches.
Roddick Ferrance (Star Ocean: First Departure) vs Shaymin (Pokémon)
Auron (Final Fantasy X) vs Queen Zeal (Chrono Trigger)
Ephraim (Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones) vs Ultros (Final Fantasy VI)- I think I'll take that OHKO hype.

Middle

Slime Knight (Dragon Quest V) vs Teddie (Persona 4)- out-resources.
Viola (Eternal Sonata) vs Merric (Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon)- No vote.
Kresnik Ahtreide (Wild ARMs 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4)
Ilia Silvestri (Star Ocean: First Depature) vs Slime (Dragon Quest V)- knee-jerk.

Light

Jagen (Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon) vs Healie (Dragon Quest IV)- You could argue Jagen gets the heal-lock here but... doubled, defense is 3 or so points below average so Healie gets a bit of a boost there... eh, feeling Healie.
Tricia (Soul Nomad & The World Eaters) vs Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics)- Well... hm.  He's faster and Tricia's a bit frail.  Guess this works.
Millie Chliette (Star Ocean: First Departure) vs Sanaki (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn)
Luceid (Wild ARMs Series) vs Vitali (Soul Nomad & The World Eaters)
CK: She is the female you
Snow: Speaking of Sluts!

<NotMiki> I mean, we're talking life vs. liberty, with the pursuit of happiness providing color commentary.

CK, if you go by S0 1r Millie, she shouldn't have too many problems with Sanaki. Sanaki is limited to fire magic in this match, that's halved, and then halved again Reflected.
...into the nightfall.
