Eh.  My problem with CNN is less sensationalism and more... focus, I guess?  More times than I've cared to count I've checked CNN and the main news story they're promoting is something asinine like "WHAT THE AMERICAN IDOL JUDGES ARE REALLY SAYING" instead of something important.  They HAVE stories on those issues most of the time, but it's only sometimes their headliner.

I will admit that that they're all fairly similar, though.  Makes sense with Al Jazeera and the BBC, at least, since many of the initial staffers of Al Jazeera English were staff of a defunct BBC outlet. And when CNN reports on things people should give a shit about it is of a similar caliber.

Although CNN TV is nigh unwatchable nowadays.  Their reporting of Michael Jackson's death really turned me off to them.  After that happened the only "serious" programs seemed to be the hour of headlines and Fareed Zakaria's show.  It may have cooled down again but eh.  I don't have cable anymore.

EDIT:  And even then it was still better than the Daily fucking Mail.

So this should be a pretty good documentation for the death of an MMO.  Warhammer Online has had customers charged on days that are not their days of account renewal.  They have been charged multiple times.  So you have some people up to a couple of thousand dollars taken from their accounts in error.  Naturally there is the expected drama from that and it is all pretty fail.


But this is the internet, so what we are looking at here is the trolling.

Nothing like claims like "If you couldn't afford this you should have been working a second job instead of playing a game", because if you can't plan to handle being robbed then YOU SUCK AT ECONOMICS AND DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE.  I also love the implication that working 70 hour weeks makes you a better person  (Yes yes, I know that is what you should be doing in AMERICA.  EARNING MONEY.  WORKING HARD.  DYING STUPIDLY).  I just love it when people are blaming the victim.  Especially when some of the people charged had cancelled their subscriptions for the game, so you know they were not paying to play a game.

OH and bonus points for people with severe cases of battered wife syndrome that have had this happened before and are still going to stick with the game.  Also the ones that are pulling a "Mythic aren't at fault!!!!!" which doesn't change the situation at all and is blindly ignoring the fact that these people were customer's of Mythic/EA and they have been charged by an agent on behalf of Mythic/EA which pretty solidly places the blame on their shoulders.

Lots of fail here.

on a sadly completely unrelated note from the real world (if Wisconsin counts), a WI District Attorney has sent teachers a letter saying they may be prosecuted for teaching high school students contraceptive use, despite the current state curriculum, recently approved by the governor, allowing teaching of contraceptive use if it's paired with advice to remain abstinent, etc.  The charge, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, which he says is relevant because in WI it's a misdemeanor for kids under 18 to have sex at all.  The DA swears this is unrelated to any potential run for higher office.
