But yeah, I'd buy that in English also.  FFL2 was the best of the original 3, and still holds up well today.

Eh, I think FFL3 is the best of the original 3, but... it's kind of generic, so I'm really glad they picked FFL2 instead.  It's a game that with a bunch of extra polish and stuff could turn out being a notable improvement.

Did I mention polish when talking about a SaGa game?  Oops~

SaGa3 isn't really SaGa though.

Just from a quick glance, SaGa 2 looks to be the game that's most similar to SaGa Frontier, so I'm all for this getting a remake. I'm hoping it gets the FF3DS treatment and some of the random party members are given actual personalities...

They could also add a recruitment element... and multiple mains... hell, why don't they just remake SaGa Frontier dammit...

Because it is SaGa and they can't run the risk of making an honest to gods GOOD game in the series.  Everything has to be promising and massively unforgivabley flawed or just garbage from the get go.

If that's the case, RS2 and RS3 would take precedence anyway....

Do the RS games have the same race system as SaGa 2 and SaGaFrontier?

The race system was probably my favorite part of SaGa Frontier - I always found it interesting to see the different methods that were used to strengthen each type of character. Since the races of SaGa Frontier are pretty much directly copied from SaGa 2 (with the exception of Espers/Mystics, and I actually like the Esper system better), I'm really excited to see SaGa 2 getting a remake. Hopefully it'll even become playable. If nothing else, I'd like to see the dialogue between the main hero and Father change depending on if you make the hero a 'son' or a 'daughter' (or 'robot').

The multiple main hero and recruitment aspects of SaGa Frontier were also interesting, but it's still the race system that really drew my attention.

Another question on the RS games - did they feature the same 'multiple mini-worlds' kind of setting that SaGa 1, 2, and Frontier did?

Another scan for the SaGa 2 DS remake.

Male Esper looks cool. Mecha is adorable. I'm digging the art for this.

Okay, since there's a stupidly huge amount of RPGs coming out for the DS (and Wii) in the next two months, thought I'd sum them up here.  Info comes from Nintendo Power, which put out a nice RPG issue that's almost worth the exorbitant cover price.

Suikoden: Tierkreis (DS)

Standard Suiko-stuff, but there is an alternate realities/parallel worlds motif.  You can send your characters into another player's game via wi-fi or local wireless, where they will do missions (think FFT jobs) and get items and experience.  There is also a side-story and special boss that can only be encountered via wi-fi play.

Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (DS)

Mario & Luigi get shrunk and stuck inside Bowser's body.  You control tiny M&L on the bottom screen with two buttons, and life-size Bowser on the top screen with the other two.  Simultaneously.  Someone's been playing TWEWY too much.

Beat Fighter (DS)

Uh, these funny-looking things called Zubos fight these other things called Zombos... uh, there's probably some more plot but I don't know it.  Combat is turn-based, but with a rhythm element - kind of Elite Beat Agents.  Actually it looks similar to VP's combat system with counterattacks and such.

Avalon Code (DS)

You have to "record" everything in the world in your magic book.  Everything is made up of different amounts of elements.  Like a timid writer in town is made of four parts illness, four parts cat.  And then you can change those elements around.  Like Goblins are tough because they are 3 parts stone, but you can remove that stone to lower their HP, then replace it with the illness from the writer to lower it some more (this affects ALL goblins in the world).  Action combat system, with juggling and such.  Graphics are nice too.

Phantasy Star 0 (DS)

Basically PS Universe, except with some improvements.  Can play over wi-fi with other people.  There's also an extensive offline mode, unlike previous games.  The single player has an actual plot and such, and you can recruit AI party members to help you.  Graphics are incredible (for the DS).  Actually I have concerns about the hardware, because I don't think they can actually pull off everything they describe here on the DS.  If they can, it's going to be amazing.

Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS)

SRPG instead of the usual maneuvering, although it still defaults to VP1's combat system after you move.  Great, awesome, makes up for VP2, etc. etc.  Also of note is the extensive translation job they did.  They actually took the effort to make each character's dialogue match the medieval period appropriate to them.  Supposedly it's a really immersive experience.

