I dunno, all the stuff I've had recently has been from the same sites I'm always on.  Let's just chalk it up to the world having a bad week and hope the next one's better.  I say, as it's 45 degrees and raining here, and will be through Monday.  c'est la vie.

For me, it's depressing that so much awful stuff goes on, but it's genuinely heartening that, when bad shit happens, people care.  I mean, we don't know this poor couple just trying to get married, but we can at least spare them a little of our sympathy and outrage.  That's a good sign for humanity.

EDIT: intersting point, mc, the plaintiffs trying to establish gay marriage have made the following argument (among others): that heterosexual marriage is discrimination on the basis of sex because it allows men ONLY to marry women and vice versa.  That argument has been shot down by, I believe, every court that's heard it, including the ones that have mandated gay marriage.  Same argument has successfully been used to quash laws forbidding interracial marriage, however.

To be honest, it actually sounds like a fairly good deal for some of these people due to the social mistreatment they get back home.  Although the fact that they face social mistreatment for being short is pretty *headdesk* worthy.

Granted. Factory jobs have (or had) taken such a grip over there because even city wages can sometimes be worse. 120*6=... 720 yuan? Yeah, that's pretty decent over there, all things considered; I know for a fair few restaurants around my end of town, the wage for the waitresses and waiters could range from $150 on the high end, to $25-50 on the low.
