Jessica Albert (DQ8) vs. Zeromus (FF4) - Hmm... I can see why some people would want to throw out the prelude fight with Zeromus, and it's not actually relevant most of the time, but since Jessica comes from a game with the same mechanic ("use an item to unseal the real final boss,") it seems more reasonable here. Even when it's allowed, it's normally not a big deal due to Black Hole, but it is a wasted turn for Zeromus. Anyway, if you allow the warm-up fight, Jessica tenses to 100, then casts the mother of all Accelerates (yes, it counts Tension too). She tenses back to 100, starts the real fight, and at this point she should be fast enough (something like 400% average speed?) such that she'll go before Zeromus can Black Hole it away. (If she has trouble hitting 100 and the Accelerate expires, just re-cast Accelerate from 100 and try again. It's not like MP is a problem with the Staff regenerating MP every round to get back to full.)
It's still somewhat close with no prelude battle. Jessica is harmed by the fact that she can't use Kaboom without triggering a Flare counter (and Twin Dragon Lash would reduce her max MP), but I think she does have one turn to play with before Magic Burst (Zeromus uses either Shake->Big Bang->Virus or Virus x3, and Jessica is fast enough that she should get in two turns edgewise). So a Thin Air Attack, I guess. Magic Burst is 1.53 PCHP damage, Thin Air is .18 PCHP damage, for ~1.71 PCHP total (This is ignoring Dragon Soul, mind.). I don't think that's quite enough (Zeromus is around 1.8 PCHP-2.0 to me?), but I allow the prelude fight anyway, and someone with less Zeromus HP respect (giving Cecil the Crystal Sword rather than the Excalibur for example) could reasonably call it for Jessica.
Great fight though.
Margulis (XSs) vs. Rena Lanford (SO2) - Amusing note of fail: The clones, if you could do average damage that was all holy, are pretty much OHKOed in game. Which means that in the DL, they get OHKOed by 1/3 average damage (if holy). Rena's Star Flare is apparently 1/5 average damage or so. Which means... there's a serious possibility a clone might survive Star Flare and Medica Margulis, which means that Rena could literally never win. Anyway, assuming that the clones are OHKOed by Star Flare, Margulis still has all the time in the world to build up to 3 Boost and unleash a 4-hit chain with the final 3 hits coming while Rena is Down and taking double damage. Yeah, only Godlikes stand a chance of surviving that.
