"More Xbox 360 JRPG love: Magna Carta sequel inbound"

Another Magna Carta hardly seems like 'love'...

Oddly enough, most of the gamers I've met in Japan do own 360s... Though, about 80% of all people that I've ever mentioned video games to in Japan have owned Wii's, so I suppose the 360 is definitely doing far worse comparatively. I still don't know anyone with a PS3... in Japan OR America.

The blog seems to completely forget that the Wii and PS3 have had a few JRPGs, too (Disgaea 3 and Fire Emblem 10 come to mind). Though the 360 does have a slight number more, it's not in the same vein as previous generations... yet.

360 at least has had 1 more than 1 or 2 decent ones that only just came out in the last couple of months though.

Edit - Not that I like this.  Fuck you again Nintendo.

Typical flame war over at Dissidia board, but I got extremely amused when I see people summoning Meeple for matters over FF9.

I know one guy with a PS3. He's your typical started-in-the-32-bit-era dipshit. Claims to love Final Fantasy but has only played the ones on PS, likes to ask where the FMVs in games are, adores all-flash, five-hour games, and so on.

This is why I lack a next-gen console and stick with my compy to play most newer games, and just stick with my good ol' PS2. Personally, I haven't seen or heard of many games that make me go "Damn, I wish I had that console". Notable exceptions being Metal Gear Solid 4, Lost Odyssey, and the newer sports games. Maybe a couple of shooters here and there that they make for X360 and PS3, I'm really not willing to shell out a crap load of money just for that though.

What really good RPG's are there for the PS3/X360/Wii??? I've heard nothing as of yet from anyone, which disappoints me. Damn you developers! Pick up the slack!

Also, I'm a weirder sort of gamer. I started with the 8-bit in 91/92, and then skipped the 16-bit era all together and got a PlayStation in '98. Hell, I barely knew of the Super Nintendo/Genesis. I grew up playing nothing but my NES until I was 9 years old.

There isn't a great deal of must have jRPGs on XBox, but there is enough that if you have the system I reccomend picking them up.  Blue Dragon is oddly decent and Enchanted Arms is definitely worth playing.  Not stand out amazing, either game but servicable and Enchanted Arms is quite possibly the best "First RPG on console!!!!" ever.  Obviously the competition for that title are amazingly bad.

Tales of Vesperia (X360) and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) are about the only good RPGs on next gen systems that I know of.  Disgaea 3 (if you like Disgaea anyways) and Valkyria Chronicles are supposedly good (both on PS3) but I can't say since I haven't played them yet.

What the fuck?

If they'd wanted to attack the design of female characters in games, okay, that would be a more than valid complaint. However, the article... pretty clearly treats female main characters, or even just strong female characters IN GENERAL, as some sort of distracting quirk, the only purpose of which is to be edgy and pander to new markets (how dare they try to attract more women gamers; gaming is a MAN's passtime).

With comments like that it's no wonder the game industry has some trouble being taken seriously.

The bitching about casual gaming was pretty bad too (so you don't like Brain Training; how the fuck does its existence hurt you?), but it had nothing on the above.

More people putting effort into Brain Training games means less people putting effort into other games!  Clearly!

I also liked the one about the Wii having the most releases and the most games rated under 4.0 (according to IGN)!

The Final Fantasy series has had its share of strong female characters, like Yuna in X-2 and now XIII. Again, it's a deliberate move (particularly X-2, which aimed at a female market with fashion-based equipment and magic-slotting).

Other examples of stupid.

Quote
Lesson learned: there are few things as needlessly arrogant as announcing a trilogy before the first game is out the door. Too Human, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Gears of War and Half-Life 2 Episodes, we're looking straight at you. Speaking frankly, look – there's nothing wrong with ambition. You want to make an epic, sprawling universe? That's totally fine. But start with getting the first game right and then let the market decide if it actually wants a sequel, let alone a trilogy. If your team is stuck under the thumb of three games in a row, you're looking at potentially between five and ten years of development time – which means you might be spanning two console generations – or more.

Building needless anticipation of an epic series also causes disappointment if eager adopters never get the final chapters. Shenmue, anyone? If the first game doesn't shift the units, then you've effectively shot yourself in the foot by creating a game that never ties up its storylines and leaves gamers disappointed and unsatisfied. Never announce a trilogy before you've proven yourself in the marketplace – or, do so at your own peril and at the expense of credibility and the potential loss of major dollars.

Worst Recent Offenders:
Too Human
Mass Effect
Assassin's Creed

Better way of putting it you retard, unoriginal IPs being spewed out again and again.  These are far worse than people trying to establish NEW FUCKING IPS YOU GODDAMNED MORONIC GUTTER SHIT.  Don't release a series until you have established yourself in the fucking market?  Bioware have no market presence?  EPIC HAS NO MARKET PRESENCE?  Say what you like about Gears of War, it has some serious pedigree.  Edit 2 - Oh yeah and there was totally no proven market for the Halflife 2 episodic content.

Follow that up with affordable production costs focusing on gameplay over your moronic Crysis style bump mapped penis engine and OH MY GOD THE DEMISE OF GAMING.

Edit - Wait I was wrong, they do say rampant sequels are bad and then go on to quote simulations and underwhelming series without taking a shit on their dumbarse downs syndrome posterchildren.  Where is the knocking of Crysis, Farcry 2, Halo 3, Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5, Silent Hill 5 and so on.

Edit 2  - Oh yeah and GOM THEY ALL USE UNREAL ENGINE complaint can go fuck itself as well.  As if that shit isn't old and played out.  It is part of the industry and having everyone code their own engines (when a lot of people aren't good at it!) is a bad thing.  Licensing an engine is a good thing.

The Chasers fairly commonly pick the best of the best for acted out stupidity.  Not certain on some of the clips though.  Most of the map ones should be loaded though....

For Jim's I really like that last paragraph.  Yep, there is some real double standards coming out from some areas on this.  Oh wait he wasn't referring to himself and saying that Obama shouldn't be like the only President to use him middle name?

http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2009/01/pro-life_group_up_in_arms_over.php

See, if the article was about "pro-life group up in arms over continued violence in the Middle East" or "pro-life group up in arms over continuing AIDS epidemic" I'd actually be happy.

But there's a reason this is IotD.

god in heaven above, people are just demented.

Fun fact: I've been meaning to post this for the last week or so, but I think my brain keeps on blocking it out because I always forget.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.
