Changing names

How do you legally change your name, and can you legally do it if you are on the run. Say if you have a stae id as well but never had a license im assuming if you got your license that state id photo would show as one of the options for the picture u want right?

What do you mean by 'on the run'?

If you mean that you have a warrant out for your arrest or whatever you can't legally change your name to avoid it.

I would imagine legally changing your name would be kind of a tip off to the authorities too, given the paperwork involved.

Unfortunately for you, if it's anything like NM elsewhere, you have to go to court and prove to a judge that you're not changing your name in order to commit fraud or otherwise escape legal recourse.  Even if it's not like that elsewhere I'm sure you have to go to some government agency and they're sure to do a background check.

There is no legal way for you to change your name if you have a warrant out for your arrest. Your only options are to either serve your jail time and then change your name or buy fake identification.

If you want to waste your time and try it anyway then go to the nearest courthouse and talk to them about it.

Yeah, a judge has to approve the name change.  They can turn it down, but Ocho Cincos do get through the system.

What about a state id? I have a friend letting me use his social and birth certificate so I can work. He has a stae id but no license, so he has a picture of himself in dmv records in that state. If I were to go get my license or a stae id in another state that picture wouldnt show up right. I could get an id if I was in another state as long as I had the identification that the dmv needed right

I think you're running a massive risk, and are likely to be locked up if you try this.

It is a massive risk, but there has to be ways to pull living on the run off. I'm ready about to have a kid and im looking at awhile

That might work, but it's likely they would doublecheck with the state your friend is at and sooner or later someone's going to find out what's going on and you, and most likely your friend, would end up in jail.

Aiding and abetting. Probably fraud, too. The both of you are looking at some jail time now.

From what I've seen your options are:

1) Run.  If you get caught you'll get nailed for all of the original charges, along with whatever they can pile on to that from your attempted flight.

2) Run, and use your friend's info to try to change your identity.  If you get caught, the above will apply, along with the additional fraud charges.  And you'll land your friend in hot water as well.

3) Turn yourself in.  You'll get nailed with the current charges, but won't get anything associated with the above tacked on(probably, I don't know the details of the situation).  *Might* score points with the judge, depending on how often you've had run-ins with the law in the past.  Good behavior/parole might cut down on the time you actually serve.

In all honesty, gritting your teeth and taking it on the chin is likely your best bet.

I've already done 3 years of my life in jail and I'm on the run for aggravated trafficking a pound of cocaine. I'm looking at a minimum of 4 and now that im on the run it could be worse. They gave me a chance and let me go to rehab. I didn't fail cause of drugs, they kicked me out because I was working illegally under the table and I freaked out and ran. I met the love of my life and now I'm having a kid. I've become a completely different person, a person that society would appreciate. If I turn myself in my girl will leave me and I don't want to lose my kid or have him calling someone else daddy. I just wanted help....I'm in a bad spot.....I want to at least see my kid born before I turn myself in. There has to be ways of getting identification

Try talking it over with her, being on the run is no way to raise a kid.  If you say you're doing this to set an example, and so that you can get out in time to be present for the rest of the kid's childhood, she might come around.  To be blunt, staying on the run is only going to compound your problems, and if she's fully aware of the issue she might very well get into trouble too.

The forum's probably not the best place to go for this sort of thing anyways.  Have you tried finding an affordable lawyer yet?  There may be other options to consider.
