Grefter, when did I ever say you had to play Thracia 776 to know the context of the title.  I said that if you had played FE4, then you would understand the context of the subtitle of FE5.  ie. It's a sub title meant to have meaning to people who play the series, and to immeadiatly convey the knowledge to those who knew of said context that it wasn't a chronological sequel, but instead events that happened during the blank period in FE4's story that were skipped over.

So, for the target audience, it works fine as a descriptive subtitle, even if it's not one that's to your tastes as an evocative title.

I don't think you're supposed to have terms that are totally opaque to the non-initiated as your freaking title. But maybe that's just me. I guess I'll go write "Caesar's Legion: Furillo 3031" because that's apparently totally excusable.

Edit - Or if it is opaque to the outsider, make it interesting, which integer strings are the complete opposite of.

What Grefter and Rob said. Marketing a game only towards people who have played its predecessor is bad form as well as being bad business, and that's what that title does (it's a pretty bad title anyway, see Grefter's examples). Though hinode explains how they could get away with it. Kinda.

As you should be.  Ys is truely a title of epic magnitudes.

I'd like to argue that one. If anything, my first impression to the name Y's is "hey, what does it stand for? I might just look that up."

358/2 Days is similarly descriptive for a title for the KH game.

It's a game about the year of existence Roxas had while Sora was dreaming.

Well, not the full year, 7 days of it was covered at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2. So it makes the number 358 significant. The /2 part pretty obviously refers to how Roxas is only half of Sora's being.

It is actually more than that, but to get the other side of the meaning requires playing th egame first... which beats the argument.

Ah... well, she definitely is supposed to look like Kairi. Though no, not a literal clone of Kairi.

Nope, that is out right incorrect.

KH 358/2- So, Saix is the real traitor? He and Axel were comrades? Harrrr....

So... MANSEX and Saix were comrades?  Man Nomura just writes this stuff so you can't even make fun of it.

Edit - Oh yeah and I guess I will give Ys the "Complete nonsense but not a random pile of numbers" bonus points on being evocative.

How did you read Axel into Mansex?
Saix and Axel were comrades, the two worked on overthrowing Mansex.
Axel did all those killing in the Castle Oblivion (specifically Vexen and Zexion) just to get rid off road blocks for Saix.
But Axel got yaoi obessed with Roxas and kicked Saix aside.

KHDS plot lives up to Nomura's quality standards. I'll leave that up to your own personal interpretation.

I said it with brevity, though. Always important.

So, more RE5. Wow this game is really easy with a partner.

Beat Lupa. So it was my third try. What I did differently: went in the battle with Void Fire for once, all the Bufala/dynes. All teammates has Void Fire. Dyned/bufala'd with Serph and Gale. Used Argilla to weaken defense/attack. Discovered that each head had a particular attack and since the central head had a move that gives extra moves thus voiding any fire defense I had, I killed him off second. The last enemy had Rend and for some godly-sake, I had null physical. Very easy fight once I knew what to enter with. It's a pity I stopped playing for five days because of it! I'm almost done I hope!

There's not all that much left of DDS1. By the way, for Varin, you might want to pack Void Wind, since his best damage runs off that element and it's actually threatening to Argilla (he crit-OHKOed mine when I fought him, but that was his sole noteworthy action). Past gimmicks, DDS bosses tend to be grade-A wusses.

Beyond the Beyond - Got to Castle Marion's town or whatever.  Random encounter rate is too high, APS system is impossible to figure out, and graphics have no excuse being THAT bad (comparison?  I'm thinking FFIV had better graphics).

BvS - We really need to get together for some serious Zombja planning.

Started Ys.

Playing on easy. Despite this I managed to die several times in the area north of Barbado. Now that I have some equipment and levels this does not appear likely to happen again unless enemies make a fairly significant jump in power. Currently off to visit Zeptik so I am not particularly far in.

Ever since getting equipment I have started failing horribly at gauging where enemies can be charged, or potentially you can only charge them when unequipped. Either way is sad.

Whoever decided to require the L/R buttons be used to access the save screen hates me and everything I stand for.

You can just hit start and scroll through the menus I thought, if you're playing the DS port. Also you can push A button to slash things you know. Charging works if you use stylus controls.

Valkyria Chronicles: Beaten.

Not much to say here. The game is excellent on presentation, the gameplay is very innovative and tons of fun, and the characters are endearing enough. Pity about the overall plot degrading into typical RPG cliche stuff as you got further into the game.

Let's see here. PC cast was good and had some nice chemistry. Welkin was man enough to run his squad in a relaxed fashion without losing his authority. Alicia was very likable and generally developed well. Isara played pretty well with just about everyone in one way or another but especially with Rosie. Rosie herself worked as the stubborn bitch who opens up. Largo filled his role as tough-guy veteran very well. Captain Varrot was hot (not really).

Plotwise... The mega huge spoiler halfway through the game was sudden, unexpected, and I felt far more affected by it than I would have expected. After that things just took a turn downwards. I don't have much to say here other than that the character stuff was done well enough to make me like the PC cast and follow the plot. The presentation was very nice too, what with the gorgeous artwork and good music.

Gameplay was fun from beginning to end, I think. It's true that the scoring system puts too much emphasis on quick victories, but I don't see too much of a problem with that. MORE KINDS of maps would have been better. Some extra "kill everything" maps would have been superior to the massive number of capture-the-flag maps. But in general the classes, equipment, and strategies were fun enough to keep me engaged constantly. I confess to whoring out a maxed out Alicia as soon as I got all her skills. When you can, in one turn, finish off a map that would otherwise take a long time and a lot of planning... well sometimes it's just too tempting to pass up.

Anyways, good game, and I'll think about grabbing the DLC. Though I now remember this is Cid's copy. Should pick up my own sometime.

KHDS - Spoilery
From what I understand, she is supposed to formed from Sora's memories of Kairi. So yes, technically, she was supposed to be Sora, but ended up more of a Kairi clone in practice. Or some kind of bastardized love-child of the two of them...

My only problem with KH plot (aside from odd implementation of Disney characters in a Nomura setting, but they're hardly an important part of the plot anyway) is that hovers between 'too literal' and 'not literal enough' in the ways it uses concepts like 'hearts' and 'existence'.

And it's really pretentious about it, but it seems somewhat self-aware of that fact a la DMC at times, so it works for me.

...
I should probably talk about what games I'm playing at this point, but I've started reading Terry Pratchett books instead of playing games this week... >.>;;

F-Zero GX - Decided to give Chapter 7 HM the finger. Beat Chapter 8 HM with little difficulty, 9 without too much more. Have started on Very Hard, and have already beaten two of the easier chapters, the Goroh race and the Speed ripoff. Yay new cars! Too bad there's nothing left to really use them on, although GP racing for fun is not something I am above by any means.

MMPU - Game beaten with Fireman. Fireman is probably the best character. The shield his attacks create is much more useful than in MM1 (larger radius...although a bit slower so you have to be a little more wary of ramming enemies sneaking through... still a winning trade overall), and you can fire 3 on screen at once unlike Thunder Beam. Haven't decided who I'm using next.

ALSO:

<Fireman, upon meeting Copy Robot> You! You're a fake! Has it finally happened? A copy of me has appeared... ... That means I am a real HERO!

FEDS: Chapter 16. WAVE OF PROMOTIONS has begun. Also arena abuse, which means lots of reloading the in-battle save when I get too greedy. Gotta stock up on Heals and Mends now that I've got three characters who can use them, though.
