I remember the group being a little more than 50/50 on this when I asked a few years back, so definitely interested to hear changes. I just got mine yesterday (See good morning), wondering how many others don't.

Nope. Driving cars makes me allergic to existence; I can do it and do so competently but I apparently go into this mental state where I am a complete and utter paranoid wreck for the next hour after I'm done. So um. Yeaaah. I value my brain more than I value speed in getting anywhere, and I can walk to anywhere in my home city in under four, five hours tops, so.

I've got a L1 license from the state of Michigan which isn't even valid anymore, but hey, whatevs.

One year short of being able to get a license. Next March, I can finally go to the wheel.

Yep, I'm licensed. I don't own a car and am moving to freaking New York City in two months, but it's still a good skill to have every now and then.

Got a car, I technically own one too for all that my parents take care of the billing, etc.  Mostly just drive it to work and for some errands or to friend's houses, but the latter two don't happen too frequently (I usually try to consolidate trips; where I work is on a local highway, so I can get a lot of stuff done on the way to/from work.)

You don't reach age 18 in Texas without a license, even if you don't have a car or are a bike riding hippie.  It's just not done.  Things are too far apart out here, unless you're a student or an established professional who never needs to go anywhere.

On the other hand, since I moved up here to Washington, I can reach whatever I need with public transportation or walking and I've let my license lapse because it's way more expensive to own a car and drive.

Same as Alex, kinda. You mostly have to get a license in Jersey. Driver's Ed was a required course at my high school. Haven't driven in a while though, since NYC is awesome about public transportation. Most of what I've done lately is tow my Dad's boat around and back it into/bring it out of the lake. Backing a trailer is a fine skill to have though.

I have a license, for all the good it does me.  Though, see Alex:  if you're in New Mexico and don't have a driver's license, you have a hard fuckin' time getting around.  Sure, you can manage in Albuquerque thanks to the mediocre bus system, but try to get anywhere else?

Oh well.  At least everybody else will probably be in the same boat in 15 years.  Ha-ha.  Energy crisis.

Michigan, despite the lack of deserts, is also spread apart and not having a vehicle and the licence to use it is a serious handicap.  Heck, I live five miles from the nearest grocery store, I need a car if I want dinner (in theory.  In practice we have many freezers).

Licenses cost a crazy amount over here, preferring to save what I have for other things. Can manage city life and the occasional visit outside without a car easily enough.

Same as Alex. There's no transportation system unless you live in Des Moines, and even then it's like one bus every 7 hours or some bullshit like that. A car is essential.

Depends partly on where in Brisbane you live and work and the kind of job, but for my lifestyle public transport is superb.  If I worked in the industrial sector I would probably need one though.

No license for me because I am paranoid about my vision and whatnot.  Technically feasible, but not something I want to risk.

I do drive. It's my.. 3rd year driving now? I'm used to heavy traffic because of living in Atlanta, annnnd, I have the road rage of a Chicagoan when people do stupid stuff on the roads. I never drive if I don't have to? Go to the store three times a day because I forgot to get something? Neeeever.

I don't have a license.  Mostly because the transit here is good enough that I don't usually need to, and because they stuck in a graduated licensing system two weeks before I could apply for a license.  The knowledge that it would take me two years instead of six months killed a good chunk of the little enthusiasm I had.

Though, given how much travelling I do of late, and how tight my schedules are getting, the idea of being able to drive is getting more and more appealing.  I blame it on the damned hill I need to climb up every week to game now that the bus has effectively dissapeared due to construction.

Licensed, woo. Have been for nearly a decade now? Which means I can't be too far away from needing another renewal. Crap.

For all that Vancouver does have a pretty excellent transit system, I find the added freedom of a car pretty nice to have anyway. Granted, I can often swipe one of a parent's car for, say, visiting friends, and occasionally going to work (due to where my work is situated on transit lines, car is a significant time saving), which helps.

Also generally feel it is a useful life skill and would recommend most people learning/getting a license, unless it really is very expensive as for Tonfa (it's not, here. Lessons can be pricy, licensing not really).

I can't even drive. I simply lost my willingness to learn to drive just as I turned 18, possibly due to the accident my mother had back when I was still in high-school. Nowadays, I'm feeling the need to learn, but learning to drive and getting a license is stupid expensive. And I can cope with walking and taking the bus, so.

I can't do anything without a car. I had the same car now for 4 years and it's been pretty dependable.  I got pretty screwed on the payments though.

Not yet. Was planning to this summer, but I live with parents still, and we won't have the money to buy, insure, and fuel a car for me anyways. I live less than an hour's walk from a bunch of different stores, and I've got plenty of friends and relatives who drive.

I'll probably have one by next summer, since you can have a car on campus once you get to sophomore year at Messiah, though I'm still not sure if I'll be able to have one. It would be nice being able to drive someone else's car in case the need arises though, and it doesn't exactly seem too difficult from what little practice I've had.
