More like a "potentially screw with Rat" rule.

That said, retroactiveness is a line of chaos I won't cross.

What's the point of this other than creating obtuse, unfun possibilities or just forcing us to play the game forever?

This, effectively. I could get what you were trying to accomplish with 107, but this? Huh?

AMEND Rule 306 to read
A rule-change is adopted if there is a positive majority among the eligible voters. A rule-change is not adopted if there is a majority negative vote. However, if there is a tie vote for whatever reason, the player proposing the vote and a negative voter, who shall be the first negative voter who follows the proposer in turn sequence, must compete head-to-head in a competition that is decided by consensus of the mob.

Mob consensus is defined as the first idea for competition that three members of the mob can agree on.

If the rule-change proposer wins, then the rule is adopted. If his opponent wins, then the rule counts as a failure and all negative voters gain five points.

... how often is that rule going to come out in practice and how will we create any sort of cohesive competition in the case that happens? It's certainly not going to help the flow of the game, and it's certainly not going to do much to increase entertainment, considering this isn't a live game.

My point is mainly that this rule will most likely come up once in a full moon, and it'll be cumbersome when it does instead of interesting or fun. Not really feeling the love for it. C'mon, VSM, try to play the game for a change.

Actually, I kinda like that one.  Votes have been pretty close lately, in fact I think there already was a tie?  I could see it creating entertainment.

With what kind of competitions, though? What kind of games could be created within the forum medium that wouldn't derail the game even further? The concept may even not be total chunks, but I honestly can't think of a way it wouldn't be executed awkwardly.

Nothing says the competition has to be within the forum medium.  I took it to mean we could make them play Chess, or Street Fighter, or *insert sadistic game of choice*.

Then, how do you fairly get the results of the competition to be portrayed? You set up a whole huge event that, by itself, is more logistics than anyone in a Nomic game would bear to handle? It doesn't pan out in practice. It can and easily will devolve into spectacles of "no u" or challenges that won't actually get done.

Hmm, my main problem with that one is that it means that it over emphasises non-player power in any case where the vote is close.  As it does state that extra voting power is meaningless if the total number of people voting is against.  In fact, it presents a case where superior voting weight counts for nothing at all.

At least, if the superior voting weight is in favour of something.  If it's against, then it's all hunky dorey.  And those are both inequalities I'm not really in favour of.

I'd vote no for this as is. If the rule-proposer's victory (and subsequent rule adoption) gave all positive voters 5 points I'd vote yes.

I like it in theory.

But in practice it's probably going to be hard to implement.

In practice I believe all the voters hang around enough that "You and you, Yahoo chess, now" or even rock paper scissors would be very simple and quick.  Admittedly the door is open for ridiculous things to be chosen, but I don't think they would be.

I'll vote Yea on this as is, and would still vote Yea on it if it was changed to include the above sentiment.

As it stands, I don't care about the achievement of points much. I care for making it more... amusing to read.
