Game Center CX: Arino no Chousenjou 2: I finished the Guardia Quest Saga challenges and I'm debating whether I should finish GQS first or move on to do the last few challenges which is just Super Demon Returns. I'll need to clear all the games for the #37 challenge clear anyway. I'm nearly finished with these games! ...In a game. Yeah. Guardia Quest Saga is surprisingly decent, improving on the previous GQ and despite being a DQ 1 ripoff it doesn't fail! I mean, you still open up menu to talk/examine/etc, but. Yeah.

SRWK: Finished stage 21, got the Crystal Heart upgrade. 21-1 was pure sloggy boring, but the second half made up for it by being a pure shooting gallery. Fun times. Unit-wise, SEED Destiny units are as broken as advertised, and I really wish I'd favorited Shin Jeeg because those two are exceptional boss-killers. 33,000 damage to the original boss with a Valored Triple Spin Storm, halfway through the game? Damn.

WoW: Mimiron and General Vezax down.  General wasn't that bad once you get the hang of things, though the trash leading up to him is pretty obnoxious.  Mimiron, on the other hand...  well, we found out the hard way that the parts will start repairing themselves once they dip below 100~150k or so, rather than at 0.  Makes downing all three parts at the same time a great deal more tense.

Only other major note I have is to keep that Pixie. It can mutate (and should pretty quickly), and it can be fused, but keep it around for a later event door.

Finally, his argument for Bluelike is something you may or may not see later, depending on your choices ingame. Rest assured, though, that he merits the position, even if he's just a Low Bluelike.

Also, one other note: did you choose Normal or Hard mode? If Hard, have fun getting money for the Magatamas...

SRWK - Up to episode 34.
Things are proceeding finely. We've hit the massive boss hp ramp up so I guess the endgame is approaching.


BoF5 - Starting IndustOne.
My irrational hatred of the cardboard cutout shops has only grown with the discovery that when there is a cutout of two people they are actually two different shops despite flavour text and intuition. On the other hand I also discovered that you can sell weapons inside the weapon locker which saves me a good deal of trouble, for all that you bizarrely need to take the weapon out of the locker then put it back in on the sell button.

Strangely I have a lot of money at the moment considering that most of the game so far I have been strapped for enough money for healing items let alone anything else. I would put it down to having somewhat more item space to lug around things to sell but I had far more money than I can remember having had so far before I even identified anything. Not sure how that happened.

Currently on 19% D-Counter which seems like it's far too much for this depth.

Second Press Turn is an NG+ feature, and only if you do the... sidequest I can't remember the name of. >_>  The gravestone bosses in the Labyrinth of Amala.

And I figured the reason he was Bluelike was because of the insane movepool you're able to have - it'd be like trying to rank Smeargle. (And I'm not 100% sure what in particular you were talking about. Only thing I can think of is Pierce, which is only mildly overpowered, IMO, in comparison to things like having Null Phys, all elements & instant death alongside Freikugel (sp?).

Yeah, I was referring to Masakados there, pretty much (mass stat boost+skillset+wall everything). And yeah, the Gravestone Time Attack challenge. The movepool... is impressive, but not stellar. (Pierce is a nasty touch, though.)

Of ranked people, he... probably charge-OHKOs Zophar, since apparently Fate Storm (according to the topic? I don't even remember seeing it in-game above 50% HP, so it'd make sense) is HP-triggered, Zophar can't stop him from pulling it off. Yuna wins with Aeons no prob, without it gets dicier (depends on what element you consider her Holy as, as well as if you see him as blocking FF Holy element. This has come up before, Yuna vs. Jenna Angel. I'll leave off there lest I reincarnate the argument). Aside from those two... depending on how you view SMT:N speed, the non-elemental nukemages (Johnny, Ryu2) give him fits. At worst he's a spoilable High Godlike, though, and I'd just move not to rank him on grounds of being pretty much a nightmare.

