Edit - You know on reflection it couldn't be to bad.  It might be worth it for a laugh since under her own policies she would have to be impeached.
As long as she managed to legalize gay marriage and sign the Kyoto accord before being impeached, it probably would be worth the approximate 3 months she'd last in office.... >_>

Speaking of poetic justice, under Alaska law, Ted Stevens is probably ineligable to vote for himself because he's a felon who hasn't served his sentence.  Not entirely sure whether that applies since he hasn't yet been sentenced or exhausted his appeals, but amusing nonetheless.

OK, so there's been a video released that shows that Obama does not have a fundamental grasp of the roles of the Supreme courts, along with wealth redistribution nonsense.  McCain's October Surprise, if you will.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iivL4c_3pck

See, there's a problem with this, though.  The audio is spliced up and taken out of context, and on the actual program he's sort of saying the opposite.
The radio program's blog:

Oy.

I listened to the full audio program first, so maybe I had a better idea of the context, but that video didn't seem to be implying anything about Obama's understanding of the supreme court.  In fact, it was mostly "he just said Redistribution of Wealth.  OMG Communist!"

"The supreme court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and social and economic justice.  To that extent as radical as people try to paint the Warren court, it wasn't that radical.  It didn't break free from the constraints that were placed by the Founding fathers on the constitution."

Spliced together and taken out of any sort of context like this it seems to try to imply that he doesn't know what the Supreme court does to me.  Granted the weath distribution bollocks is what you're supposed to focus on but an implied ignorance of the Supreme court isn't nonexistant.

If you are a capitalist then anything where the top 1% of the population doesn't own more than 90% of the wealth then you are living in a socialist haven full of filthy disgusting communists.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/10/31/palin/index.html

I assume Sarah Palin, like most candidates, Obama included, is talking down on the stump, expressing issues without a nuance that is accurate but politically inconvenient.  I have to assume that because the alternative doesn't add up to a governorship, even in a tiny state population-wise.  But this?  This makes me rethink that.

The text in question:

Palin: "If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

audio: http://www.tinyrevolution.com/mt/archives/Palin.mp3

Leave aside, completely forgive the fact that yes, saying things about your opponent designed to get people not to vote for them is the very definition of negative campaigning.  That's just spin, right?  No one wants to admit they're negative campaigning, so we let that slide.

...

IT'S THE FIRST AMENDMENT!  IT'S THE FIRST!  FUCKING!  AMENDMENT!  IT'S THERE SO THAT THE MEDIA CAN CRITICIZE POLITICIANS!  THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON FOR ITS EXISTENCE!  HER INTERPRETATION OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT IS THE OPPOSITE!  THE ACTUAL 180-DEGREE OPPOSITE!  OF WHAT IT IS.

The idea there's still a chance this woman could become president sickens me.  This is the oath of office of the President of the United States:

I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

It's disgusting that there's a very real chance that someone with apparently no concept of what the first amendment does could be reading this oath within the next few years.

Hah, like politicians haven't been fired for doing that in the last 8 years with regards to the last 8 years worth of government anyway.  Although yes, the lack of understanding of the concept of Liberty she has is mind boggling.

It fits with the standard tax structure they have though.  Why stop at just benefitting the privelidged with regards to money when you can give them rights and take them away from the poor?  I mean these are the people in power, surely they are the only ones that can be right and have anything worth hearing anyway.

Did anyone early vote, or are you all just caddywalking your DSs and PSPs in line election day in hopes of battling someone else who conveniently brought their systems?

In another country, so I absentee voted a couple weeks ago.  Kinda wish I could have done it before I left, for a two reasons.

1.  No option to do it through postal mail, only via E-mail.  Not so bad, since there is a paper trail for this (They send me a PDF, I print it out, re-scan it, send it back, "they" print it out and scantron it), but requests to confirm that my ballot has been registered have gone gotten... only vague answers.  I'm only really concerned because the address that I e-mailed my application to, the addy I got the ballot from, and the addy I e-mail questions to are all different.  All clearly from my county clerk's office, but since they didn't specify an address I only have a guess as to which one I was supposed to send it to.  I asked and said they didn't matter, but I am paranoid.
2.  There was a requirement that I get the ballot notorized.  The nearest legal notary is in London, and in addition to having to pay the 60 quid for a return rail ticket I'd have to pay for the notary.  I inquired about this (and about how this wasn't in a way a poll tax) and my county clerk's office said it was fine as long as there was a witness signature, but there's so much potential for mischief there that my rampant paranoia is in full swing.

If I get past the paranoia there's really not much there to be worried about, but... yeah.  I would feel more at ease had I been able to do it in person, which was not an option at the date I left the country.

Through a completely coincidental turn of events, I have Tuesday off of work. So whatever, I'll just bring a book when I go. Doesn't matter how long lines are if I have something to read.

Delaware doesn't have early voting and the lines are generally nonexistent anyway, so I'm just going to stop in at the polls before I go to work on tuesday.

Apparently, the hospital gives us time to go to the polls in the hospital.  Like, actual free time we're allowed to take.  It's weird.    So yeah, voting on Tuesday.

New York has no early voting, so I'll be braving the lines Tuesday.  We'll see if I have time to head back to Manhattan for the big Democrat shindig or not.