Sands of Destruction (DS)

Basically if you were waiting for a new Chrono Trigger, this is it.  Returns several key developers/artists/musicians from Chrono Trigger/Xenogears/Chrono Cross/Xenosaga.  Combat appears to be like Xenogears.  Oh, and your goal is to destroy the world rather than save it.  Supposedly the random encounter rate is being toned down from the Japanese version.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (DS)

One of two Dragon Quests never to make it to America, this also happens to be series creator Yuji Horii's favorite.  Copying the formula from the most successful RPG ever, Phantasy Star 3, you get to choose your bride and have three generations of familyness to fight the bad guy with.  New to the DS version is a third choice of bride.  Nera's sister Debora is a self-absorbed, controlling woman who is terrible marriage material.  But hey, she doubleacts!

Fire Emblem:  Shadow Dragon (DS)

Remake of FE1.  Nothing you haven't seen in other FEs, other than the ability to fight other players over wi-fi.

Arc Rise Fantasia (Wii)

Same people who did the Luminous Arc games, although they are not connected (despite the name).  This is very much like a Tales game, although combat is turn-based.  Pretty, but seems kind of generic.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (DS and Wii)

Same as Phantasy Star 0, except crappier.  The DS and Wii versions are the exact same game, other than the Wii having (slightly) better graphics.  You can play over wi-fi with anyone with either version of the game.  Offline mode sucks due to crappy computer AI.

Did I mention all of these come out in either February or March?  DS just became the next-gen console of choice for RPGs.

EDIT:  Also forgot My World My Way and Pokemon Platinum.  So yeah, that's TWELVE RPGs in two months for the DS.

Sounds like it's World Destruction with a different name, so it should.

Captain K:

Does Sands of Destruction = World Destruction, perhaps?

Is there an antromorphic Teddy Bear as a playable character? If so, we have a match!

Avalon Code sounds interesting. Innovative, though perhaps cumbersome or too easily breakable?

I thought FE: Shadow Dragon was out already?

Suikoden, VP, and PSZero look like I'll end up getting them, especially after all the TranceHime(?) hype of PSZero.

Shadow Dragon saw release in Europe back in the beginning of December.

Anyway, MITSUDA!  That's five games on this list to buy then.
Poor wallet.

Mitsuda only did a portion of it, so don't expect too much. And the plot is brain dead, consider this is CC wroiter doing stuff. Seriously, Measter Cat's secret plot just get left off, and what becomes of Measter Elephant is just stupid, and they didn't even bother to explain the Creator's motive, especially when her dying words completly contradicts with her actions.

Also, Suiko DS has nothing to do with the main plot line, it is a completly seperate game.

As for Avalon Code, fear the path splits, there are so many of them. Game is... just to say it has a twist both plotly and gameplayly that you'll ether find it cute or just >.>

VPDS... I'll only say this..... Seraphic Gate OWNS your soul.

And Arc Rise..... good artists meets averagish game designer, le sigh.

Yes, Sands of Destruction was called World Destruction in Japan.  Mitsuda's Procyon studio did 50 tracks for the game; Mitsuda himself contributed 20 of them.  And the Czech Philharmonic did the main theme.

Phantasy Star Zero follows PSO EpI&II (and takes some PSOBB elements) more faithfully.

If you want a portable PSU, get Phantasy Star Portable, for the PSP, instead. This will be localized before PSZ for sure.

My World, My Way is very, very gimmicky. It's also fairly mediocre, unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. >_>

Devil Summoner 2 comes with a Raiho plushie as a first print extra.

More Atlus leaks, with release dates even. April 21 for Endless Frontier (the SRW spinoff with NxC mains and hookerbot) and June 23 for Devil Survivor are the ones that look most notable to me.

I might become enraged about my now-premature purchase of it except in all likelihood they won't bring it out over here anyway as per usual. Still raises the problem of whether I should import a US version though...