Well, we knocked off Razorscale really quick before moving on to try XT again. Unfortunately some of our top DPS (like our 7k+ Enh shaman) wasn't there, so it didn't go as well as before. But the reset comes tomorrow and then we'll knock off a couple more bosses and hopefully get a little better loots.

PWI:  Our faction with too many clerics merged with a faction with too many barbarians.  As a result, we can now tank damn near anything.  So nice to have a quest backlog with no bosses left.

SRWK: Finished today. Time for tl;dr thoughts.

The cast list was terrific; everything except Mazinger Z is in only its first or second appearance, meaning lots of fresh units and maps. Seeing all the new skills and systems was quite interesting, there's some nifty ideas in the game that I'd really like to see become SRW regulars.

Animation was quite nice, with even more dynamic kills than SRWW, and the music was terrific. Shangri-La, King Gainer Over, Can You Feel My Soul, Zips, Stormbringer, Yotaka no Yume, Engage!!! Godannar... the list just goes on and on. Quite a few of these I even preferred to the original version, as they replaced middling to bad vocals with some really nice synth.

The PU system was the main gameplay update, bringing squads to handhelds in simplified form. It worked well enough early on, with lots of reasons to pair units up and some to run it solo, but the balance just breaks down past midgame. The first problem is enemy support defense; almost every grunt comes paired later on, and having to deal with support defend on almost every single attack is really annoying. Chain attacks are your only form of ALLs, so you use them on almost everything with the necessary skill levels and not totally crappy C weapons. The second is that level 2/3 of chain attack is broken in this game, hitting 4-6 grunts for near-full power and only risking counterattacks from one of them.

Terrain ranks matter far more than they did previously, which is nice overall. The standard terrain modifiers are A rank and the S rank versions are late and really rare, which actually gives S terrains a lot of value. The only downside is that a lot of entire casts only have B in Space in this game, which means they can't hit or dodge worth a damn without a thruster module. With the final stage in space this limits your units somewhat; it's the only reason I didn't use Volkein Kai for instance.

Spirits and SP commands had some issues in this game. The universal SP costs that the (non-OG) handhelds use isn't as good as the pilot-specific ones in OG and PS2 games, but it was bearable in J and W at least because you had plenty of SP. Here... well, early on it's not too bad on combat units since you don't need (and don't have) Valor, so you can use all your SP on Focus, Alert/Invincible, and the occasional Strike, none of which is too pricy. Even when you do start picking up Valor (at an overpriced 45 SP) you rarely need more than one shot on a Jeeg or Strike Freedom to gun down a fleeing boss for a good while. Lategame though, bosses start getting pretty durable (while still being damaging), and the nobody besides the multi-pilot units has enough SP for more than one round of Valor+Alert/Invincible/Sense. Hell, even at endgame I had quite a few people who lacked the 90 SP needed for two uses of Valor alone, which was -_-.

Support spells are a problem from the start. For starters, you never really get a whole lot of them; for nearly half the game you have one shot of Bless off Sayaka, two shots of Cheer off Tsubaki and Lulu (who takes a few levels to get it), and nothing more. Had to feed Sayaka all my SP Up/Mental Focus parts for a long time to get her a second use of Bless. Lacus joins on the Destiny finale with both Bless and Cheer, and Tsubaki/Lulu get Bless eventually, and that's your entire supporting core for almost the entire game. That's annoyingly scarce, frankly. As for the more obscure stuff like Enable (90 SP), Hope (80 SP), Renew (60 SP), Disturbance (70 SP), etc., those are obscenely rare and extremely late if you even get them at all. Even if you do you'll only be able to use them once before running out of SP due to the 85-115 range endgame SP pools.

On the whole it feels like Banpresto took a lot of your options away in terms of using SP, which is just annoying if not gamebreaking game design. Early on I thought that extra deployment slots from the PU system would compensate just fine for neutered SP pools like they did in Z, but max SP just grows too slowly and you don't get enough pilots with non-combat spirits and then you don't even use partners all that much lategame, although babysitting a support unit was one of the few ways I did.

