Got home yesterday at ~6:30pm.

Total miles put on the car from the time we left the Bay Area to the time we got back to the Bay Area: 1,414.2
Number of miles that were not part of the drive down/back up: ~500
Tanks of gas used: ~4-5 (at $30-40 a pop)

Money spent: ... ;_;

In this trip I learned I am decidedly an introvert. I need regular time -- at least every other day -- to be by myself for a while or I will go crazy. That, rather than the driving, is why I was so fried during the trip. Sorry about that. Next year I will be better!

Con this year was fun! Really glad I managed to avoid missing two in a row, even if it was a whirlwind trip, less than 48 hours. There were some minor frustrations (roads, not getting to hang out with a number of people, that bowling place, people's sleep schedules not overlapping well with mine) but nothing major and generally I had a heck of a lot of fun.

First off, a big thanks for Niu for letting us all crash your house and generally being a chill host. Thanks also to everyone who braved LA traffic and drove the rest of us about. LA traffic is a thing that exists, and I can't believe what I saw was just the weekend version.

Other random thoughts:

-Constant board games! I won't begrudge people doing what they enjoy ever (well except maybe Lufia 1 fans), but as I had no real interest in these it meant that I basically didn't interact with those who were always playing them. This was a shame for me since interacting with people is why I come to these things! If I visited for longer I would have made time somewhere else, so to everyone I didn't spend much time with in that crowd (VSM, Andy, Ashley, Soppy, Tonfa, etc.), sorry for not talking much, and I hope I catch more of you next year!

-Yay, trip into the city on Saturday. I always approve of anything which lets me actually visit the places DLCon is at, even if LA isn't the prettiest city and we didn't (while I was here anyway) visit anything truly iconic about the city. Still, giant anime/game merchandise store is pretty cool even if I predictably didn't buy anything. Ramen was pretty good! I'm sure I ate it when I visited Japan 15 years ago but I have no memory of it, so yeah, fun times.

-Came second in the music quiz this year, but deferred my prize since one OST I already had and the other was Persona. There was a lot of Niu saying "THIS IS OBVIOUS" *plays song three times, nobody gets it* For lack of a better way to put it, it seemed appropriate for a Niu-run music quiz. Sorry we failed you, Niu. :(

-Bowling! So uh actually bowling was one of those events I was planning to use to corner people I hadn't talked to much yet. Then it turned out talking was not a thing which could reasonably happen there. Seriously what the hell was up with that music. The actual bowling experience was fun as always - good group activity that I hope continues - but the actual place itself sucked. (aw yeah glitches)

-Sunday morning we headed over to Niu's and nobody was there for a while. Then Laggy and Brian and Alex showed up, so we went out to lunch with the former two. Mostly talked about job system games since those are definitely the shared interest there! Also Mexican food. Always so, so much better in this country.

-Card games! Watching Super's misadventures in trying to fuck everyone over at (edit) Hearts never gets old. Playing Asshole for the first time in over a decade was also great fun. Well played on your YOLO strats, Gate.

-Persona 4 Arena. Not too much to say; neither Arcsys fighters nor Persona are really my thing, but it was fun to get in a bit of multiplayer, something I always enjoy. Also you P4 fans fail FOREVER at trying to sell me on Persona 4 as a game. How did you not tell me that Kanji beats things up with a folding chair?

As always, it was really great to see everyone. Great to meet Tide for the first time (the Arnaud jacket is sweet, man). I regret that I didn't get to spend much time with a bunch of people but the interactions I did have were good fun. I definitely hope I can see more of people next year!

No mention of my adventures in Hearts? Shame, Elfboy. Shame.

Oh right. I can never keep the names of those two games straight. Queen of Spades is the most memorable card in Hearts, especially when you are involved, so.

I also fucked everyone over in Spades, but in an entirely different way.

I personally was pleased with your 'contribution' to your team in Spades.

Let's be fair, I was never trying to sell you on Persona.  Except as schadenfreude, so really on Persona 3 more than 4 regardless.

Back at last.  Good trip, was fun.  So many things happened that they're a whirlwind in my head.  Some highlights:

- Conversing with (Brazil) Snow.  Our spheres of life are incredibly different, yet we seem to have an incredibly easy time talking to each other.  Good stuff.

- Gaming with Snow (Fire), Grefter, Djinn and others at Andy's place.  Got ruined by Great Old One, got ruined by Grefter the Whore, managed to keep a straight face in IRL Mafialikes and tagteam with Djinn to ruin others.

- Tagged along to Aeria with Laggy to pick up his laptop and poke Andy/Ashley.  Managed to hilariously miss both of the A-team, but while strolling through the place Laggy waves me to look at people's awesome desks, I do, and then I doubletake at one of the names.
Ewen Cluney?
Wait, that's not a common name, surely it couldn't be the Ewen Cluney?  Maid RPG translator Ewen Cluney?  12x overfunded Kickstarter for his next project Ewen Cluney?  The top of the line guy in my own dabbling field of non-video game translations?  Yeah it's him, he just randomly works at Aeria, and nobody told me, what the heck Andy!  Massive jealousy, wish he'd actually been there so I could have disrupted his workday and embarrassed myself picked his brain and gotten an autograph or something.

- Board games!!!  I'm the exact opposite of Elfboy in this regard, I can chat up people as much as I want online, but cons are usually the only chances I get to sit down and play non-online games with this group of intelligent and likeminded friends.  So that's mainly what I want to do at DLcon, nonstop, and this year did not disappoint.  Lots of mahjong, of course, and lots of Dominionlikes this year, Puzzle Strike with some Tanto Cuore on the side.  The fight to become the King of Maids is a harsh battle indeed.  Also MC flailing her arms and squealing "RON!" is like a perfect photo-summary of DLcons in my brain.  Finished out with a half-game of Dominant Species, in which I was mildly befuddled that Andy hadn't seen anyone do Kamikaze Tundra Death Spiders before - their racial bonus is basically only good for ganking single units on tundra, so I thought it was the obvious way to go, right?  Maybe not in a fuller game though...

- Niu and Super tag team fanservicey artbooks.  I don't think there's anything I can possibly say about this.

- Cat.  Is top tier.

- PSO2.  What.

To be fair also, Kanji's folding chair beating ways are way less prominent in game as most of his weapons are basically him being KH Goofy and smacking them with the shield; P4A could have easily done the same thing, and we're glad they didn't.

A: I did go for Nil twice in a row, but both hands were suited to it. I had a terrible run on cards in the first game (Wtf I'm void on like two suits and they never get played ever) and the second I hit. I did overbid by a single trick in the final game, but so it goes.
