Oh yeah that red card at the end was shameful. Might have been the angle I saw it at but it seems like the spanish guy just randomly threw himself to the ground to get a player sent off.

That's how Spain plays.

Round of 16 updates from matches I saw!

Ghana v US-  Honestly, US controlled 2/3 of the game to Ghana's 1/3.  The problem is, Ghana got the goals to go in and U.S. kick ass in the near miss department.  It's like in our football when a team outgains another team 400 to 200 in yards, but loses due to untimely turnovers or penalties.  Damn.  Would have gotten one of the softer round of 8 draws as well.

Spain v Portugal-  This game was the one I thought would be the most fun, but it kind of bored me.  I enjoy amazing displays of offense more than the grind them out games.  (Even if goals are scored, I love watching 4-5 quick passes to set up a good look.)

Germany v Britain-  Gotta see some of this game, although I missed the rofl goal.  I'm not sure if Germany is good or Britain is just that bad.

Portugal is an attacking team normaly its just after they were destroyed by Brazil 6-2 the manager refuses to ever go on the offence again it seems. A shame because Portugal could have won the game had they come out attacking. Their goalkeeper pulled off a world class performance while the spainish one looked really shaky punching away easy balls he should have catched.

And the only teams that do that more than Spain? Italy, Argentina and... oh yeah. Portugal.

I'll admit I have never payed enough attention to Portugal to know if they're a bunch of flopping shitheads or not, so I'll take your word for it.

Italy and Argentina, yeah. I was marking so hard during that Slovakia victory, and I can't wait for Argentina to fall on their face. Would be nice if it happened against Germany!

Everyone says that but its largely not true, at least recently it hasn't with this newish team. Even Ron who a lot of people consider the posterboy of diving isn't doing it. In fact he is a case of the boy who called Wolf, take the Spain game for example. He was fouled twice and the second time the spanish player doesn't even go for the ball instead pushing him to the ground as Ron goes for the ball. What does the ref do? Get up Ron that was a dive. Its sad because he has tried to play the game fair and everyone assumes he is still diving.

Say what you will but Portugal didn't dive a single time that game while Spain dived three or four times with the last one being Rivaldo level.

Hrm, I'll admit, I'm not certain on this World Cup. I'm just talking in general, and Portugal (and Ronaldo in particular) have definitely done it in recent years, all the way up to the qualifiers, at least.

Well, despite 4chan's best efforts, Forlan was awarded Man of the Match.

I wanted to see Suarez get it. :(

Suarez walked off the field crying, but man... even if Ghana made the PK, this guy at least gave his team a chance.  He should have been proud of his play regardless of the outcome.

Brazil lost yay ;D. No doubt in 4 years time 99% of the worlds population will still be backing them to win easily even though they haven't made it to the quarter finals in two tournaments now.

But they did lose to the eventual champs, so it's no real surprise to see them go.

I SERIOUSLY wish I'd put a bet on the Netherlands at the start of the tourn now. >.< Had them pegged to win from the start. :(

Okay, that was officially the "Cheer up, England!" match.  4-0 hammering of Argentina by Germany.  Ow, ow, ow.  (Though the 4th goal was late and a result of Argentina being forced to overcommit.)

Well the spain game is starting now, I want them to go down of course. Not just because I don't like them but because they don't sing. They just don't care enough to sing so they can go out for it.

I hate when teams just don't care to sing. Its your anthem, Sing it with pride.

Soo... can we agree that Germany was a stronger team than Ghana now?  (Yes I know Ghana almost advanced, but against a much weaker team and in a much less awesome fashion.)

And I'm all with Yoshi.  Go Netherlands!  (Or have Uruguay pull out the awesome upsets, but that seems laughable.)

Yeah, they've definitely stepped it up a notch.

And man, some good fucking games in the quarterfinals, minus of course the Germany game... but blowouts are fun in a different way!  Some nice upsets, epic finishes, close games, comebacks, pretty much had it all.

Eh, I like the Spanish team.  Also, Spain's national anthem is all instrumental - no lyrics.

Really I'd be pretty happy with any of the 4 finalists.  Normally I'd slightly anti-hype Germany but this isn't the dreaded defensive / brutal  German soccer of ages past, they play a pretty exciting game.  Uruguay gets sneaky bastard points and is a tiny country with a good history, Netherlands just seems like a solid team that somehow never won, and Spain is interesting to watch at least since they seem to try and make every match close and win by just 1 goal even when they should theoretically be steamrolling.

Klose got sent off wrongly early on in the Serbia match and was thus suspended for the Ghana game. That didn't help, certainly, as Klose is really good at scoring in the World Cup no matter how crap he is for his club team it seems. Also both sides sorta gave up by the middle of the second half in the Ghana game.
