I have to admit, I'm surprised; when I heard a new SaGa game was coming, I figured it'd be a Romancing SaGa 2 remake, after the Seven Heroes got appearances in Lords of Vermillion 2.

I highly doubt Summoners are happening in this game; it would probably take up too much memory to make unique designs for each and...well, you get where I'm going.   Remember, this is STILL a PSP game, and I'm sure they're already cutting down on plot and dialog as is (probably items too?  Dissidia was cool for having such diverse items, but there really were TOO GOD DAMN MANY with a lot of redundancy in the system, especially for Trading Components.  They could have easily cut down that item list in half and not suffered on gameplay much) to get more room for Character Models, and new attacks and such.

Though, as I've stated in the past, Yuna's X-2 form would fit into Dissidia rather well.  Even has a logical EX Form...for all that I'm sure MOST OF US prefer to forget about it.

Lightning's EX Mode seems to be Gestalt Mode, not shockingly (...no pun intended), and Zantetsuken apparently has already been confirmed her EX Burst, with a Gestalt mode style Mini game!

Releasing Lightning next to Kain also suggests they're forgoing the Rivalry theme that Dissidia 1 had.  I mean, why else would they have Kain next to Lightning?

Surprised to see PE games get a resurrection, but hopefully this means that SE might throw a few more very unexpected sequels down the pipeline!

PE: 3rd Birthday has been known for at least 2 years or so (since the Sque-enix Party of 08, at least), just there hasn't been much info on it since then, though that may be because the instant it was first announced, they didn't really have much beyond an initial trailer, just to go "Yes, we're making this game, and yes, we're serious about it.  This won't be another Chrono Break!"

Edit: Aside.  Does that announcement have anything in the way of what new content the game will get?  I can't imagine they'd be content with rebalances and giving them the slim US additions (although on the other hand I'm aware the existing game is pretty well as large as you can make a PSP game)

Fresh from Japanese gaming blog Remoon, we have the keynotes from the Famitsu Interview with Nomura, including information the entirely new battle element - The Assist System. Here is the bulletin translated -

    * Kouichi Yamadera will reprise his role as Kain
    * Sugawara Bunta will reprise his role as Cid
    * Lightning will be able to use Paradigm Shifts (Optima Changes in the Japanese version), changing between Commando (Attacker), Ravager (Blaster), and Medic (Healer) using L and R.
    * The new Assist System allows you to call in an ally, allowing for up to four characters to be on the field at once.
    * Pressing L+O when one bar of the Assist Gauge will summon an ally for one Brave Attack. Pressing L+□ when both bars are full to summon them for an HP Attack.
    * Assists can break combos.
    * (Translator's Note: I'm not entirely sure about the next two items, but it sounds like you can't use the Assist System while in EX-Mode.)
    * Pursuit times have been made shorter.
    * All the characters from the previous game will return.
    * Kain and Lightning are not the only new characters. It will be more than just a few.
    * All characters will have three costumes. (1 Normal and 2 Alternates each)
    * There will be new summons added.
    * All the maps from the first game are back and there will be twice as many music tracks.
    * Communications Mode (AKA 2 Player Mode) has been stregthened.
    * Save Data from the first game can be transfered over.
    * The meaning behind "012" is a spoiler.
    * The details about the Story Mode and the system it will use are a secret.
    * There will be more retro/original game music tracks.
    * Release is not too far off.
    * A secret gameplay element will debut in the TGS Demo.

The original mech is called Rushbird, and for the first time since J, we start out with a super robot. Woohoo!

Our main lost his parents during the Giant's War which was 5 years before the start of Godannar's story. He was also apparently born right around Second Impact.

Rushbird is equipped with an energy-absorption mechanism called the 'Laplace Wall', making it very strong against energy weapons. A part of the energy absorbed is used to power the robot.

New partner system gimmicks:
-Nothing changed when partnered. All things retain from K.
-When single, you can gain assists from adjacent units (old style assisting).
-No mentioning about how combos are gonna work. Perhaps same as K.
-You can change your partner units in-stage by moving adjacent to another unit.
-New 'Individual Attack' implemented, allowing the main unit and the sub unit to attack both enemy units at the same time. Main attacks main, sub attacks sub.
