It isn't a good source, but it is at least funnier VSM.  Or you can just do google news if you want easy to digest news.

So about a week ago, Rush Limbaugh said he'd have an editorial in the WSJ today urging the president not to go through with a revival of the 'fairness doctrine' which mandates that radio stations present ideologically opposing views (and which was killed by Reagan and has never been revived).  Ok, that's fine.  Of course, Obama said last summer that he opposed a fairness doctrine revival, so it's not really an issue, but presidents don't always live up to their campaign promises, so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

On wednesday, the White House released its official stance:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/02/18/white-house-opposes-fairness-doctrine/

No fairness doctrine.  Clear enough.  Guess we won't be seeing that column frida--

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123508978035028163.html

Oh.

If you were ever in school, wrote a paper, and had to redo your thesis but felt kinda lazy about it, it might turn out like this.  Gone is the fairness doctrine, replaced with a variety of "contrivances, such as 'local content,' 'diversity of ownership,' and 'public interest' rules," which Rush is very concerned the president will use to kill AM radio.  One might expect that any of those three terms would be defined.

One might also suspect that when Limbaugh mentions a "new effort at regulating speech is not about diversity but conformity" championed by "a chorus of advocates for government control over radio content" that he may be able to, y'know, name one.  Bill Clinton, who is mentioned in the article, doesn't count, if all he did was complain about radio's content.

Limbaugh ends on this note: "We in talk radio await your answer. What will it be? Government-imposed censorship disguised as "fairness" and "balance"? Or will the arena of ideas remain a free market?"

Guess he forgot to revise that last sentence from his original article about the fairness doctrine.  Woulda been a real zinger in the original, I suppose.

Fail CNBC.  You get 2 economic theorists on your show, like actual high class fucking intellectuals here, not business whores, actual smart people who called this shit years ago and what do they ask? "Where would you invest?"  You can see the shock in their faces in "Are you serious?  I am saying we need to completely restructure our economy and you want to know what to invest in?"  Dumbest fucking questions I have seen in ages.  It is essentially a pure embodiment of everything that lead to the business sector causing the economic crisis in the first place.

What fucktards the media were there. The two guests come to intelligently discuss the problems and answer their questions. All the media does is ignore them, continuously cut them off when they're trying to explain just what is wrong with the economy and the questions they're asking, and what needs to be done to save the damn world. Then the media proceeds to ask what that has to do with the questions they asked and want investment advice. "I just spent the last 10 minutes explaining why you SHOULDN'T be investing... what the hell is wrong with you people?"

I would've walked off the show right then and there. But then again, NBC and companies like that wouldn't want the system to change so maybe they had those retarded questions prepped for if the guests actually tried to tell the public what needs to be done. I mean NBC would have to change the way everything is done if people knew about and supported the changes that have to be done, and what money-hungry, powerful corporation wants that?

I doubt it is anything sinister there.  They usually just have the kind of market mouth whores on there that are the type that caused the financial collapse.  They just can't really adapt to the changing environment where you need to get people with 2 neurons firing answering questions instead of "Oh look this marketting strategy is QUITE bullish ohohohohohohohoh by war bonds."  Don't look for anything sinister when criminal stupidity will suffice.

Woman banned from Xbox live for identifying herself as lesbian.

Man told that he can't use his actual surname on Xbox live because it is offensive (his name contains the word gay).

Presumably to cover themselves against lawsuits, Microsoft makes it a bannable offense to be straight, too!

That is retarded. Just, straight up unnecessary. It's his NAME FFS, and it wouldn't take much for him to prove that either.

The others though, it does mention in the TOS that you can't put anything of a sexual nature, or even hint things involving sex and sexuality in your gamertag/profile. Gay or straight. Don't get me wrong, I still think its stupid what M$ did, but they did put it in their Terms of Service, so you can't really fight that.

Though I've seen far more offensive crap in tags and profiles before... >_> (Clan tags that look like dicks, and etc) so I can't believe that they're only hitting this part of the issue.

The whole thing is really offensive all around. The idea that I could be banned for something like... listing my gender as 'male' and then stating that 'I like Ivy from Soul Calibur because she's hot'... is really annoying on a low level, but it becomes really offensive when I think that an already-persecuted sector of gamers can be punished because they aren't hiding their sexuality well enough.

I'd stumbled across the whole debate on slashdot yesterday, but at this point, everyplace I see it come up again, it's the same argument between one faction who says that mentioning your sexuality makes you an attention-seeking drama queen crusader and the other faction which essentially calls that group 'homophobes in denial spouting off Bill O'Reilly rhetoric'.  And then there's this third group of idiots who spend all their time arguing about the definition of 'profile' and what should go on one...

If anyone caught this bit of conservative propaganda astroturf lately here it is reported by Exile.  Rick Santelli and his new Boston Tea Party thing over the government bailout package (Because giving money to people other than the mega corporations is like taxing people who have no representatives in government).

Quote
It was now 9:35 am and Katz was finishing, right on schedule. He invited people to throw their tea bags into a pot of water (throwing tea bags into the ocean would be littering and illegal) and yell out their anti-tax demands. The whole thing was pathetic and over very quickly, thankfully.

YES!  YOU MAKE A GIANT POT OF TEA!  FIGHT THE POWER!  TRUE TEA PARTY SPIRIT.  MAKE THE STRONGEST POT OF TEA EVER MADE!  IN YOUR FACE OBAMA OR MORE LIKE OTHEMAN!  IT IS A PUN, A PLAY ON WORDS.

This really isn't a superhero movie at all. In fact, there was little "superheroing" until after the second hour of this nearly three-hour exercise on defining deviancy down.

OH SNAP THE CURTAIN HAS BEEN LIFTED FROM MY EYES.  WATCHMEN WASN'T ABOUT SUPERHEROES.

Edit - I have no concept of your "Speculative fiction" that you speak of.  "World building" is for wankers and degenerates.

And of course MOVIE RATED R.  I STRONGLY RECCOMEND YOU DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS MOVIE.  Thanks for showing us the light there hard right!

This is why conservatives have a tough problem today. The pop culture undermines faith, family and freedom.
Okay, I agree with the complaints about faith--Watchmen is a story of cynicism, which is the opposite of faith.  Family...well certainly the movie is not "family friendly".

Freedom, though?  The entire article was "I don't want movies to display X, Y, Z, W, P, Q, or R".  Movies can display whatever they want--this is freedom of speech.  For that matter, objecting to lesbians is objecting to personal freedom.  Superheroes hurling obscenities?  Sounds like they're expressing their freedom to use whatever words they want.

Freedom (Fuh-ree-dum) n: A term expressing the inalienable rightness and awesomeness of a bald eagle shitting upon all who doubt the ineffable rightness and awesomeness of Americans.  Also know as the right of Americans to do whatever they feel like and maintain moral superiority whilst the rest of the world can go and suck it up.
