I think the most important issue is balance.  New people can do Mafia, but it helps having someone else to look over set-ups to make sure things are fair.

I prefer anonymous Mafias, since that allows...for less, "hay you are acting like a scum like you always do lol" from happening.  Themes also add more flavour.

Yoshi's British, he can't help it.

I ask so that maybe those of us who want to play again and those of us who want to run but want x amount of members know what's sort of important to keep in mind.

Anonymous mafias are clearly superior, not that I actually play. <_<

Anonymous mafia = scum win.

Doesn't matter to me though, as I can work out who everyone is easily :D

It's fair that people wouldn't want to play a game with untested mods. There have been some crazy and crappy setups around here. I'd know, I've run one of them >.>

Heh, sorry if that came out worse than intended, Alex.
I can understand the logic behind it, yeah, but it's just... well, my personal opinion is that a new mod should have the setup checked by someone more familiar with Mafia first. Assuming that's all been done, then surely it shouldn't matter how new/unknown the mod is, right?

Hmm... Anonymous is better..? I think I could change the IdentiMafia to be anonymous as well... Would that raise interest in that, or do people just not like the idea of playing something that's new to the DL?

Yoshi, I also tend to agree with Alex.  Although, it's not a matter of if the person is new to running a game or not, but if I expect them to, from what I know of them, be able to run a good game.  So, for example, if MC decided to run a Mafia game, I'd be likely to join since not only would it be likely to be balanced, but it'd also be likely to be an interesting and one of a kind experience that would be fun to go through.

As for anonymous vs. regular, I think I slightly prefer anonymous.  No strong opinion on themes.

Mainly who's modding and playing in it.

qft

Theme can override this, but it has to be a killer theme.

I actually prefer regular to anonymous, mostly because with anonymous I always worry I'll draw a character who I don't know well enough to rp.  Which I suppose ties back to theme.

(And no, I'm not watching/playing something just to rp a Mafia character.  Mafia is a lot of effort as it is. ;) )

Theme and time constraints are the biggest determinants to me.  I'd rather play, say, Xenogears Mafia with a questionable setup than "Thing I don't know so I miss all the references Mafia" that's perfectly run.

BTW, Dungeon Mafia sounds awesome.

Alex has been unusually busy, so while his idea isn't dead, he also won't be running it for a while yet.  So, I'll be tossing something together.

Villain's Anonymafia, signups coming to a forum near you, this Monday/Tuesday.

I'm going to run Metal Gear mafia sometime in the future after My-Hime mafia on the other forum finishes.

Setup will be wildly nonstandard. Watch this space.

It seems that things have started back up again here.  So I'll slap in either a small D&D Alignment Mafia which will be loot and entertainment based, or a Valkyrie Profile Mafia where death is only the beginning after Rat's game.  If people have a preference, please do tell me now!

So, I spent part of my time in college today reading over some of the old games. I'd definitely love to see another Random Mafia or something like it, where the mod chooses roles for the people to act out (and maybe have it where people are guessing the characters, like some kind of reverse AnonyMafia?)

Edit: Gah. Guess I'll put this here. I'm running a Mafia game on another forum, and I've got 4/15 players moving towards a modkill. I'm guessing 2, at least, should show up in time, but I'm really not sure on the other two. Anyone who'd be interested in taking over able to PM me? Characters up for modkill so far are Celes, Fujin, Jill Valentine and Tabby (from .hack//), so include order of preference. Game is Anonymous role madness in a similar vein to the Villainous Mafia that just finished here.

Something non-Anon would be nice.  I never play the Anons.

So. Internet Meme Anonymafia. Would anyone object if I cut in line(or what passes for a "line" for games around here) and opened up signups for this to run after Yoshi's game is done?

That avatar has GOT to go, Gate.  It's seriously horrifying due to your GMly machinations.  Or are you trying to squick me?

Oh, and hate for you finding something that I'd even consider playing anon.

Doesn't that rather defeat the purpose of ANONYmafia there, toro?

I have never once in my history of Mafia managed to disguise who I am in any Anonymafia game, here or elsewhere. Period. I won't hold my breath for this game. But fine, just for that I'm withdrawing. :p

I'm still working on planning a large game, but if folks prefer Gate's game first that's fine too.

Alex, you're almost ready to go to bat?

Well, if you are, you can go in front of me.  Otherwise, I'm ready for the next game I'm gonna run.

Holding off on VP Mafia for now so I can pull out the old school DL Mafia.

Scenario:

For reasons no one has been able to figure out, a bunch of non-RPG characters have snuck into the DL, posing as some really obscure characters.  Normally, TG Cid or some other rational symbol of law and justice would deal with this, and it'd be over quickly.  Unfortunately, Zidane and Edge have just unveiled their latest atrocity, and that means the sane people are busy.  This means that everything is left in the hands of Luca Blight and Kefka.

So, step one, gather everyone who may potentially be an imposter and lock 'em all in a quarantine bay and have them kill each other, Mafia style, for the amusement of those powerful nutbars.  Of course, because these are all obscure characters, they care more about watching them kill each other than actually figuring out who shouldn't be here, and so the winning team will be declared not the imposters and let free.

This will not be Anonymous, but will be the old style of themed Mafia.  Where everyone gets a character, and powers will be character appropriate, even if it isn't straightforwardly so.

Also, days will be 72 hours, aside from Day 1.  I've really come to like how those longer days let you have a bit more of a life outside of Mafia.  And, letting the days time out will end badly, because it means that Luca and Kefka have gotten bored.  And when they get bored, they consult with Hatbot then kill stuff.
