Hey, you're the one that wanted to play on Expert.
now that said, you do get more accessory slots as you level up, which tends to be a lot more meaningful than the minor equip upgrades.  The rate you get them varies, as I recall, on your initial sword/shield/staff choice, but I forget the levels involved.  Assuming you didn't give up Shield though you should get them at semi-regular intervals.

The third fighting that I threw my money into ended up being the most fun, though it has the most generic look to it. It's called BlueBlaze or BlazBlue or something and it's a 2D fighter that plays somewhere in between Marvel vs. Capcom and Guilty Gear. The controls were REALLY tight and it was a fast-paced bit of fun. It took all of the things I liked about 2D fighters and cut out the bullshit. Character designs were really pretty, too.

This is Arc System Works new game, because the rights for Guilty Gear are in Legal limbo. Think of it as Guilty Gear X3.

It's not lame because it'll make the game harder (the main thing I need to do here is dodge-roll more anyway), more that three points of defense is only somewhat noticeable at this point. By endgame I can't imagine how underwhelming a change it'll be.

By the time you get MP Charge or MP Rage or whichever it was and Second Chance, you won't even be noticing that you're low on defense.  There'll only be 1 HP, and not at 1 HP.

BvS:  Planning on a Sannin Run soon with Wil.  Jack has nothing new to do this season, so I've been working on getting Drunken Fist and 1M Ryo on him, with the occasional Kaiju beatdown.  Terri3 is fun.  The still painful part is that Irwin still lacks the Snake and Mantis Runic equipment...  And I have a spare Snake on Wil, while I have multiple Mantis runes on my other characters.

Disgaea 2:  Still haven't moved the plot forward at all.  Everyone's nearly level 30, currently going after an Adell Lover that spawned, Rozalin still has her Rozalin Lover I subdued a long time ago, there's a Tink Lover I can't seem to touch (because of it spawning on a Treasure Map), and I still need to go after a Healer Lover.  I'm having tons of fun.

Eternal Sonata: 20 hours and going.  I've decided to not play anything else until I beat ES.

Just.. uh... be wary of the plot. It can cause spasms of rage. Especially towards the end.

@Fnorder: Oh? It's by the Guilty Gear team? That explains the amazing character designs. Actually, I think I prefer the BlazeBlue designs to the GG ones.
How did they end up in Legal Limbo, by the way? I was still holding out for a GG anime.

Naturally, not five minutes after I wrote that, an enemy in Agrabah dropped a Firaga Chain. It's not bad!

Are you sure? With Sammy out of picture, there is no other company involved with GG now but Arc System itself.

What about Sega though Niu? Maybe you can figure something out that we have missed.

Also got a chance to play Blazblue last night. I wish I could play it more :<

Megaman X Command Mission - Finished a couple of days ago.  Doom Cinnamon rules all, etc.  Epsilon gets credit for running me out of Sub Tanks.  Final was a joke though.

Decent game.  Not great, but it's got solid gameplay and pretty neat twinking options.

Star Ocean - Got back to this and finished.  Perisie was my best damage dealer at endgame.  Ratix/Marvel were good enough to smash from midgame until then, and still awesome at endgame.  Asmodeus got stunned on the first attack and was killed before he recoered.  Jie Revorse actually did stuff like twice but still got spammed to death.  Second form got Perisie 9999 spammed to death and lasted like twenty seconds.

Basically, the game is easy as hell.  Overall, it's pretty bad, but it's so easy that it's pretty painless after a point, which keeps it from being down there with the real crap like Phantasy Star.

And the transition from Asmodeus and the Jie Revorse dungeon is probably the worst thing ever.  Mostly because IT DOESN'T HAVE ONE.

After Sega take over Sammy, the production plant has moved into Arc System's internal. So I don't think Sega has anything to do with it now.

From this interview with Arc: (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3902/dodging_striking_winning_the_.php)

Interviewer: This is a tough question, I don't know if you can answer it, but there have been some rumors on the net about Guilty Gear and Sega getting the rights, which is why [Arc System Works' Dynasty Warriors-style action title] Guilty Gear 2: Overture didn't feature too many older characters -- and stuff that I don't really understand.  Though you might not be able to provide any answers...

Daisuke Ishiwatari: Right, I might not be able to provide answers there.

Interviewer: You know, rumors... on the Internet...

