It isn't that "Oh wow this is totally blowing me away!" Snow.  It was "well they got Juli stuff pretty right and Jin is kind of generic, but isn't total absolute unending fail like all the other characters.  Ziggy is pretty neat!  Maybe this could be alright"  instead it was just bad.

Well, I can get that. The meat of it is so... so... um... yeah. I sorta figured out that the good stuff was lapse-like in XS1, and XS2 wasn't much different. But... yeah. If only they didn't take themselves so seriously, and if the plot wasn't so ambitious... and, well, if KOS-MOS and Shion weren't written to be fucking fanservice machines instead of actual characters, that might've worked better. Christ, screw you, XS writer hormones.

To be more technical, Shion is meant to be serious and was written to be serious, but they have to match her up with the fan service bot by force, hoping it can be both serious and fan service.... which only causes disasters.

They would have had to completely eliminate Shion's relevance to the main plot, because her serious plot sucks or isn't there for pretty much the entire series. Making her into fanservice with no attempt at depth would have been an improvement, even if it doesn't change how bad the main story of KOS was.

The majority of Shion's failures stem from the writers loving her too much, as far as I can tell. I won't debate that more or less nothing short of a miracle could save the Febronia threads, but it's... just very bothersome how Shion is gushed over and treated and seen as a great human being when she makes egregious displays of immaturity, self-righteousness, selfishness and general lack of common sense. She would work a lot better writing-wise were she displayed as the repressed, messed up and unsympathetic person she really is. Making her -actually competent at what she does in Vector- instead of not knowing the basic functioning of black boxes wouldn't hurt, either.

Pretty much. She shows flashes of not being completely incompetent on a personal level in XS3, but those don't last long. The only real strong emotion she ever shows is anger or bitterness, along with a complete lack of understanding about people in spite of her grandstanding to Virgil in XS1 about the rights of Realians or her XS2 idiocy with Cecile and Cathe.

I've replayed most of XS1 at one point or the other, and I can't remember anything Shion did in the game besides fail miserably at arguing with Virgil and cooking Curry. She was barely a main character in XS1, Jr had far more impact.  Her actual personality outside of said failures is nil. Come to think of it she didn't really interact with the party in XS2 much either.

Yeah to get the positive reaction to XS2 you have to remember that XS3 really didn't exist which is hard to do with how fucking horrible it is.  By the end of XS2 you have some interesting possible plot threads, finally decent freaking gameplay and hey they are actually doing something with the characters that matter in the plot.  XS1 is pretty much KOS-MOS IS MYSTARIOUS.  XS2 is pretty much Junior plot.  XS3 is KOS-MOS AND SHION ARE MYSTAROUS junior plot what junior plot? 9ohbtweveryoneisjesus0.    Junior plot is pretty much the best of the characters that actually gets shit written about him.  So yeah, coming off of that, XS3 was something I was really looking forward to.  Then they failed endlessly.

Agreement that Jr. plot is the best Xenosaga has to offer. Apparently, liking XS2 best of the trilogy is considered odd in some circles. Wut.

My sisters got me playing some Maple Story when I'm not being lazy doing something else while failing to find a job. Go me. My EPIC Level 18 Warrior, BartreBrave, is running around smashing things with an axe, but leveling up is slow, and I'm stuck at a level where I'm just a little too weak to do the next set of big quests (need more dex to actually hit things), so... slooow.

WA4 - Loli schoolgirl robo twins beat. WA4 treats its villains a bit... differently... from most of the franchise. As in, you fight a lot of them once and they're gone, as opposed to the three or four times you fight some other WA villains. Jeremy, of course, is coming back later, but the villains aren't as much fun when they're one and done. I actually miss the Sentinels. Raquel and Arnaud are pretty cool at least, and Raquel smashes things pretty badly.

Now playing Yoshi's Island DS.  I haven't been this angry at a game in a while.

Geeeeet used to it. Or ditch it and play another game.

Persona 3:

Been playing on this an insane amount.

First, played 8 hours of the original, and got 6/6/4 social stats.

Then, imported to Fes.

Then, played 60 hours and got halfway through the game.

I play this game slow. (And leave the game on a lot, that's probably closer to 50.)

General thoughts...