Challenge was a bit uneven, but overall it was easyish without being completely mindless so you had to pay some attention still. There were a few poorly designed maps but on the whole I thought Banpresto did a decent job here. The Stargazer map was one of the more interesting base defense missions I've seen in an SRW game.

Overall, the game feels somewhat unpolished, especially compared to W, but still solid. Xer's 7/10 feels like a fair score here.

Unit evaluations tomorrow, this post is getting rather long already and I need to stop procrastinating on some studying.

System Shock 2-About to head to the 4th deck. Boy, I bet Polito is going to be glad to see me!

Anyway, been blowing most of my modules on Tech stuff. Everything's level 3 except Research and Modify. Put some into various weapon skills (3 Standard for a shotgun? Really?), but haven't touched Psi at all.

Game's been....interesting. Feels sorta like a proto Deus Ex with the stat upgrade system, and it's interesting to notice Doom 3 basically completely ripped the game off with the PDA thing. The atmosphere's been fairly creepy, but not as scary as everybody keeps saying.

What kind of horrible future do we live in where a pistol breaks down completely after 5 shots?

Today, we dropped Ignis (who we had previously skipped), Kologarn, the Iron Council, Auriya and Freya. Good times, except for that everything that dropped was healadin plate, caster mail, and rogue leather. Got a set of T8 gloves for a warrior, though.

That is a future you should find the tone down weapon durability option for Trips.  I love the game, but SS2 weapon durability is a bit over the top.

Twil, you know how the plot unlocking works in BoF 5 right?  You finish the game and you get a certain rating based on how quick you were, how many saves you used and how much D-Count you have pretty much is it in a nutshell.  This is to unlock the game's plot remember, you are MEANT to replay BoF 5.  To get the best rating you need to pretty much not save the game.  So you have a hell of a long trip in front of you.

NTSC version has a quicksave option that deletes after you load it (like Roguelike kind of thing).  This makes that whole concept stop being fucking retarded.

That doesn't really seem like a great help as it means you have to finish the game on only one 'life'. I've already quit and reloaded twice >_>. Does vaguely explain the PAL temporary save though, which is the most worthless save ever as far as I can tell from the manual. Save the game and you can only load if you haven't turned the system off, and it deletes itself when it loads... so what exactly do they expect people to do between having saved and loaded? Unless it doesn't stop you from playing when you make the save, in which case I guess it has a tiny modicum of worth.

The manual says that some SOL things come into play even when using SOL Restore/Restart, though, not having to finish the game. Is it lying?



Actually having looked for it, I can't even find the temp save option. Manual lying or my ineptitude? Guess it doesn't really matter as I wasn't planning on using it anyway.

REplays are identical to SOL Restore, so you keep a shit load of stuff, effectively making it a New Game+.  Considering you're using End Game stuff with Party XP to start the game at level 20 instead of level 1 or something, you basically blitz the early parts, and are more prepared for late game stuff as a result.

Also, Ryu gets a new weapon on replays; the Dragon Blade specifically, which is basically his best weapon and obsoletes just about all other weapons barring Legend Blade, which has Great Smash (Instant Death), and slightly higher attack, so you get a big equip upgrade even then (you can get upgraded versions based on your D-ratio, so each Replay, you can get a superior version.)

Saveless Runs aren't too tough on replays as a result; I've done several in fact.  But the lack of Quicksaves makes it a bitch for obvious reasons.  The game's system was well balanced with that in mind, but I can't see myself beating BoF5 in one sitting, even on a speed run (forget the req you need for maximum D-Ratio points offhand, admittedly, but its still several hours.)

Died against Tantra and decided that since I was reasonably close to the beginning and was in no mood for redoing IndustOne I would SOL Restart to see what that was like. I do not believe this was the best choice I could have made.

Should have checked this thread out for updates before going through with it probably >_>
