Ah. That -is- a tortured analogy. ;)
In a sense, though, that is kind of what Obama is saying in his speech. But if you get at what the awarding committee said for an explanation, they're giving it to Obama because he has inspired, talked to, encouraged and facilitated international community. With that in mind, Obama's speech was a bit demurring. "Oh, yes, thank you, but I can't do it without you all." Of course he can't -- the award was given because what he did was get everyone to work on it together. His award for doing so, the world's award for being encouraged to do so by him. Does that make sense?
In other words, to further slice up your analogy, Obama was the quarterback, but it was -definitely- what he did that earned him the award, not what his people did -- even though he couldn't have won it unless the people responded as he directed/wished/hoped/planned.
