ToS: So, me and one friend both played this while at another friend's. -Finally-, the three of us have seen each other again, and so I've finally seen the ending to this... I'm hoping the sequel actually holds some ground, because... ToS was utterly amazing, but the ending was so... disappointing. Probably doesn't help that we tore Yggdrasil to shreds due to being, like, Lv 130 (NG+, x10 Exp), but it just seemed like... nothing really happened. Can someone clarify if the entire quest around both worlds actually did -anything- to stop the aimless sacrifices of Chosens?

Yes. The Chosen reversed the flow of mana, which there wasn't enough of because you had two planets sharing one planet's supply of mana. By joining the two, there is one world with sufficient mana, and thus the entire position becomes superfluous.

EO2:

Just beat Hellion and entered the third stratum. This wouldn't have happened if not for my Dark Hunter, who has mastered the Climax skill and in effect reduced bosses to 45% of their listed HP. Extremely badass.

My Landsknect (however the hell you spell it) continues to be the damage god of the group, with the Dark Hunter following it up. War Magus is proving extremely useful for speedy healing and reliable damage against slime typed enemies (ignoring resits with the status cuts). Medic is a healing battery with revival, and the Troubadour I replaced my Alchemist with... really feels lacking. The MT offense buff is nice enough, but most of the things that you would use it against tend to obliterate you pretty handedly and since death dispels buffs it is less useful than I would hope. The defensive buffs just don't seem to be enough to shut down the offense of the really nasty FOEs and stratum bosses that I would use them on. And the damage isn't really there. Despite all the support hype, I'm thinking of replacing mine with a Gunner or Ronin for more raw damage.

Anyways. Dark Hunter hype goes here.

Rhapsody: Cornet's quest to get laid A Musical Adventure

This game is fluffy cake. Laughably easy, but it is fun and features a girl dancing in a bear suit. While not as cool as Bonta-kun, that still gets points.

The whole 'Chosen' system was set up by Mithos anyway in his attempt to produce a being who was genetically identical to his sister Martel and then have her hand-delivered (and soul-free) to him by the people of either world. As it turns out, Zelos and Colette are the products of some kind of esoteric eugenics program, which is why they have Cruxis crystals. Colette is obviously quite a bit closer to Martel than Zelos... >.>;;

The ironic part is that Martel ends up choosing that automaton at the end as a vessel despite being unrelated to Mithos' plans.

For whatever its worth...

ToS2 pretty much states that while the Church of Martel is around, its slowly losing support as, you know, they know the system was flawed and Mithos' secrets were revealed, etc.  It pretty much makes it clear that Colette and Zelos were the last two chosen, gaining the titles "Chosen of Regeneration" and "Chosen of Tethe'ala" for them to stand out.  Naturally, Lloyd has ascended to "Super Special Awesome Hero!" status here.

DQ4: Psaro's final form just kicked my ass. Gonna grind for a bit to get Insulatle, Kazing (hate reviving with Zing so much) and Omniheal, and switch over from Liquid Metal Armor to Dragon gear. Hopefully that'll be enough.

You didn't get Kazing before endgame? That's odd, did you not have any luck with metal babble hunting? (There are king metals right before the final save point in that tower, go smite em.)

Dragon Gear's worthless unless you're using Ragnar. Kiryl can't use it and has other methods to resist fire/ice, Solo has the Zenthian gear. Dispel does help against Psaro's final form, since you can sap him after that.

I am in fact still using Ragnar; Liquid Metal Sword's my second-best damage behind a heavily STR-boosted Alena. And I've only run into one liquid metal slime, so there you go.

That's poor luck. You should have had Omniheal/Kazing for the final. You'll want to use a mage for the skillset most likely, though Borya durability is crap. It's worth it for the defense busting. IIRC his fifth form can be confused as well.

I just strength twinked Kiryl for a physical. He can break 100+ STR at endgame with tweaking, so his physical is acceptable. I always want a mage skillset against the bosses.

Man, I really love how much Dark Hunters have improved from the first EO. Especially now they get Bait/Magibait accessible from both weapons instead of just the Sword in EO1, it really makes certain bosses a piece of cake. You really tempt me to do an all DH runthrough.

Rogue Galaxy - Vacation

Went through the newly opened area on Juraika. Apparently the game agreed with my choice of it for first as the new enemies were all on the consecutively next pages from where I was up to.

For a place which the Burkaquans are supposedly forbidden from going, there certainly were a few of them in there -_- Rosa pulled sort of the same thing earlier with the new area there, but at least they weren't forbidden from entering it, they just nattered on about how dangerous it was and how no-one should go there (including several of the people within the area). Anyway, there were too many enemies where jumping was required, be it jumping on them or just jumping so as to attack their vulnerable upper halves instead of their invulnerable lower, so it wasn't strictly my cup of tea. Why exactly does it seem like magic has no effect on the tall ones anyway?

Nice surprise waiting at the end of the castle; activating all the the transporters on a planet fills in any unopened chests on the planet on your map. Unfortunately, or not depending on how you look at it, the only chests I hadn't opened on Juraika were a couple in the castle (which was a pain to explore) and one in an earlier location with a Sun Lock I can't open yet. I now find myself wondering whether opening all the chests on a planet does anything for you.

