Kingdom Hearts: Atlantica. Goofy and Donald's underwater costumes WILL HAUNT MY NIGHTMARES FOR YEARS TO COME.

On the gameplay side, Sora's slaughtering randoms with magic (8 MP with the key form I got from Merlin? Hell yes.), but bosses have required physical beatdowns for the most part. Tried the Pegasus Cup and got up to the boss fight, but couldn't do much there so I'm saving it for later. Platforming in Agrabah wasn't that bad...until I got to the cave of wonders, where I promptly saw what Grefter was talking about. Argh. Nice boss fight, though.

Overall, the game is clearly flawed but still damned enjoyable. The whole massive intercontinuity Disney crossover thing is pulled off shockingly well.

ToV-Completed! Final time was 35ish or so, levels were ~60.

It's a pretty solid game. Much shorter, obviously, without TotA's pacing issues. Battle system was standard Tales. AI was wonky at best (That's right, Estelle, run towards the nigh-unstaggerable boss and hit him for 500 damage instead of healing people near death's door), but other than that I have no complaints. Story was okay, but nothin to write home about. Yuri started as a decent main who gained significant coolness later. The rest of the cast isn't that great. Probably the most amusing thing was Rita being totally queer for Estelle. Karol's an obnoxious brat and Raven just won't fucking shut up about being older than everybody. Repede owns, but you already know that.

7/10 or so? Good but not great. TotA is a hard act to follow in fairness.

L4D-Blood Harvest beaten on Expert!!!! Just 5 achivements left to go.

Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

Since it came up in chat, I feel compelled to note that anybody who complains about combat in Atlantica is stupid, because every enemy there is OHKOed by Fira when Sora equips the magic-boosting gear automatically acquired in plot scenes up to that point.

The problem with Atlantica isn't the battles, really (battles being a problem in KH what). It's swimming, but even that is just a mild annoyance before you get used to it. Now, if they made KH2 Atlantica an actual world off -those- swimming mechanics, I'd be cursing like a sailor.

They're part and parcel of the same thing; without enemies, swimming is just "point Sora at exit/treasure clam, go there, remember which button is descend." He could control like a Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing truck and it wouldn't hurt anything.

Chrono Trigger DS: Suppose I ought to mention this.  Played up through the ocean palace.  Twin Golems kinda raped me (good 20 resets or so--my healing couldn't keep up with their damage so I needed to blitz one of them, survive the counterattack it uses on death, then struggle to get my party back up).

Haven't had too much trouble otherwise.  This is my first time playing CT.

You're thinking of the Golem fight preceeding that, which is pretty much exactly the same but there's only one of them.

The regular Golem is a hopeless fight. The Twins you're supposed to beat, although if you're underleveled or use physicals a lot they're probably the toughest boss in the game.

It's not a hopeless fight...

...It's just a "Heads I win Tails you lose" situation.  I'm pretty sure you can charm a stat tab of 'em, though.

EDIT:  Unless I'm thinking of a different set of circumstances.

Wait, physicals?  It was magic I avoided using against them because then they start spamming MT back at me and that's just death.

It's hopeless in the same way that the boss fight in the Ocean Palace is hopeless. You can win, but you're clearly not supposed to on your first run.

Edit: Magic involves MT, but can be walled with element reduction/absorbing and is weaker raw damage. Getting hit with Iron Orb spam leads to slaughter and there's no way to mitigate the damage.

You can also put them to sleep with Lucca, but it's a low probability.  Just don't use lightning (unless you've got white armor on) or physicals and you should be able to survive.

Wait what?  You guys are making golems harder than they are.  When you don't know their shit they are scary and you get in the situation Met was in.  Edit - This is a very reasonable position to be in your first time through the game.

You take 2 good characters and your healer.  Wait until everyone has their turns up, Use 2 good character's for damage, your healer (This is assuming that is Frog/Marle because using robot for healing = no) use Water/Ice 2 and just completely shut the bosses down.  They will do like 100 damage.  Just "Use magic" gets you stuck copping their Lightning move which is far from negligible.

