While I don't see how this is a twink idea.  Restricting yourself with power gaming is doing it wrong.  Unlimited power is the goal and you must wield all you can to achieve it.

I think he means for Twink League.

Typically, FF8 Twinks have always been a little...overboard.  Their restrictions weren't enough, cause they are still using TOO MUCH of the system and what not.  I think he's trying to find a Twink League build that allows using a majority of the system, but restricts it down to typical twink league standards.

Though, I'm pretty sure FF8 was hardly the worst offender of the Restricted Twinking.  One thing that stands out to me was FF5 in how Bartz was handled in such a way that his ONLY real restriction was "locked white Magic." Ok, so he still has a lot of FF5's awesome equips *eyes Hermes Shoes*, and all of FF5's support skills?  Contrast to Ramza who was a similar idea, except forced to have DL Legal equips only, and by nature, had less support/reaction commands.

Yes, the original idea came from the twink league. Anyways, started off and got Diablos.

SeeD exam was quite hard. Elvoret in particular managed to knock me to around 30% of my Max HP. Thankfully though, I learned HP Junction before leaving Balamb Garden and junctioned 20 Tornadoes. So I had enough HP to outlast. After that...well card playing allowed me to upgrade Squall's Weapon to the Cutting Trigger, giving me a few more points of strength where I didn't need a super junction. Just 100 Waters to Strength. And while I was doing that, also learnt Strength +20%. And yeah, fight was still close.

Then...Black widow. Get 5 Coral Fragments, refine them to 100 Thundaras. Junction to Elem-Atk. Basically, start at around 40% MHP or so (or even higher if you want), start attacking. Renzokuken when you get the chance. One Renzo chain brings it down. Wait for it to repair. Repeat around 6 times. Easy +1 to SeeD grade and a 40 AP bonus. Get Siren to learn Life Mag RF immediately.

Granaldo...lol. Upgraded Squall's weapon again to Punishment. A few hits and down it goes!

Then its Diablos time. Anyways, start at around 30%ish for HP. With 100 Deaths junctioned to HP, this gives you around 2400 HP and 800 starting. Diablos will inevitably hit you once or twice. Once that happens, he will drop you straight into limit range. One or two Renzos and he's dead. Further win if you have Strength +40%. I didn't though. Diablos starts learning Time Mag Refine for early 100 Triples.

This twink challenge so far has obviously not been too bad. Hardest part is the very opening of the game during the SeeD mission. Once that's done, you have more options and abilities. And yeah, that leads to the broken which leads to game being snapped in half.

SH2: Finally picked this up! The variables of actually seeing a used copy and having money to spare have finally intersected.

Up through the wine cellar so far; enjoying it quite a bit. Actually pretty funny a lot of the time, and I already like the whole cast to some degree or another. Dropped Blanca for Joachim the moment he showed up. Fortunately this is a game where inactive party members still gain experience, (shocked! amazed!) so I can go back to the doggy when I feel like it.

You didn't drop Gep? How odd~

Joachim is pretty meh unless he's transformed. Second time through I usually just ended up keeping him in reserve trying to manip so he'd always have one of his best forms for bosses.

Eh. Gep has lots more room for Crest Magic changes and loads of MP, whereas Blanca is just... fast. Plus, Marionette magic is still pretty powerful when hitting a weakness at this point. I imagine that Blanca will be more useful when he has more Manifestations, and I may end up doing what you suggested with Joachim since he's pretty much just a slower Yuri right now.

Speaking of which, I went for having 2nd tier demons before finishing elemental coverage for the sake of having Orexis really early. Karin has fire, and I got Sassy Sailor as my first dress for Cornelia - any suggestions for a second standard dress, or should I just grab whatever element I need most?

*nods*

Yeah Gep's definitely more specialised. Thing is though he *is* good at what he does so if he works for you hey that's pretty nifty. I couldn't get past the speed and fraility myself but yeah.

He is useful at that stage though. It's a toss up between Karin and Blanca, I've always found the wolf to be the best hybrid type in the game out of the two but that's just me (and Karin has fire as you said)

Get the element that you think you need, wind was pretty useful early irrc though.

I tend to like having a traditional mage around in games where they have the damage to compensate, so I'll probably have Gep for a while. Using Karin over Blanca, on the other hand, was merely me deciding between 'cool wolf that summons spirits' or 'hot chick with a fire sword'.

I'll probably go with wind then; already have the element on Gep with... whatever Crest that is, but the boost will be nice for bosses. Actually, been using Hail Beak a lot because it's my only piercing attack right now, which is good for randoms.

For what it is worth, I found Hail Beak hard to replace for a long part of the game.  It is cheap and has a fairly effective/unique hit pattern that I found filled in holes in spell selections really quite well.  It won't end up being your big damage move, but it makes for really good clean up spell or just chipping enemies down spell.

