VSM will need to vote yes to get 10 points on this proposal because if even one actual player votes no it's not going through.

And we seem to have found the flaw in the current system, haven't we?

And that's why, instead of trying to fix it, you propose something asinine? gj

And more to the point, I'm pretty sure I and most other people wouldn't post anymore, and this game would be as boring as sluggish as it was before Excal's proposal.

It was to make a point on something that I only noticed today with the vote result.

By passing the last proposal we turned the non-players from a simple agent of chaos to a collective of common self-interest on the level of player. I noticed, as Kilga pointed out, that if the non-players vote as one as they have shown they can, the only thing that can overtake that is an unanimous decision on behalf of the players AT THE MOMENT. It would take 18 contrary votes at the moment to overturn a unanimous decision. It would take 12 to overturn a 5-1 split, which is not that hard for you guys. The game is almost in your hands now, not ours.

It's not like I didn't expect the backlash. Far from it. It's still amusing to me though once you turn the tables. Passing proposals that make things rough on the players? Sign me up! Makes the game fun! Proposals that add annoyances to the non-players? Slows the game down! Game will die!

If you want to play, you should have signed up. If you want to mess with the rules, fine, but realize that it can be turned around back at you.

It's even funny still since it's not like it's a difficult thing. You guys must really hate Rat.

Honestly, I would have gladly supported Snow's original proposition with no "mob can win" clause.  Who needs self-interest when there's comedy afoot?

(Which, incidentally, is a very good reason for players to pass this, just don't be surprised that the people who have to follow the rule don't think it's very funny.)

Indeed. Like I said, didn't expect support from the non-players on this.

It does only say voting rights. You can still post and create proposals, not that it makes it much better.

So hey guys, I suggest an amendment to this proposal.

How about making it board-wide? If any non-player posts anywhere without singing Rat's praise, they forfeit their right to vote.

And then the entire RPGDL forums stagnate due to Nomic.

BRILLIANT!

Only if you really want to vote on Nomic!

C'mon, it'd be fun to see people hail Rat in every topic.

Oh, it would be.  But if you so as much mess up once, you lose voting powers forever.  Isn't that kind of ridiculous?

I don't post often anyways, so I have no problem not posting at all.  Chat ftw.

The idea is retarded to begin with. Let's not have it affect unNomic things.

Since non-players don't have to follow the rules, such an addition (board-wide, I mean) would be kinda pointless.

This should raise the point that rules only really matter as long as people care to follow them. People playing the game have a vested interest in doing so because hey, a game is stupid if you toss rules out the window and just do whatever. Those outside it? Not so much.

By the way, I won't be exempt from this rule, and I'll have to do it every time I post a phase update or the scoreboard.

In this case, why not just make the proposal of letting the mob make proposals without the possibility of them getting points in this case?

EDIT: I mean, it's not like VSM isn't going to win the game as is anyway. >_>

Seriously, give us power to screw with the game without giving us the potential to win it, I'm fine with that, I'll still participate and the game will actually have more than three posts a day with nothing going on, and then you don't have to worry about us winning even though we didn't sign up.  Make stupid proposals with no point but to suck the fun out of the game, though, and you might have to worry about losing interest from more than just the non-player contingent.  Hell, put in a rule that you guys can override us if you get 5 votes no matter how many votes we have opposing you.  Then you actually have some strategy in your game and maintain control if you can get the players to agree on something.  That would solve the problem nicely, I'd think, without being utterly inane.

Man, if I knew you were all fine with not being able to score points, I'd have left things simpler in my proposal. But then, I'm not sure if that's what truly bothers Soppy.

I'm honestly not sure -what- is bothering Soppy.  I mean, it's not like his rule actually does anything except basically keep non-players from posting.  It doesn't take away our votes, it doesn't take any of the power we've been given out of our hands.  Hell, if we just leave something lying around to copy/paste, it doesn't really affect us at all.  So this rule is essentially totally inane and useless.  I mean, it's not like I'm a stranger to singing the Rat's praises, remember my "restriction" in that Mafia game? :P

Agreeing with everyone else, basically.  If you don't like the mob controlling the game and having an interest in it, amend the last proposal to say that the mod can't win and their score is only tracked for fun, or something.  I'd vote for that, like most everyone else who's been posting.  Don't do it in a roundabout way that will lower interest in the game though.
