White African American isn't so bad, my friend is an Indian (India, not Native American variety) born in Africa.

African American always struck me as a poor choice for a race name, anyhow.  You're naming yourself after...a continent and a country?  What about black people who move to Canada--do they cease being African Americans?  What about native Australians (who, while technically not the same race, have similarly dark skin so most people wouldn't know the difference)--would they be African American if they moved to America?

I mean, the politically correct sequence went something like...

Negro->Black->African American

What was the problem with Black that made it necessary to changed a second time?

Because they're not black, they're dark brown!!!  Granted this doesn't seem to apply to "Whites", although they do often get the "Caucasian" label (which has inherent problems of its own).

And then you have "Hispanic", which is not even a race - it's an ethnicity.

Color-coding has the central problem that colors stand for more than just racial categories.  Black is still within spitting distance of acceptability because it's fairly commonly used, but Yellow?  Red?  Not helping.  All of those three colors stand rather prominently for negative characteristics in common use that have nothing to do with race.

I don't get the sense that Americans are particularly concerned about the many seams and cracks in the prominent racial categories we use.  The idea of the country as a melting pot really does shape our racial perceptions.  We have it in our heads that the natural and correct progression of immigrants is assimilation.  The idea of subdividing our existing racial categories for the sake of accuracy is a step backward in our minds.  Each category represents a possibility for friction, so the fewer categories the better.  Italians, English, and Germans have certainly gotten along better in the US since they all started being plain old Caucasians, after all.

The topic itself is innocent enough (Though calling Queen Zeal hard as hell...well, I couldn't help but respond to that <.<)...but one of the first responses deserves this.  At first it looks like a typical "call the game by its actual name!" asstacular response, but...well, you'll see <_<

I found Queen Zeal rather hard.  Mostly because I went through the Black Obelisk probably earlier than I was supposed to (before getting Crono back) and had no revival left by the time I got to her.

Though labelling her as an "optional superboss" right next to Emerald Weapon is...what?  Seriously, what?

Well, ok, I'll grant fighting Zeal ASAP (like before you get Crono back) WOULD make her an actual fight, but she's clearly scaled to be faced after the rest of the fated hour (Black Omen is obviously geared to be the final dungeon, despite being optional.  The fact that it leads DIRECTLY TO LAVOS makes that clear.  Admittedly, you wouldn't know that it leads to Lavos until you revived Crono, where Gaspar out and out states this fact); this would in turn make your equipment clearly subpar and remove a lot of levels you'd normally have, thereby neutering your team in all ways.

Though, yeah, can't see her being Emerald Weapon level unless you did an LLG Minimalist run...which you tehcnically can't face Zeal in anyway...

That's what happen if people learn just a little bit of theory and don't really understand it but try to apply it to things anyway.

Funniest thing I've read in a long time.

I dunno how seriously we're supposed to take it (I mean, yeah, I too would prefer if Zerg units had quotes in spoken English...beyond infested terran/overmind.  I also thought the vilification of the Zerg in the plotline was a bit weird when Zerg were by far Blizzard's best race idea...like...ever.  So I can definitely relate to "Blizzard is trying to make us hate the zerg :(" complaints.  But then there's arguments where Starcraft gameplay gets compared to orgasms...and then this orgasmic gameplay is used as supporting evidence to try and vilify Starcraft.  I can't read that as anything but humor).

http://www.unomaha.edu/jrf/superman.htm

An article about how Superman = Jesus. While the concept itself is fine, this author's first piece of evidence "Divine Paternity" fails hard. He essentially presents the idea that because Superman has a father, it's obviously meant to show that Superman is Jesus.

Quote
David Bruce considered the infant Kal-El (Lee Quigley) to be the only begotten son of Jor-El (Marlon Brando), thus forming the second member of the Holy trinity (Matt. 28:19).12 Kal-El was the son of Jor-El just as Jesus was the Son of God (Mark 1:1; Heb. 10:29; 1 John 4:15). Indeed, in Superman II  (hereafter S2), Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) described Superman (Christopher Reeve) as the son of Jor El thereby mimicking the biblical form. To further establish the paternity of the Jor-El/Kal-El, God/Jesus, Father/Son relationship, the holographic Jor-El in the newly constructed Fortress of Solitude specifically referred to Kal-El as my son and to himself as your father. Their indissoluble genetic link was further indicated by their respective hairstyles. The stately Jor-El, the teenage Clark Kent (Jeff East) and the adult Superman (but not the adult Clark Kent) had cute forelocks dangling upon their foreheads. This biological fact resonated with Jesuss identity claim that: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also (John 14:7).

I stopped reading after this, maybe it gets better... >.>;;

Eh.  "Jor-el sent his only son to earth" then his son did some crazy shit is vaguely biblical.  It's not that much fail.

You obviously need to read more 1970s Feminist Literary Criticism.  They compared EVERYTHING to orgasms.  Serious article is sadly probably serious.

Apparently girls don't know that the consequences of sex include babies.  Go figure.

To be clear, that's Bristol Palin, the one who had the teen pregnancy last year (or the year before? I'm blocking out as much of that as I can.). So she's not just assuming how stupid kids are these days - she's saying she really didn't know this.

Guess I coulda clarified that it was here.  Regardless, is she seriously trying to say that she didn't know she could get pregnant if she had sex?  I'm at a loss here.

I initially assumed it was Sarah Palin, because it would be more than dumb enough coming from her, but the truth is even more hilarious/depressing/disturbing.

what the fuck who listens to Marilyn Manson in 2009

I liked this article because it was kind of nice to see the reactions to a school shooting being something other than "he was such a -nice- boy, I'd never have expected it."

Apparently his friends were more like "Well, we always knew he was kinda crazy about Hitler, but we never thought he'd actually -do- it!"

Sidenote: AAA's reaction was the best inappropriate punchline.
