DL-Con 7: Gaming and Activities!
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:47:54 AM »
Hey guys, figured I'd get this started.

Gaming:

I have a PS3 and 2 controllers, so 2 more would be needed as well as an X-Box and/or Wii. I WILL have the Simpsons arcade game. I promise.

As far as board games, I have Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Gloom and Dreamblade. I may push for some Chardee Macdennis play as well (after viewing a handy instructional video of course). Just let everyone know what you're bringing here ahead of time as well! The dining room table is also a really good spot for this, and there's a table on the fenced-in porch that would also work.

For the laptop Touhou people, there's a decent computer desk with two ~20 inch screens for you guys.

Activities:

Wednesday: Universal Trip day. Again, DO NOT PLAN ON FLYING IN ON THIS DAY UNLESS YOU PLAN ON GETTING TO THE HOTEL YOURSELF.

Thursday: Chill time as people mingle and I run myself ragged to and from the airport. Probably order in pizza for dinner.

Friday:

Given that it's my house and I have a grill, I'm deeply committed to making the mythical DL Cookout happen for dinner that night. Would probably fall here, rain or shine. Gaming and general chill time would happen today as well as the Music Quiz most likely. Also a candidate for a trip to the comic store, which we have a really fucking awesome one here.

Saturday:

Traditionally given to Bowling. Dinner out at one of two places I have in mind is a possibility as well (Small-ish Rudy's type place and sports bar that serves alligator). The former might pose a problem for a large group, but is close to the only GameStop that still sells PS2 games around here. The latter is more generic outside said awesome and tasty appetizer, but much better for group and on the way home from bowling. Post thoughts.

Sunday: People go home.

Also, I plan on having a cocktail/alcohol night either Friday or Saturday night for people interested. Crashing at my place is welcome as long as you don't mind getting put wherever I can fit you. There will be some rules for this to keep things from getting out of hand, so keep that in mind.

Hotel eats: Just noting the places around the hotel to eat. There's a McDonald's, Arby's, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, a sports bar, a gelato place, a chinese food place and a Mexican restaurant in walking distance. There's a Firehouse Subs, a Taco Bell, a Wendy's and a diner on the highway just past my turnoff.

There's also a Publix near the hotel.

I know it's not Texas, but given my disappointment last year, I am driven to eat the biggest damn porterhouse steak I can find.

Will probably have hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken (both grilled and BBQ legs), and some form of steak.

You will probably only get a whole steak if you are willing to get lynched by people.

EDIT: Or, of course, if you buy it/cook it yourself.

Ok, I can make smoothies for people if you all like smoothies! I would just need a blender.

Uhm, I would love to play smash bros...I could bring a GC and some controller, but I don't think my memory card has all the characters any more...

I have a couple of board games, like...Scattergories?

I am also bringing a gift for a lucky person, but this said gift might go to nobody...it just depends on how the trip ends up!

I see no one's mentioned Apples 2 Apples. This is a travesty.

I personally suggest A2A for the drinking portion of the Saturday activities. Either that or the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Drinking game.

Gameswise: I can bring Japanese PS3/360 if necessary. I also have PSP->TV A/V connectors so we could play Dissidia on a large screen (C'mon Meeple, search your feelings, you know this is what you must do).

Since I'm driving, I can bring all kinds of stuff more easily than the flying commuters, so I can bring extra 360/PS3/Wii controllers.

And I'm totally bringing my laptop so you nerds can play what I have of Djinn Fantasy 6. XP

People can do whatever they want during the party as long as they don't cause trouble. Apples to Apples is generally a given, but it's good to have confirmation on someone bringing it.

Gonna go over what I decided for the alcohol policy. This'll be for the Con proper (Thursday-Sunday). There will be beer availible during the day, but the hard stuff will be limited to the party. Drivers will not be allowed to drink outside the party or out at dinner, period. It makes it easier on me keeping track of everything. I will also be adhering to this in good faith. If you want to drink back at the hotel, be my guest (or if there are drivers at the house, also fine once everyone is where they should be for the night).

Don't be an asshole, regardless. Overdrinking or causing problems will net you a swift ejection from the house for the remainder of the con.

Shame I'm not drinking this year, or I could have been the first one ejected from the house!

You mention you bake a mean Reese's pie (cake)? Hop to it, woman. I won't be helping out cooking with everything - that's just obnoxious. d: You can cook too, OK!

Since no one has actively volunteered to bring a Wii and 360 (Djinn mentioned being able to bring his Japanese ones, but methinks that won't help us too much if people bring games to show off/play...), just reinterating the need for them.

360, Wii with enough controllers, as well as two extra PS3 controllers.