DI: Yeah, I can't really talk about it much... except to say that they're basically true. (laughs)

Sega can still have a say on individual old GG games and characters yes, but Arc System still owns the series. Sega can't stop Arc System from making new GG. Because Sega's right is limited to what Sammy originally had in the past.
But then, as far as I know, that is not the reason why BlazBlue came about. As despite there are problem with rights on old character, Daisuke planned to get those ready as he needs them for the next GG2 game. The real reason why Blazblue came about is because Daisuke is changing GG into a different genre of game, and he'll be focusing on the new GG from this point on. He contributed nothing but music to BlazBlue and the rest is done by other staffs.

Is there a website with comprehensive knowledge of fighting games out there? I've been googling, but I haven't really stumbled across one. Mainly, I want to find a site that covers development history and story continuity across serial games since I can easily find gameplay information for anything from gameFAQs. It'd be nice to find a site that would put pictures of the characters with all of the vital info, too, so I know who these people I'm reading about for the first time are.

After my little trip indulging in the arcade offerings of Japan, I'm really interested in getting back up-to-date with modern fighting games.

Also. Sengoku Basara. This game is wonderful crack.

I know there's a Street Fighter wiki I used for Street Fighter. I think your best bet is to look for each game series individually. There's always going to be at least one obsessed fan for a game that wants to show their e-peen off.

Wikipedia used to actually be pretty decent for most of the big fighting game series plot stuff and character info, then some fucker decided to make Wikipedia useless at the only thing it was fucking any good at (pop culture guide) and that they needed to hack the fuck out of everything in the name of concise entries (because room is a fucking issue in an online encyclopedia).  Now you are kind of forced to hope that some OCD fantards have put together a series specific Wiki that has more than 5 entries in it.  Fuck you Wikipedia in your never ending quest for absolute mediocrity.

Also wait what?  Shale why are you playing KH on Hard mode?  The game isn't worth that kind of effort.  Put it on easy, press X until things die and get it over with.  KH2 I can kind of see it if you give a fuck, but screw the first one.

Yeah, I know... as a result, all the good obsessed fansites disappeared because wikipedia had done a good job of getting it all in one place... and now that they've cut everything out, there's a big void of pop culture websites...

Yeah Wikipedia is now essentially a portal site to other people's shitty half finished websites about obscure series no one gives a shit about normally.  It is like the late 90's internet all over again with the tragic advantage of anonymity that you used to not have that had people having incredibly shit HTML associated with their names forever.

Wikia is the new Geocities.

I've never had issues with SF4 freezing. Maybe it's a PS3 port problem?

Djinn: Shoryuken.com is a great place for Street Fighter and other capcom games, Dustloop is good for Arc System Works[Guilty Gear, Blazblue] games.

SNK, you'd probably be looking at King of Fighters. I don't browse their fansites but Cyberfanatix seems like a decent place for KoF[mostly videos though].

Namco, SC community is a trainwreck so you're looking for Tekken Zaibatsu if you want stuff for that series.

Star ocean FD - Went into some random cave. Came out with two sets of very powerful equipment meaning everything in the main games going to explode.

Untold legends - Smacked my way through deathguard and killed the untouchable general that lived there. Currently in the desert trying to find a way to harm the false emporer/warlord/demon/Kings half brother/demon summoner.

Monster hunter - Killing things with a bow takes a unholy amount of time. Teaming up with a friend though made everything a lot more sane.

ROTK8 - Damn that Cao Cao and his cheating ways. I work my ass of to beat some minor powers while he in lightning speed grabs the whole north.
Me and Cao Cao have just began moving against each other by crushing some weak powers in the centre of the map. I overran Lu Bu with 150,000 troops while he easily crushed Dong Cheng. We both then attacked Kong Rong sharing out his land.

The troop numbers at the moment are roughly:

Cao Cao - 680,000
Me - 760,000
Gongsun Du - 33,000
Liu Biao - 263,000
Wu Yi - 181,000
Ma Teng 364,000

So I ain't doing too bad considering I started in the south :P

Bit of a late add, but we've pretty much hit on why I have a latent dislike/hate of Wikipedia. They've got immense amounts of potential with the resources and format they have... but in the drive to become more encyclopedia-like, they've practically abandoned most of it. It is okay to step outside of the annoying confines of what an encyclopedia is, Wikipedia! It's okay, really!

Well, that and what seems to be a monolithic worship/abuse of the rules system which scared me off from ever bothering with them.
* Taishyr goes to check if each Pokemon still has a unique entry despite 9/10ths of them having zero cultural significance.

Edit: Ha, nope, they changed it. Yay for small victories and stuff. Even though objectively to me, it's a loss... eh, still, that was one of the glaring "what" moments.