Gameplay is pretty strange. The entire game is designed to be able to be handled by your main, it feels like, but to be very difficult/strategy intensive to do this way, and then your teammates are there to make it possible to do without this. Basically your main usually has defensive options for anything. Ever. Offense too, but that matters less for this.

The dynamic reminds me of KH most strongly, which is pretty weird. (Your teammates, however, are more effective than KH's.) It's neat, and the AI thing is explicable this way. Just odd. Within this, it's done quite well, heavy emphasis on weakness hitting with a scan command that is essentially FFX Sensor with a downside that is arguably less than taking up one weapon slot(and that ultimately ends up giving as much info as FFX Scan.).

Doesn't work on bosses but they all have savepoints instantly before them, so it doesn't really feel too bad. (Still should work on bosses.)

Elemental weakness on the ally side, due to the system, tends to be less of a deal than it does on the enemy side, to boot; Enemies can't All Out Attack I think, and I'm not sure how they'd ever manage to even if they could unless you were dead anyways, rendering that moot.

IDing your main got rendered somewhat reasonable by a (rare) item that revives your main and only your main on death from ID, in addition to the usual resists to ID. I'll admit, they'd have done better to ditch the main-dead-is-game-over mechanic but as I said, your main is what the game's focused around, so it works conceptually.

The plot's...better than I expected, in that it's often entertaining, not very serious and pretty fluffy with a serious main plot that is sorta there occasionally and not hurting anything. SLinks aren't really tacky, and are highly silly in general. Not a deep plot, and if you don't like anime tropes and such, you probably should flee screaming.

Overall, I really like it so far. Definitely picking up P4.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone, though. The base ideas are weird, and definitely not for everyone. Like BoF5, but less extreme and better done overall. (Not that you can compare them as games, just as compared to their goals. BoF5's plot could have been way better within it's goals. <_<)

I like that. You fight them once and you kill them because if someone tries to kill you, you try to kill them right back. WA4 didn't fuck around with killing people. It did it all the time.

Just beat map 10.  7 skill points gathered.

So many pilots!!!

I figured Isamu's Valkyrie was an upgrade for Max, so I switched them. Max is the only fighter pilot from Macross I care to use.

Let's see...I was using Amuro, Kamille, Judeau, Puru, Char, Trowa, Heero, Zechs, Masaki, Yang, Kou, and some other stragglers. Like I said, tons of pilots, not enough spaces or maps to use them all right now.

Neo Granzon was fun, but let's see where this path takes me. Right now I don't give a damn about any of these new people. I miss my old gang.

You'll get 'em back. More importantly, don't skimp on the Zeta Gundam, it's the best real in the game once it gets its upgrade. Kamille is a fine enough pilot for it, too. Judau sorta sucks and so does the ZZ Gundam, Quattro is a great pilot (I slap him in the GP-03 Dendrobium, good stuff), Purus are solid pilots, Amuro is one of the best Gundam pilots in the game. Heero is good, but needs EN twinking to work better, Zechs is Heero - sorta. Trowa, I found disappointing: no Focus on a Real pilot is eh, and his evade isn't even that good at base. No Soul either. On the Xabungle path, you'll learn to solo stages with the Great Mazinger, though. Learn to love it.

Pump the Great's armor and it will be nigh-invincible. Makes the next bit of the game a lot easier.

AG: Stage 24 finished. Got GDX, and got to try out the G-Bits for a short while in the Sea of Lorelei stage. They are sick and wrong.

Also, Judeau isn't too bad if you get the Full Armor parts for ZZ (two MAPs, everything but Hi-Mega Launcher and Hyper Beam Saber runs on ammo that's reasonably plentiful, really nice stats), but that requires either Easy mode (which is fail) or save hacking, so eh.

Eh, the YF-21 is probably a much better choice for the original Macross pilots given that it has more ranged weapons.  The Melee stat on the Macross bunch is made of fail and loss, and the YF-19 matches this by having very limited ranged attacks, focusing almost exclusively on punching things at range 1.

Then again, given that I've never seen original Macross and Macross Plus is what got me into anime, I'm a fan of Isamu and Guld regardless and love the fact that the YF-19 and 21 are so good.

There's an area where you can run into late-game monsters early on that AAA's referencing. Killable by fire, drop tons of EXP/money.

Where it is, I forget.
