Ah, the Disc. Carried on the back of four huge elephants who in turn walk in circles atop the shell of the gargantuan turtle A'Tuin, and orbited by a small, cold sun, the Disc is certainly...unconventional, as worlds go, though of course its inhabitants would say that this arrangement makes perfect sense, and that anyone who seriously entertains a theory as patently ludicrous as a spherical world or a sun-centered universe would be better off in the local madhouse or tied up in a sack at the bottom of a river, wherever they'd cause less trouble. Such unusual cosmology probably couldn't exist in a reality that obeyed the laws of physics we're used to, but the inhabitants of the Disc get around this inconvenience by simply not acknowledging the laws of physics as we know them. As strange as it might sound, in a place as saturated with magic as the Disc, belief can and does shape reality.
Of course, as a side-effect of this, the fabric of reality tends to be...thinner, on the Disc. On occasion, things from other planes of existence have been known to slip through. Things without anything resembling human feelings (or dwarf or troll feelings, for that matter) and with unholy appetites for all which lives. Wizards call the origin of these creatures the Dungeon Dimensions. Beings from the Dungeon Dimensions do not know true life as flesh-and-blood humans do. Shades left outside the realm of corporeality, without names or true form, they resemble a mishmash of the leftover pieces from H.R. Giger's worst nightmares more than they do anything one could call a species. They swarm about portals to more material planes such as the the Disc as do flies around a carcass, yearning for the spark of true existence. When they break through from one reality to another, they often lack the focus to do anything more than embark on a frenzy of consumption before being destroyed, though there have been occasions in which a living being's mind was devoured and taken over by one of these otherworldly horrors...
It was at the tail-end of the Century of the Fruitbat that the city of Ankh-Morpork was stricken by an unprecented incursion by these wretched creatures. The reason is uncertain--interdimensional tomfoolery on the part of the city's wizards, perhaps, or some arcane ritual gone awry in one of its dozens of temples and shrines. There are almost as many opinions as there are people to blame. No one's sure just how it started, but the rising tide of mysterious nocturnal slaughters and killings of prominent citizens from all walks of life makes it painfully clear that something is rotten in the state (er, city) of Ankh-Morpork. And as the body count rises amidst a blistering summer heat wave, the citizens need little prodding to resort to old-fashioned mob rule to sort things out. If these creatures have corrupted the minds of citizens and now masquerade as normal mortals, then there's nothing for it but to drag the prime suspects out into the street and introduce them to the hempen necktie of justice. Sure, a few innocents may be lost in the process, but you can't expect an angry mob to get everything right, can you?
Besides, it makes for excellent street theater, and the citizens of Ankh-Morpork like nothing more than a good show.

Rules! Most of these should be familiar by now:
- No editing your posts.
- No talking outside the thread unless your role specifically states that you may.
- No posting during game nights.
- No spectator posts with content.
- Do not directly quote your role PM or conversations with the mod. Paraphrase is okay. Check with me before posting if you're unsure.
- There may or may not be third parties with separate win conditions from the town/mafia.
- There are no players or parties that would cause the game to end Day 1 or Night 1.
- Don't try to cheat or break the game in any way. Use common sense.
- PLAY TO WIN. Failure to at least put in an effort ruins the game for everyone else. Playing poorly is fine, and to an extent expected, but sabotaging your side deliberately or through massive apathy will get you modkilled.
- Please try to at least post a paragraph or two of useful content every 24 hours or so.
- You do not need to post "in character" or do anything special regarding flavor. If you want to, it's fine, but it may complicate the game or accidentally give away your role, which is generally bad.
- Individual players may have "hidden" abilities that were not included in their role PM, but can be revealed by certain events happening in the game. Additionally, there may or may not be 'scripted sequences' of events that may change the rules of the game or do other things if certain events happen.

Final notes:
Days will be 48 hours long. If a majority vote has not been reached by the end of that time period, No Lynch will occur. Cid's note: the No Lynch rule takes effect on day three, as I did not wish to change the rules while a day was still in progress.
You may vote for No Lynch if you wish.
If there are any questions, you can send PMs to Alex as well as myself, since he's co-modding. Probably not a bad idea to ask both of us, since I'm at work forty hours a week (8:30AM-5:00PM EST) and will not be able to actively watch over the game while there.
Happy hunting, all.