Speaking of random playerfriendliness, I have been seeing people on 1 hit point an inordinately high amount of the time compared to other low hit point amounts, which leads me to wonder whether the game is set up to stop you at 1 hit point and then kill you on the next hit. That's pretty awesome for them to have included that as an inherent mechanic if so.

Lost my first fight against the boss of that area due to lightning hax and all three party members being in close proximity. That was ensured to not happen again the next time.

Subsequently went back to see MIO as I had filled out sufficient of the Froglog for it to be considered complete so as to see if this did anything for me. It got Zegram a new outfit, which is a decent enough prize I suppose. Then went off to the Rose Nebula for the major bounty on Hammerhead, who turned out to be a cakewalk, which was enough points to get to Hunter Rank 10. Enheartened by that bounty's easiness compared to Paul the Ripper, went back to Juraika for Beast Leone's bounty. That was a much better battle. Once its crystal shattered and allowed the entirity of its body to be attacked it went pretty smoothly, and it was nothing like Paul-level, but far and beyond Hammerhead. It also gave off a ludicrous amount of points which kicked me straight up to Hunter Rank 8.

Currently I have gone over to the newly available Water Planet where things seem to be Going Down. My current intentions are to resolve the problems here before continuing on to Zerard to get the Triforce of Scales.

And the damage isn't really there. Despite all the support hype, I'm thinking of replacing mine with a Gunner or Ronin for more raw damage.

Out of those two, I'd suggest the Gunner for in-game use.  They can sit in the back and deal their damage while the Ronin has to sit in the front (and Ronins aren't incredibly durable outside evasion, which they DO have a lot of, to be fair).  Gunners also get some nice support stuff (Medishot, elemental shots, binds) and are better with basic physicals due to 2-Hit and Weakshot.  And Haltshot is good to stop FOEs from moving for awhile, which comes in handy every once in awhile.

Ronins do have the better damage, but their support is a bit lacking.  They have good evasion, but they're frail outside of that.  I think Ronins are faster too (not that it's hard to be faster than a Gunner).  Their force is weaker, but I doubt you care much about that.

I'll stop ranting now.

Brave Story: New Traveler - Just beat up some emo wizard and then shit hit the fan.  Looks like I'm almost at the end!

Fairly simple and nonspecial game, but somehow fun anyway.  Looks to be really short too, which I think helps a lot in this case.

DQ4DS - Yep. I wasn't very eager to start this game but I did buy it a while back (more accurately, got it along with a car-audio adaptor when I traded in ToS2) so I figured I probably should.

Almost as soon as I started playing it, though, I got into it a lot. I'm reminded why I liked the NES game despite its flaws. Compared to say, Dragon Quest 8, it plays much more quickly, and with greater challenge, and with more thought in battles (partly owing to the fact that spells like Buff are ACTUALLY USEFUL). Gameplaywise it isn't going to break any records but it is solid at least. Rest of the experience is pretty forgettable, although the DS upgrade has done good things for the game's aesthetic (music is considerably improved, in particular, and the accents give the game infinitely more character). To some extent it piggybacks on the things DQ8 did well, although it lacks the storyline goodness and the wonderful world map. In exchange, we get the aforementioned better gameplay and the chapter system, which is always cool. Of course, my opinion of the game may dip a bit in Chapter 5, which it did on the first playthrough.

So far I'm in Chapter 2, clearing out the Vrenor dungeon. I actually lost to Psaro's Pawn once, who I kinda remember stomping in the NES version; was not expecting the Winky to pull out desperate attacks. :( Otherwise Ragnar's chapter was a cake, a good intro. Healie to the rescue! Healie is also a worse dueller than I remembered, but uh, SPEED AND ELEMENTAL RESISTANCE HYPE?!? Alena's chapter is harder so far... Master Kung was pretty badass but that was unchanged (I get the feeling the game wants you to grind a bit before facing him so you have Sap, but fuck that), waiting him to run out of MP on Heal is kinda painful. The Vrenor dungeon has solid enemies.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

DQ4: Beat the main game. The new spells helped (especially Kazing), but the main factor was the AI roulette coming up in my favor. No ice breath, and less fire breath. The final form fell pretty easily - only one revive after he reached that stage.

Then I tried the bonus dungeon, and it didn't go quite so well. Foo Yung and Chow Mein are bastards.

I'd recommend giving Alena the Sands of Time for the Foo Yung/Chow Mein fight. She's pretty much guaranteed to go before them and is unlikely to go down in one round, so you can reset if they use their best attacks and pummel you on the first turn.

Putting Meena in to cast Insulate turn 1 and then swapping her out was really helpful for me, but she's especially liable to go down from one bad round of offense so you're really want the Sands of Time if you try this.

Kabuff shuts down.. not all of the offense, but enough. The fight's good at keeping you on the defensive until you get some levels.  Insulate's not a bad idea either.

The elemental offense wasn't as much of a problem as Fuddle and the boulder throw. Which isn't to say that three-digit fire damage is pleasant, but it didn't happen that often. I'm betting L35-37 is just too low there.