Grefter's pretty much correct about the Golems. They certainly splattered me the first time I played the game, but his strategy is more or less perfect. Water/Fire counters are pretty weak, although you want to keep refreshing them every round, because IIRC if they don't switch their counters for a round or two they start using the badass version of Water/Fire (equal to Lightning). Shadow is even worse. Physicals are ST horror instead.

Of course you can own them with elemental mail as well, but a first-time player reaaally isn't likely to have that.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

KH: Finished Atlantica, beat Squall and Yuffie. Ursula 2 was a damned pain in the ass with how tricky she is to melee, and a couple of times she managed to kill me while I was facing her without actually doing anything that I could see. Awesome. Squall and Yuffie also took a couple of tries, but it was mainly about finally equipping Sonic Blade and getting the hang of the timing.

Persona 4: I finally found the info I needed to get into the Void Dungeon. Lulz at the video game sound, and the look of the shadow there. Endgame boss took me three tries before I beat him. First time, I went in immediately after getting there to just see what kind of attacks he had. I actually did fairly well, for nearly not having any damn magic left, or any cure fear or cure exhaustion items. The only reason he beat me was because he exhausted my main character on the one turn I didn't heal and then raped me with his spell attack.

Second time. Again, MC only death. Everyone else had full HP/SP. God damn. He was about two/three rounds from dying too. He put MC into fear, and after my turn passed again, used "Ghastly Wail" and OHKO'd him. I would've cured fear had I known that Ghastly Wail did that, but every time before that, the "Homunculus sacrificed itself" on all my feared characters and nothing happened. SO the first time I saw it work, it was on my MC. Instant game over. When he was almost dead. I was pissed.

Third time, The reverse happened. He feared everyone but my main and then killed them all with Ghastly Wail. I entered a 5 turn "MC uses Revival Balm on Yukiko, Yukiko heals MC with Diarama, Shadow attacks Yukiko, Shadow casts spell to damage everyone. Yukiko dies. Repeat." Eventually, his attack missed (Just happened to be with my last Revival Balm too), and I managed to revive Chie, who on her next turn revived Yosuke, who used a Soma to save the day. My god, I hate that shadow. He finally went down. I was so happy. Only took me about 1 hour 45 minutes to get through... >_>

BUT OMG!! THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I BEAT THE GAME!!! I'M SO HAPPY </sarcasm>

Yeah fucking right. He didn't do it, I can tell. He just wants credit for it to get attention because he fails epically at life. Plus its August in the game, My stats are still crappy, there's no possible way to have gotten 100% Social Links in that short of a time, I know I still get one more character from watching the intro alone, the guy is only in police custody and we haven't heard a ruling about him yet (It's like comic books. If you don't see their dead body, they're not dead), I don't go home to my parents in the game until April, and my friend was looking through my P4 artbook today (which I haven't gone through yet, because it warned of spoilers at the start) and asked me a question about "If they have yellow eyes, then they have a shadow form?" and showed me a picture of someone who hasn't been kidnapped yet >_>

Plus you guys all joked about endgame before :P

Anyways, moving on.

Unfortunately, I was hoping for a save point immediately afterwards the boss, but I had to go through a bunch of cut scenes. Which normally I have no problem with and love! But its 3 AM, my roommate is sleeping, and my sound is muted on the TV. So I had to creep up to my TV, sit in the chair beside the TV, and turn the volume up just a little so I could actually hear what was going on with the characters. Because Persona actually has good Voice Actors and the game just isn't the same with hearing  what they're saying, along with the expressions they make as well as seeing whats happening on screen. Plus it was the end of the game! I can't miss all those shenanigans! Wooo for being a night owl XP

WA XF- On the final act. Edna MUST die. A good villain you love to hate though. Charlton's final battle was amusing.
