Pizza power tourney: Round 1, group 1
« on: August 01, 2017, 05:39:07 AM »
It rolls on.

Back to standard voting and one on one matchups.  Nothing bad will happen to anyone this may trip up though it will amuse me greatly.

I made the extra effort to reshuffle the brackets to prevent duplication of previous weeks.

Voting form - pick the one you like best

White pears or Sausage (good Italian sausage, not chain stuff)
Green peppers or Chicken and onions
Canadian bacon or Ham
Fresh goat cheese + fig or Margherita (mozzerlla, basil, and tomato)

For those who haven't had it, Margherita doesn't contain tomato sauce.

For what it's worth I've had pizza which calls itself margherita which has tomato sauce...

White pears or Sausage (good Italian sausage, not chain stuff): I've never had either, but chain sausage is pretty much the shittiest pizza meat so voting against the one that isn't associated with that.
Green peppers or Chicken and onions: Probably my favourite pizza topping overall.
Canadian bacon or Ham: Close enough for obvious reasons. I think I prefer bacon alone (despite finding it incredibly overrated by internet memes) but ham on pizza.
Fresh goat cheese + fig or Margherita (mozzerlla, basil, and tomato): Easy.

Maybe.

White pears or Sausage (good Italian sausage, not chain stuff)
Never had the former though it sounds interesting. Sausage is my favorite of the classic pizza meats.

Green peppers or Chicken and onions
One of my go-to combos. Green peppers are fine with things, but not on their own.

Canadian bacon or Ham

Fresh goat cheese + fig or Margherita (mozzerlla, basil, and tomato)
I've had some with and without sauce. Better with imo, but still good even done classic style without.

White pears or Sausage (good Italian sausage, not chain stuff)
A good fruit choice excites me, though I haven't had what might be considered good sausage.

Green peppers or Chicken and onions
Most things beat solo peppers.

Canadian bacon or Ham
You never quite know what you're going to get when a place says "Canadian Bacon."

Fresh goat cheese + fig or Margherita (mozzerlla, basil, and tomato)
Would like to try the other, but not enough to vote it here.

White pears or Sausage (good Italian sausage, not chain stuff)  A matchup which I mulled over for more than 10 seconds before deciding.  Quality sausage was my first instinct.  I am aiming to lower my meat consumption for health reasons so an interesting non-meat option won out for me.
Green peppers or Chicken and onions  Garlic chicken is one of my favorite picks from California Pizza Kitchen so easy choice.  Actually, had I thought about it earlier, I would allow people to vote "both" in which case two choices would be combined in the next round but that's just how things worked out.
Canadian bacon or Ham  Interesting matchup the RNG rolled here due to personal history.  I went with ham in my younger years.  At some point, switched to Canadian bacon and never looked back.  Preferences aside, they're nearly interchangeable.
Fresh goat cheese + fig or Margherita (mozzerlla, basil, and tomato)  Simple preference.  Tomato sauce seems unnecessary on a pizza which already uses fresh tomato though I suppose some places will add it because their customer base expects it.

White pears or Sausage (good Italian sausage, not chain stuff) - Again, GOOD sausage is the key here...
Green peppers or Chicken and onions - Yeah...hardest one here, I think, 2 very different options
Canadian bacon or Ham - Damn Canadians, thinking they can take out bacon!
Fresh goat cheese + fig or Margherita (mozzerlla, basil, and tomato) - Damn, good match, but the classic it is

Results:

White pears or Sausage (good Italian sausage, not chain stuff)
A tie.  Invoking organizer's privilege for tiebreak.

Green peppers or Chicken and onions
Good contest with votes on both sides.  I wonder how it would have turned out if I enabled "both" votes. Maybe in a few years...

Canadian bacon or Ham
Essentially a universal preference here (at least within this small pocket of it); only one differing vote and it's from the person who nommed it so it only partially counts for street cred.

Fresh goat cheese + fig or Margherita (mozzerlla, basil, and tomato)
A clean sweep, well liked both with added tomato sauce and without
