It's tough to tell from candidates what they really feel about the country, but being president isn't easy. I don't think anyone could accuse Obama of not working his ass off, whether they agree with him or not. The proof is in the pudding, as they say.
As much as I despise him, I'd never deny Dick Cheney loves his country. I hate his vision for the country, but he worked hard to make that vision a reality, and he wouldn't have bothered if he didn't care deeply for the sake of the country.
What makes it tough to judge Palin isn't her phoniness, I mean, she's a politician after all, but that she had no national presence, and seemingly no national vision previous to becoming a VP candidate.