Karin's ability to hit fifty million times thus letting your other PCs do hax damage in boss fights seems to clearly trump whatever the point of Blanca was supposed to be. Statistically they are like Natan and Ricardo except that Ricardo's skills got shunted away to a different PC, and I definitely prefer the former stat build. You can probably do some decent things with the speed, though - namely Gathering, once you finally get that.

Gep has been covered. Great offence, awful speed (and durability). He was one of the first folks I benched but I can totally see using him.

Joachim also has solid damage; kept him for quite a while myself.

Blanca only gets 4 manifestations.  Wind damage ST, Full MT healing, full ST revival, and full MT status restoration.  Blanca actually has the best INT stat in the game, but his equipment doesn't have as large INT boosts as Gepetto, so he's only 2nd in that regard.  Really needs crest magic to get mileage out of his stats.

Wait, 3rd highest SATK.  Forgot Anastasia gets good equipment boosting - puts her right below Gep (like 4 points below).  Not that the curve is really large in terms of separation or anything.

I used Karin/Ana/Yuri/Joachim (mmm...sexiness) for my first time.  Any party is good and workable.

Easy game is easy + character balance isn't horrid, so yeah, every party should be able to get through with no real problems. Just, we at the RPGDL like to overanalyse these things!...

(Speaking of which, Lucia beats Blanca in S-Atk too, and Karin is close behind. The girls get better S-Atk boosting equipment.)

Ah well.

Persona 4: Determined to do the Sauna in one day. Why? Too lazy to come here again, if Kanji needs more help after the number of shadows I've reamed he's not worth saving~

Relatively more serious news, Invigorate's not bad with how the SP system works in this.

Invigorate is pretty useful. Sadly, I never really got it on really decent Personas early, but it's a nice way to make the main's SP last longer, especially now that you actually need it to. Also, have fun doing the Sauna in one day. Longest dungeon in the game+you're not quite strong enough yet = you'll probably give all your money to the fox twice over if you screw up/get screwed up. It's quite possible, it'll just make you want to strangle a few kittens in the process eventually.

The fact it was so expensive was what kept me from doing it in a fell swoop. Rather save the money for equipment, which might be a bit superfluous, but helps in the long run.

You fail, Super; Strago is cooler than any RPG character.

(except Hippopressor of course)

MMX8 - Beat this with no upgrades/items/secrets, no chips bought, no weapon use, and no double attack, i.e. as minimalist a playthrough as you can get without, say, banning switching. Very fun. Final battle was predictably a bitch, probably about on par with MMX4's, certainly harder than 1's or 3's. Everything before then was quite manageable since this was my third playthrough of the game.

MMX8 mini-rant!

The good: Stage design is the best in the series. MMX, sadly, generally does not have good stage design, with X4 being the only previous entry in the series I had played which didn't, frankly, suck at it. Weapons are above par for MMX, and a fair deal of fun to use, though not as fun as certain entries to the classic series. Scene skip is excellent and essential for dealing with MEGA MAN PLOT, especially as you die to certain bosses over and over. Three PCs is awesome. All play differently, all have their own niche, character balance is decent. I am a sucker for multiple PC options in a platformer. The switching aspect was also implemented well; I liked how you made more than just one PC choice. Made for some interesting strategies for getting through levels or boss fights. A little underutiliised perhaps but still very nice to have. Music is solid. Ranking/grading system is a neat idea. And boss fights... gee, what can you say about MMX boss fights? They are always awesome and the reason to play the game. It's nice to have a little more backing them up this time.

The bad: Not very much. Well, the game is SHORT... which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Still, with the stage design improving, it's kinda disappointing that there were only three Sigma stages, and the first two are probably the most simplistic stages in the game (Gateway is just a boss rush. Jakob is stylish though). It's a bit like MM1 in that the emphasis is really really really on replaying the game, which is okay. Perhaps the most serious complaint is that secrets break this game harder than they usually do in MMX, although as always, skill in boss fights trumps upgrades. I doubt I'll ever enjoy MMX's system of secrets compared to, say, MM8's. Finally: Gigavolt Man-o-War's stage. There is no excusing that.

Best MMX game? I think so. MMX4 previously held this title for me, but X8's improvements in the areas of multiple PC use, polish, weapons, stage design, and music can not be ignored. It's a pretty long list, all X4 can really counter with is perhaps sliiightly better boss fights which is what MMX is all about. Also no Dynasty stage. That's enough to keep it close, but yeah, X8 wins!

High 9/10 or so? Something like that.

OG2 - At the FRUE FINAL BATTLE. First form of the final boss was already epically brutal, so I am looking forward to this.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.
