I'm fully expecting this Swine flu thing to blow over like West SARS Nile did.

It should be noted that, although the swath of deaths in Mexico seems high, seasonal Influenza kills thousands of people a year. I'm not saying that we shouldn't take steps to contain the outbreak (which is, admittedly, largely WHY SARS and West Nile Virus didn't do more damage), but the whole panic is just stupid.

This is a terminology problem for America: we have no way of distinguishing people who have been here a while with people who are just off the boat. Obviously he doesn't fit the traditional definition of African-American, because it doesn't imply having ever lived in Africa at all. Asian-American is probably even murkier as a category.

That case is more an idiocy problem than a terminology problem. The university had no right to suspend there in any case. If the lawsuit's true as claimed, they deserve idiot of the year.
