I think the reason that Friday to Wednesday was chosen was to maximize the amount of weekend time. Since if someone takes a week off, that means we're spending the weekend days travelling.

Friday to Wednesday means that people who are only coming for the (first?) weekend aren't missing too much of the con?

At least, that's how I'm seeing it.

Honestly, the day timeframe doesn't effect me much. It's just the 'which week/which month' that matters.

Super - the closest airport to where I live that services internationals is Pittsburgh (...I...think - can't remember if Harrisburg does international flights or not).  It's also...not an interesting area, and while large enough, I'd have to kick my parents out.  It's also 4 hours from Pittsburgh, and is less set-up technology-wise.

So the consensus right now seems to be leaning towards the first week of August (31st-4th?  or do you mean the first full week?  the exact dates are importantish).  Not a full week of Con, unless people really want to stay that long.  Think 5 days of Con (1 arrival, 1 leave, 3 activity days) will work well enough.  The WV area seems fairly out (I'm a bit happy with that >_>).  I will note that there WILL be overflow in my townhouse, as it's shared by my roommate and his boyfriend (and, barring something happening, will stay that way), which is what complicates matters a bit.  Which is why I was aiming for an exterior place.  I'm currently conversing with a rental house about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh that should be able to fit everyone in it.  Internationals would get first priority for staying in the townhouse.  As I did say, though, there is an exceptionally close hotel (Not as close as it was to Hal's last year, but still within a mile) that is relatively cheap and probably could be coaxed into providing a full area to use for the Con.  I'm going to call them soon to make sure that works.  Alternatively, there's ANOTHER hotel close that's used yearly for a gaming convention for 2 days, so I can contact them as well.  It's about 5 minutes drive from where I live.  If people are up for hotel, that would be the easiest housing issue - I'll keep looking at the other rental houses, though, as that's the best overall choice if it works.

So, opinions, additional thoughts?

Uh, if it's going to be the week after (7-11) that's cutting it a bit close to the start of the Uni term for me, so I probably won't make it in that case, if it makes a difference at all.

This isn't certain, of course, I have to check the calendar, but best guess is I won't make it then.

EDIT:  Given that it's possible I might not be able to come anyway, don't take this into consideration too much, but just sayin'.

As far as the housing is concerned, I'd personally prefer if we could all end up at the same place if possible, assuming you can find a place for that many people.  Seems like every time, some people miss out on stuff because the activities are taking place away from where they're staying.  I missed the House on the Hill and most of the movie stuff the first time due to having to stay at a hotel (and Meep because he was at his house), there were people missing stuff at the second(though that seemed to be less staying in the wrong place as being somewhere else at the time, that was also the one time pretty much everyone was staying within quick walking distance of each other), and the third one anyone staying at Gate's missed out on stuff like the late night gaming sessions.

Hotel would work, but you would want to make sure that TVs they have would accept video game connections, and we would basically want to reserve a block of rooms right next to each other if possible.  Board gaming also seems to be a pretty large draw, though, and that would be a little rough in most hotel rooms I've been in.  Also has the downside of basically forcing us into small groups most of the time.  Unless one of them has a conference room or something similar we could use?  Might be worth looking at.

A rental house would be preferable due to space and furnishing concerns, of course, as well as allowing us lazy people who aren't good at cooking to mooch off the group of you that are instead of having to eat out every time(seriously, the home cooking has been excellent at all of these, even if it was mostly family doing it at the first two and not us).

So, it's been nearly a month with no update.  I know you're busy, but have you had a chance to look further into housing or any of this stuff?  I don't want to be pushy, but the earlier we set that sort of thing up the easier(and possibly cheaper) it'll be.

ATTENTION!  THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM LORD NERGAL!

Ok, so there have been some changes.  I apologize it's been a month since the last update, but it's taken a while to confirm a few things.

First up, sadly, we can't do Pittsburgh this year.  3 reasons:

1) I learned literally on Tuesday (yesterday!  I love how the medical world waits until the last minute to tell you things) that I wouldn't be that likely to stay in Pittsburgh for my residency next year.  Since we're pushing this to August most likely, that really makes it hard for me to plan it.

2) My roommate and his boyfriend are huge dicks, and despite the fact I'll have a large townhouse, they're completely against having anyone they don't know come anywhere near it, especially in a large group, around.  This is unfortunate for the internationals, especially.  And yet another reason to move out on my own as soon as the bloody lease ends.

3) Due to the above, I've had to go for houses.  Unfortunately, the houses I've looked at (about 4 different ones)...are against any group above 12, won't fit enough people, or are not amiable to the group.  Unfortunately, since we're expecting at least 20, this won't work.

All of this has hit this week, which has been a real kick in the balls for planning.  However, we have a contingency plan.  I apologize this is a bit later than anticipated, but...

MeepleCon 4

We're going to be holding this in New Jersey, c/o Meeple and his wonderful family.  We can hold the event in the house (which apparently is huge enough for 30 people or so, from what I hear).  However, we're going to have to use a hotel for the majority of people for sleeping and the like.  There is a hotel a mile away from the Meeplouse, with the following prices:

La Quinta Inn & Suites Wayne
1850 Highway/Route 23 North
Wayne, NJ  07470

Standard w/1 Bed  $95.00 USD
Accessible Deluxe w/1 Bed $95.00 USD
Standard w/2 Beds    $95.00 USD
King Room w/Microwave-Fri...    $100.00 USD

4 people per room makes this about 25$/night.  That's $100 for 4 nights total.  Works out about the same as DL Con 2.

We need to book these rooms and get a head count to Mr and Mrs Lard as soon as possible.  So there are 3 things we need:

1) RECONFIRM IF YOU ARE COMING OR NOT IN THIS TOPIC.  I have a list in the first post of this topic.  I don't think this should really change much for people, but let me know.  Especially internationals - PM me.  We'll work this out.  I've talked to you already, so actually, PM me anyway about the week-long time periods too >_>

2) SCHEDULING.  Is the first week in July 31st-August 4th time period still good for everyone?  What do we want to do for exact dates?  A Thursday-Sunday thing?  Even if you've commented already, do say so again.

3) ...actually, there were only 2.  But yes, anything else you can think of goes here!

So yes, I apologize again for the changes and the problems that came up.  Let me, Super, Shale, or Meeple know if you have any questions.

Big things of note: It'll be much cheaper to fly into NYC or Newark than it will be to fly into Pittsburgh, which is good. Especially for the internationals. Wayne's a bus ride away from NYC itself. We do need to set a date in stone, so add in comments as need be, etc, along with ideas about what to do.

I'm coming (Driving), hopefully going to get Pyro to go.

Reconfirm as a most likely. Cheaper to fly into NYC/Newark? Okay. That's nice.

Reconfirming as most likely.  Looks like I'll be working for most of next year, which at least means I'll have the money for it, I think.

Also, giant props to all the hosts as always.

Yeah, I still plan on coming.  Hell, this probably makes things easier on me, really.  New York is another Virgin hub and I loved the flight last time.

Oh yeah, I should say something too:

Now, like last year, I need to wait until March 19th to confirm for sure, but I'm pretty certain I'll be able to make it.  Yes.
